  1. Sry I didnt know if it was a Gm, being in a pontiac. I dont think im trying for over 500. for now it would be stock. But just wanted to know what people think about it. I have a 85 300zx with no motor or trans in it, and I can get this for cheap so ive just been thinking why would I want 3 Zs with all the same motor(vg30/33) How strong is the 403 stock?
  2. I find it easier to just pull the motor with trans out to work on the heads or clutch or whatever... all it is is the harness, alt wires, rad and coolant hoses, exhaust(if you have it), and 6 bolts. I cant stand putting a motor in with the transmission still in(might be different if I had concrete )
  3. My friends got a 79 trans am with a 403/6.6L with an auto trans. he said he would sell it to me for 300-400 bucks, says it runs. its like this one, the bandit ones I believe, it doesnt have the stock rims though.... its in rough rough rough rough shape body wise but its like this one http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3012887 Are these good motors to build, I have read that with 350heads on them its makes 9compression which is pretty good. Are parts to rebuild them pretty cheap, I know v8 are fairly cheap to rebuild compared to a import motor. Thinking about putting this in my 280z or 300zx if its worth it.
  4. Is there any where that says that the vg33 is a thicker casting than a vg30, my friend is telling me that when a vg30 bored out to a 3.3 has the same wall thickness as a vg33. Im not trying to prove him wrong im just trying to get some actually factual measurements of wall thicknesses when a vg30 is bored to a 3.3 and a stock vg33 wall thickness.
  5. looks awesome, love those kind of dashes.
  6. everything looks top notch , and no dash pictures?
  7. thanks, its the same as the thing on the valve cover basicly(just takes the evaped oil back into the intake...)? So I can just run a pipe from that to a breather? I dont want it going back into the intake manifold. If I can use a breather on it, does it matter if the breather is low or higher than the pcv tube? These might seem like stupid questions but im venturing into uncharted territory with the l28( this is the second kind of motor ive ever worked on, im like a VG30 maniac LOL)
  8. I have no idea what I connect this too, or what its for, can it be blocked off. give me some info on it. I looked through my fsm and didnt see a thing about it. does it connect to the bottom of the intake manifold? Its one of the last thing I have left to hook up on the 280(rubber hosing wise, besides injectors). btw 78 motor, 81 turbo parts, 85 ecu and wiring.
  9. Man Id like to see that car run down the drag strip one day. also nice to see the stock r200 under it still. I saw a 240z running 4.90s in the 8th(had a HUGE v8 in it) but it had a ford 9inch. You race at Carolina Dragway?
  10. Are there any parts I can use off of the 200sx on my 280z? like suspension and breaks wise?
  11. What rear bumper is that? here is my 76 junk wagon LOL, it needs the fuel injectors put back in, it needs floor pans LOL, a paint job, misc water and vacuum lines, a mbc, alt and water pump belt, a starter, all the intake hoses from air filter to turbo to TB, and it needs all the wiring done. I havnt worked on it in a while(as you can see from the spider web). so far I have 300 dollars into it.
  12. there is this one guy in my town, he is so anoying. he talks to me about his twin turbo 280zx(I ask him if its stock, he says yes) that has 600 hp(meanwhile I never see it, and he drives a crappy accord). then asks if mine is a 6cylinder, I say yea, hes like inline 6, I say no v6, he said they are all the same LOL. And surprisingly in my town people know what 280zs and all those are. but when im talking about 240zs people think im talking about sxs and all the car guys around here hate the 350z, its all about the hondas here
  13. the raised lip things on the turbo bolts you just bend down but im sure you figured this out.
  14. I cant remember which end I did first on the EGR... maybe I just cut it, I cant remember, its blocked off now.
  15. what state you in? trying to replace stock turbo? should need a 14mm wrench, flat head screw drive, downpipe bolts might be 17mm or 14mm, I think oil line is a 16mm these steps might not be in the right order pull off intake piping that is connected to turbo pull off downpipe(exhaust), 3 bolts Undo EGR tube, tube that is connected to intake and turbo exhaust elbow. probably use a crescent wrench undo Oil line undo oil drain line on the oil pan, hose clamp unbolt turbo from exhaust manifold, 4 bolts I am not sure if you need to take the intake manifold off... if you can get to the bolts you don't need to. AND I am not an expert on this so you might have to take the exhaust manifold off, I havnt tried to take the turbo off with the exhaust manifold on, never had to... Personally messing with the intake and exhaust manifold on the l28 is a pain, I think.
