  1. Does any one have pictures of the 69-76 or 77 style hood with the later style zx turbo scoops? I have 2 turbo scoops(left and right) and was wondering if its worth while to take the time to draw everything out and cut, to put them on my hood. I might just try to find a 78 hood.
  2. I am just trying to get the stock harness back to original condition, then I am going to start to do the 300zx maf and turbo ecu swap. it has 300zx turbo injectors(260cc, I believe stock turbo 280 injectors are 270cc, still have them but the plastic is all broken). my 300zx has nistune, I want to use the 300zx ecu because it has a maf and not a afm, and I can use nistune on both if I want. but I have 2 spare turbo ecus sitting in my room. I already did the z31 CAS and what not into the 83 turbo dizzy. I was going to swap in the whole z31 harness but I dont know what im doing with wires... so I find it might be easiest to just copy junkyard cars with uncut wiring and follow the fsm to get mine back to stock(uncut condition)
  3. How hard are they to change, I tried pulling a harness out of a 280zx and I found no way of doing it without cutting it?
  4. Well the injector harness is all white except for like one blue wire, maybe they are all the same, I will look through my other harnesses(I have 2 from 80+ models) and I will read some more on the fsms, I think I found some info about the wiring in the fsm. Thanks.
  5. I think this is where this needs to be posted... Any help is always appreciated, I want this thing running and im going to finally tackle the wiring harness. looks like all that needs to be hooked up is alt, starter, maf, injectors, chts, am I missing something? The guy I got my z from for 75 bucks for some reason pulled the motor out and lets just say he did not like to unhook connectors so they are cut or ripped, who knows. I was planning on using a 300zx harness but couldnt figure out how to take it out without cutting it so. 1. Any way, the stock engine harness after the maf wire is cut, I have 2 harnesses out of later 280zxs but I dont know how to wire it up, they are all white,. does it matter if the injectors wires are mismatched, like 1 is connected to 3 and all that. or do I need to follow each wire back to the ecu and then wire it up to the correct injector(which I do not want to do) Unless there is a easy way, I think the wires said 104 on them? And the 280zx engine injector harness is all different colors, not just white. 2. Does any one know what this went/goes too? I was thinking the distributor. 3. What does this go too, its a long cable, It is coming out of the fire wall under the clutch or brake resirvoirs under the little pop up things. 4. This is just a mess, can I get a wiring diagram for this, I believe its the altenator/starter? I have a 1982 280 fsm but cant find anything. maybe someone can point me into the right direction. I also looked in this and found nothing http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/280z/1976/ more of the alt harness
  6. Doing the 300zx ecu swap is fairly easy(for the l28), and if you do that for the l28 I dont see why it wouldnt work for the 300zx, if you swap over the connectors, but I could be wrong. and a z32 trans pretty much bolts up to stock mounts( and can be made to work on a vg30e fairly easy). and if you can make your own motor mounts then all you would need is a custom driveshaft.
  7. nah the 280 is getting the vg33 turbo, already have turbo parts for it, bout to pick up a 33 soon, and I have a 2wd pathy trans. All I need is to make the mounts, custom drive shaft, and I need a turbo relocation pipe, and I think I need to notch out the frame rail for the altenator in the engine bay in the 280z. Ill probably remove the stock hood latch, and get hood pins(dont know, I think hood pins only look good on some cars), I want this thing all the way back in the car for 50/50 weight dist. for the truck, I just want a driveable truck with decent power, my friend has a stock nissan 720 with the z24 and its sooooo slow. I think a vg30 will bring it too life. But I dont want a inline4 unless its a sr20 and id rather have the vh45 v8 sound(and power), if I spend over 1000. a vg30 would be cheapest for me since I have one and i have tons of spare parts for them. What size carb would be good on a 3liter v6? 300-400cfm? I was thinking of trying a stock sbc350 carb. Thats about as off subject as someone can get on here... Edit, it seems that you need a Saudi Arabian dist from a carb nissan truck for the vacuum advance to run carb on a vg30... so im going to attempt to go efi with a harness from the junkyard, I still have a 1985 na ecu so...
  8. I would not even know how you would go about keeping the vvt without the ecu(assuming its controlled by the ecu). I just want to throw it in a 84 datsun truck fairly quick, nothing to be a dragcar, just the usual burnout, something to move engines around and to be fun. looks like the hardest part is the manifold(unless someone makes one). I guess this is kind of a waste of time, I guess Ill just go efi or not vh45, and just go with my first idea, which was a vg30i. I just dont want the z24 motor. I just love the sound of the vh45.
