  1. once you have the parts is super easy, i through mine together in a few days( assembled the motor with turbo and intake then dropped it in. im converting to 300zx/z31 ecu, maf and wiring(so I can use nistune)... I have all that stuff because I work on 300zx all the time. but for you I recommend stock 280zx turbo stuff. And like the previous post, find a turbo/2+2 clutch and flywheel
  2. I search and found nothing, I think the ka trans works on the l28 but I found nothing about the starter, I have 30 bucks to buy one and I found one about 50miles away(a l28 starter). but my local junkyard has a 240sx one for like 12 or so. Just wondering if any one has tried to use one, im going to test fit it in the junkyard on a l28. And maybe hotwire it up to a battery to see if it works... If someone knows they would save me the trouble and I can just buy it. Also are auto starters and manual starters different. on car-part.com it asked me which one I was looking for so I dont know. Thanks.
  3. Whenever I have been sliding my Z around in parking lots one thing I noticed is it doesnt have enough lock or whatever(angle) and I cant hold a drift sometimes.... you talking about these from msa? http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/PSDC11/23-4181 and why people choose corollas for drifting so much bloody aftermarket in steering, also can take the internals out of the PS rack and put them in the non PS rack and it gives you extra lock, it has 1 or 2 more teeth on it. I have no intention to make a drift car out of my ae86, but a fun street car(4agze supercharged motor) but I just think yall will like to see what people do on these rollas http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic/finally-my-2008-driftcar/t/6245 before after steering rack stuff
  4. I personally still like the vg30et over everything(thinking about selling my l28 crap and putting a vg in my s30... The l28 has nice power but if you want 50/50 weight dist. I think a v6 would be good, and it has a ton of torque stock, plus you can use the TT trans which is strong. my 85 300zx has no problem getting sidewayZ(but its hard to drift with 260,000 miles on stock suspension and no drift tracks so...) 240sx rear subframe swap too would be nice.
  5. Cool, looks good, was thinking about doing this in my 280z, personally I have never been a fan on super nice interior, I like functionality more than looks, so I don't care if you can peak around but it would look cleaner I guess if you couldn't.
  6. I dont know that its flaking enough for a pressure washer but I was looking for some kind of paint thinner stuff to use like what JSM said, but I can try both. Who ever had it just threw it on it looks like, but yea where its flaking it looks good underneath, I only paid 300 bucks for a 5spd ae86 that runs so its all cool. here are some pictures, im not sure why the primered it, maybe that jdm look I dunno
  7. I just got a 85 ae86 corolla gts(I know not a Z at all, but this is the only forum that I really go on other than 88hybrid, so whatever metals metal and paints paint... i got a corolla thats primered grey and its flaking in some places and it looks good underneath where its flaking, it looks like it has good clear coat and silver paint, is there any way to just remove that one layer of primer from the car? someone told me to use 1000grit and wetsand but I dont know, what do yall think?
  8. I have never seen one, never seen one for sale around here. I just found one for 500 in my town. how much cash can you get for the engine parts(which I think is just the head, crank, and intake). if rare how rare?
  9. My friend races dirttrack, he ran his 2 liter datsun to 9k rpms in his 240sx and all he ran was amsoil and that engine lasted a few seasions with no problems ever and never blew up, they sold it because they went to a v8 car. I use walmarts supertech LOL
  10. I put 81 turbo parts(intake, exhaust, oil lines, oil pan, dizzy, and other stuff) on a na 78 engine, and stuck it in a 76 car, and had not one problem, everything bolted where it was supposed to all the holes were there... both nice cars, nicer than my old 81, and nicer than my 76(mine was 75$ though) If it were me, id get the zx driving, fix the problem in the 75 motor, fix all the body problems(like rust) while driving the 81.
  11. what year were those, if they help up that good they will be awesome on a stock l28 LOL
  12. And correct me if im wrong but wouldn't this work with any z31 and pathfinder 2wd trans seeing as how the bolt pattern is the same on the vg30e and vg30de(Minus the starter placement which I think doesn't matter if you use the adaptor.)
  13. I might have missed it(sry if I did) but is this for the na or tt trans?
  14. I hear good things about dxd clutches which I think is just exedy or something. Its what im going to be using in my 300 http://www.z31parts.com/drivetrain.html http://www.dxdracingclutches.com/home.html
  15. Ok thanks! I didnt think it was a great idea either, because I would have to cut, and I thought the line was kinda small compared to the coolers lines which are pretty beefy.
  16. Ive been thinking of using an auto trans cooler off of a 2000 or something ford truck I found at the junkyard, its is a pretty beefy looking cooler, my cousin said it should flow enough for oil. But how would tap into the oil? I was thinking that you could cut into the turbo oil feed line and let it flow into the cooler then route it back into the line where you cut it... I can get the cooler for cheap, I don't want to cut my oil line up either so just seeing if other people have done this, or im posting this to see if this is a bad idea... btw my motor a 78 if that matters, maybe there is a way to tap into the engine somehow im not experienced with the l28 as much as I am with the vg Thanks
  17. I like 3 people helping me when putting a motor in, since im not on concrete(im on grass) I need people to push the car, push the hoist, or push the engine. but otherwise its mainly me on my car.
  18. ok cool, ill be easy on it...
  19. for my 81(actually its a 78n/a motor but turbo parts from a 81) turbo motor im using the 78 4spd I have, im not using the auto that the 81 came with unless I can build that some how... anyway any one have experience on breaking these 4spds on a stock l28et? maybe some advice on how much I can or can not beat up on this tranny would help, I have a t5 from a 85 turbo Z maybe I can use if or when it breaks, would just need a bell housing ive heard... I kind of think that since the car is light it will be easier on the tranny but I have no experience with the 4spds. Also I am using a stock 78 2+2 clutch(which I read is what the stock turbo uses also, size wise). I dont really have any money and can only leave the car in pieces or put it together and hope it all wont break or slip...
  20. I doubt anything is missing, this is the first time the trans has been out im sure, as the donor looked completely stock. I dont know, ill take a picture of it, the boot just slides up and off, just left it on so it wouldnt get dirty.