  16. cool!!! love the videos in the earlier post!!!! My old 300zx passed 260,000 not too long ago, Im surprised the stock T5 trans is holding up good. but I dont autoX my car LOL.
  17. I asked the same thing on z31performance.com and they told me this... and I have yet to find any others... I have a h1c that needs a backing plate, compressor and housing(got it for 3 dollars). and it all comes in a kit but im broke so LOL. http://frontpro.com/cu.htm
  18. Yea when they said no trans, I was wondering about rpms...
  19. just watched their 8 minute video, some super cool stuff. But i wonder what that would cost someone, I would imagen its more of manufacturers that are going to make a product with their engine. http://www.cyclonepower.com/video.html
  20. I like Nistune, I already have a chiped ecu which I will be able to use in my 300zx and s30, which is why im going with the vg30et(or 33, found one for 200 might be picking it up!). I just like the VG its reliable, cheap, some after market parts out there, but you don't need much for power. Just custom sheet metal intake(or gutted), and your pretty much set. And I would imagen it wouldn't be hard to wire up a vg30 in a s30(people put z31 ecus in them). Plus I like the idea of V motors in the s30, it leaves a lot of room left, I like the l28 but not a fan of how much room it takes up and all that wasted room on the passenger side. And its Nissan. I personally wouldn't touch any other Nissan motors with a stick if the vg30 can be used. But that is just me and my opinion, I am sure you will pick whats best for you. I still like the SR out of your list.
  21. 300rwhp reliable, vg30 or vg33 <<<<< but out of your list... I like the sr20, light, powerful, leaves lot of room in the engine bay and makes for a good CoG, although I think 350-450 can be done for cheaper.
  22. a vg33 mustang would be cool, I want to put a nissan v6 in an El Camino... not a fan of v8s LOLL the stock 300zx z31 manifold sucks compared to pathfinder, and maxima intakes. I dont know what injectors or lower intake your going to run(dont know if you want to keep stock lower from pathy, I dont know anything about them)... but I hope to get a vg30 or a 33 if I can find one for the right price... I already have a 2wd pathy trans for it(same a TT trans internally). I think the vg33 lower intake manifold has those weird injectors so thats why im going to use the vg30 one. if I get a vg33. but im going to use a 300zx lower intake manifold, with a older maxima intake like a 1988 one, these maxima intakes are said to be able to support 450hp on vg30. Also I dont know if vg33 heads are thicker casting than the 300zx heads. but older maxima heads(non W-series) are thicker casting and can be ported out more, I might use that as well if vg33 heads are same as vg30 heads, I know vg33 heads have thicker studs on exhaust. more info on the v6 can be found here www.jasonbutts.com
  23. It is easy to install on 87+ ecu, its little more tricky on 84-86 ecus... I would say its easy to tune on, my friend jason tuned his own car which had a t3/4 and 420cc injectors with no prior tuning experience... im not sure if its a company or more or less one guy... I only talked to one dude, and he was easy to work with. I dont have the software I didnt have enough money, I chiped my ecu and let my friend jason tune it for me but he moved so I need to buy it now. it takes like 2 weeks to ship to US as far as I know there is no demo, but you can download the software for free but you need a key to use it, like a cd key... I like nistune, if you have a lot of vehicles with the vg or any other nissan just buy the one software and chip all of them and go from there... im going to run nistune on my s30.
  24. Thanks. but when I got my s30 it had nothing in it, no engine or trans, and I got a whole engine, trans, and radiator from a friend for 100 bucks. the starter he had just need wires soldered back on but he threw it away because he is going to do v8 swap... im just ordering one from carpart for 35... I think its a older one, its on a 77, and I dont think its a gear reduction, is that bad or not reliable?