  9. I don't think there are any manifolds to carburate a vh45, but could you get it to run without the ecu?... I don't know if it would be possible with the stock ignition, I know you can do it on a vg30 because it has a distributor, but I think the vh does not. I was reading this thread, and someone on here talked about a dist. block off plate( It is the post at the very top ). And apparently some people do not like the idea of a carburated vh45, But thats fine I do not like the idea of a carburated l28, 280zs come wired up for the l28e so... I just do not like wiring. I am wanting to put the vh in a carburated vehicle. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=91733&page=6 I dont think the stock intake manifold can be turned into a carburated manifold with the design of it. I guess you would have to go with a design like this, this is on a vh41. Looks like he has a separate ignition system. http://www.turbo-infiniti.com/viewtopic.php?t=63&sid=d6ae9b257323442dbb0192cc83bdbcb1 So I guess the main things are Ignition, and the manifold. Maybe I think its just to hard to wire it up? Any good sites on wiring up cars for different engines, because it seems like a huge task for me,I love fuel injection, but I hate wiring.
  10. I just put a good maf on my friends 86 and it fixed his problem. He would have to start his car about 10-15 times while it was warming up. And it didnt drive smooth. But now with this other maf it runs perfect. A maf is easy to change. They are easy to find where im at, I have a extra one in my room, and a the local junkyard has like 4 of them.
  11. I wonder if he used the vg30i tbi manifold with an adaptor, I might pick one up...
  12. Are you ever going to use flares? I like how the Z looks stock, I cant imagen a wide tire can fit under there stock without flares. Im just not into them that much. Edit- nevermind, Bartmans setup is using 275s and it looks good!
  13. yea I understand the whole backing plate thing, but I just dont want to have to buy 2 hubs just for a tiny bracket
  14. I took this from your thread, How do you get that and that(that being the end of the arrow LOL) apart, so that you can remove the bracket?
  15. I know where 1 is, Ive been reading about them and yea some are welded on, hope thats not the case with the one im going to look at. to take the hub off I just need to unbolt the halfshaft, I dont have to remove the stub axle do I(I think I would need an impact wrench for that)? ... I need to just go look.
  16. I have heard that the 300zx ecu has a richer fuel map. plus you can use a maf and not a afm. I dont think you can use a maf on the 280 ecu
  17. Im going to the junkyard on friday, what tools are needed to remove those brackets from the older maximas... I dont need anything special do i?
  18. I pulled a 5spd trans out of a 280(jn1c car) today thinking it was a t5, and for some reason it wasnt... it had the same style shifter as the 4spd trans in my 76... I thought all turbos came with the t5. All t5s have the 4bolt style shifter right? Maybe it broke and someone through in a n/a 5spd trans... Are those worth trying to sell, I know my n/a 5spd from a 300zx isnt worth anything. but the drive shaft looked weird like it had a small diameter portion then a bigger diameter portion near the rear, like a bottleneck in the middle of the drive shaft(custom maybe). is that normal for a s130? Also any way to tell if the flywheel is still the turbo/2+2 flywheel
  19. I just got refunded my money because I waited too long to pay for a part(cause im an idiot) and the dude already got rid of the part, and just gave me money back. I have never gotten screwed over by some on z forums.
  20. I can get a p90 head out of a 83 turbo 280, and a turbo flywheel. are people paying good money for these parts? can also get a valve cover. ill get the turbo engine too if its in really good shape. and sell it
  21. I would have pulled the engine out to remove the turbo LOL. Id remove the engine for everything lol. my cousin took a longer time pulling a turbo out than I did pulling a motor with everything on it. but if you keep on having tons of problems or no hoist, I guess its not an option.
  22. Im going to use mirrors off of a 81 280zxt I used to have. the hole needs to be bigger like ^^^ he said but it looks like it can be made to work really easily, I just havnt charged up my drill LOL. And I dont think the left mirror can be used on either side, well thats the case on the s130 mirrors.
  23. I think its on streetfire. but its where 2 people are racing and a black s30 just fly bys them on the left on the interstate. and someone in the comments says something like that cars something else, and someone says thats a hybridz or something like that. I looked for it before but can never find it.
  24. Where in NC are you located, Im near charlotte.
