  1. There is something to be said about building your own car. It's rewarding, expensive, time consuming and the feeling of accomplishment is awesome. Some people say they would never sell their Z, but life can have it's unexpected turns and you end up selling your car for much less, typically far less then you could imagine. To me now, it's not about not doing the work or the lack of enjoyment received by doing it, but the lack of money as a Husband, father and sole provider. Your young, so you don't have these issues. Currently though, times are very hard for people out there and deals can be had. The savings by spending more initially can far outway your wildest expectations in the end. I paid $3750 for my current Z. The original Z lover put over 16K into my car and many of those things I wouldn't have done. Take the time to look around, deals are out there.
  2. Hey Jeff, do you want me to pull what I might have off the wrecked 240z?

    loud exhaust ticket

I'd leave it the way it is w/ the muffler and show up. This was back in 94, but I had a cop literally jump in front of my car and flag me down. I got a ticket for No bumper, no turn signals and to loud of a muffler. I fixed the bumper and signals, but left the muffler alone, flowmaster also. The girl at the courthouse was like okay your fine. Now the difference may be in the size of your city. If your in a small town (sticks like you say) you may be better off replacing it.
  4. Please document your steps! From the first cut, to the last weld. I've got a crunched 73 i've been toying w/ fixing.
  5. I'm thinking it may not be related to EMI. It may be, but he's removed his wiring from the Alt and still getting spikes and replaced the plug wires to Magnacor w/ the same results. He's never had a problem until recently. I'm curious if removing the belt all together and not spinning the Alt will help at all, if EMI is suspect. Other than the coil and maybe the MSD box, what else is putting out high amounts of current on and off rapidly?
  6. I forgot to mention I pick through trash and have garage sales for additional side money. Recently scored a 5 Year old Sony 57" Projection TV. Turned blue when you turned it on. Little Google search and presto, good as new!
  7. Jeff read through this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_Interference "EMI or RFI may be broadly categorized into two types; narrowband and broadband. Narrowband interference usually arises from intentional transmissions such as radio and TV stations, pager transmitters, cell phones, etc. Broadband interference usually comes from incidental radio frequency emitters. These include electric power transmission lines, electric motors, thermostats, bug zappers, etc. Anywhere electrical power is being turned off and on rapidly is a potential source. My thought is, if it is happening now, maybe you've moved your plug wires around (bumped) and now they are causing the issue. When you cut the harness did you move anything else?
  8. www.zabasearch.com This one has worked great for me.
  9. I'd also being intersted to see the visit hits to this site for the last 6 months. I'd say it has been going down. I could be wrong but as someone who visits daily there "seems" to be less activity going on lately. I think will really see the truth of whos hurting when the forsale section is overwhelmed w/ things for sale.
  10. My project budget has declined mainly because my sales on ebay are down. My full time job money is consumed by my family and house. I had 6-9 months of living cash, but after 3 years of foolish spending I'm down to about 2 months.
  11. Damn, I new I should have searched first.... I found the info I was after.
  12. Curious to thoughts on this EMS. Is this similar to SDS? ---------------------------------------------------------- LT12SThe LT12S has six injector and six coil drivers, suited for controlling a six-cylinder and up-to a three-rotor rotary in 3D sequential injection and spark mode (up to 12 cyl and 6 rotor in batch/wastespark). Ecu can handle low or high impedence injectors. 3-bar and 45 psi options availible. Great for converting your MAF system to MAP based! LT12S uses stock ignitors and coils LT12S $1299.99 LT12S w/ X6 Ignition System $1499.99 http://www.microtechusa.com/computers.html
  13. I asked if it helped. His response: --------------------------------- thanks for asking.... to be honest they really do help. the amount of hits i get with pics vs without the pics is amazing. last time i did a study it was 8+ to 1. been doing it for several months now. the pics get the attention and i have made several new customers very happy with quality and service. thanks for looking and i appreciate the questions.....john
  14. LOL, yeah I did the same thing!
  15. I wonder if that really helps? I should try it w/my wife on a few auctions!
  16. 1 - 82 Turbo Parts car 1 - 81 stock 280zx. Paid to much and sold it for to little!
  17. Those are the 82, 83 Turbo 280zx wheels. Swastika's is what the slang is for them.
  18. If you want to waste 35.00 or so, put it on ebay w/ a $30,000 reserve. Then you will know true market value. This isn't 100% accurate but it will give you a very good idea. I'd also say you will chip in a couple hunderd $$ for shipping. It will increase buyers incentive to bid / purchase. If it sells for $30K and you get paid, laugh all the way to the bank! Are you trying to flip it? The car looks very nice. What did you end up getting it for?
  19. You didn't mention rust or interior issues? Paint looks good from the pic? Assuming that is all good, i'd wager to say 2-4 at the most in this economy. A V8 conversion can both help and hurt depending on the purchaser, especially w/ the issues. What other aftermarket parts or upgrades does it have. Good luck on the sale.
  20. John, is this dead in the water now????
  21. With AGE comes wisdom! I'll take it all day long!
  22. Jeff I'm having a hard time beliveing plugs or wires are your problem. You driven to DNI and back w/out any problems, driven around town a bunch and your just now starting to have problems. New plugs and plug wires just sounds to easy to me ...
