  1. I have lived all my life in the northwest and have had (more than) my fair share of Ranier Beer. But, that was mostly when I was much youger and couldn't afford GOOD beer. Considering the bear's only other choice was Busch, I consider his choice a toss-up Ranier did have some great TV commercials back in the day...
  2. I agree with what Forrest and Mike say 100%. This site is my home on the web. I am here several times a day to READ what is new. I try only to post when I think have something to contribute. Because I feel like this place is home, I don't want the 'company' that visits here to deteriorate any further. I like hanging out with and learning from folks here. It would be a major shame to see this place go the way of some of the other sites I refuse to spend any time on now. I support making membership paid. I wouldn't want it to be so costly that our younger or less affluent members wouldn't have a place to come and learn and contribute. I'd hate to see some folks go away becuase of costs, but some sacrifices have to be made in an effort to protect the integrity of the site. It would be nice if there were 'contributing' and 'non-contributing' memberships. Contributing members would have the ability to post. Non-contributing members would only have the ability to ready content at a lower cost. These thoughts are just off the top of my head and haven't been completely thought through, but they may be worth a discussion. -Marc
  3. Here are some pics from Eric Neyerlin's site of Dan's setup in progress: http://zparts.com/showcase/djudayv8proj/shoot1/index.htm I believe he used a Suzuki Samuri tank and kept the stock filler location. I am using a 20gal foam-filled aluminum cell from Summit. I'm not sure if I'll run a filler tube or not since, I'm building a Velo Rossa and will have a trunk that will separate the filler from the passenger area: http://marcsgarage.net/gallery/FuelCell

    figuring out the t56

Use the search function to search the drivetrain forum. There are tons of posts covering this topic. Such as this one: http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=8981&highlight=t56+flywheel
  6. I would think a mental health problem is a prerequisite for this kinda thing! Bizzarre!
  7. Saab 9000 Aero? Ferrari made a 400i sedan, but I don't think there were any 4-door models.
  8. I'm sure that is all accurate. All I'm saying that a modest community site with forums, news, minor amounts of large files like images and a user community of less than 100 people can be setup on a hosting service for $20 month. Of course, if the site is sucessful and grows (much like this site) the costs will go up too. I set up a PHPNuke site for a friend with around 15-20 active users via a hosting provider for $6/month. It had a limit of 150Mb of space. It worked well, but never really took off as a community site and was eventually shut down due to lack of interest.
  9. The cost for this site (I am fairly confident) are higher because Dan is responsible for his own server. He may have it co-located in a hosting facility, but I think he paid for the server, upgraded memory, more disk space, etc. These are cost you don't incur if you utilize a hosting service. Those costs are absorbed in the $5 to $25 per month in hosting fees. The downside of using a hosting provider is that you don't have control of the server, bandwidth, memory, etc. I could setup a site like this via a hosting provider for $20/month, but I would be limited to 500Mb of disk space. I'm sure that HybridZ uses A LOT more space. A new, modest site, however, might run under 500Mb for a few years, unless you have thousands of users and/or are hosting lots of images. There are lots of different issues that can affect the costs. You can start a site like this on the cheap. It's like our cars: You can do lots of little mods on the cheap or, you can spend 10s of thousands of dollars really building a monster...
  10. Kyle - Although, I'm not an admin here, I've setup websites for companies I've worked for, myself and friends. The cost to host a site, that is, what you will pay a company for space on their servers, network bandwidth, etc. varies considerably depending on the features you want to incorporate in your site, how many visitors you'll have, how many forum messages will be generated and stored, etc. The software to run a site like this one is generally open-source. Meaning, you can get it for free. There are lots of pay packages too. I believe this site is running on a Linux server and is utilizing a package called PHPNuke. You'd be surprised how cheaply you can get a site like this started. However, your time to get it going and manage it is another story. If it grows to be very popular and you are storing a lot of info, it will start to become more expensive. The basics you are going to pay for are (I'm guessing on avg. pricing): domain name registration: $10-@20 year. Hosting (I prefer Linux): $5 - $20/month (or much more) depending on your needs Community/portal 'system' like PHPNuke: Free other basic software utilities: Free to $ whatever If you are going to do this yourself, you'll need to understand basic HTML and want to learn some basic PHP if you use Nuke or something similar. You'll also need to understand some very basic Linux commands, be able to use FTP and/or SSH. There are many other details, but if you have the time, the interest and the basic computer skills, it's not too tough to do. Google PHPNuke. You should get lots of hits and find lots of sites with good information about setting it up, etc. I can give you some feedback on a few of the hosting companies I've used (my new favorite is 1and1.com) and what to look for in their packages. PM me if I can help. I'm sure Dan will have all kinds of information about this site and all the work that has gone into it...
  11. Maichor added what I think is a 1x1 square tube 'backbone' frame along the trans tunnel on his Velo Rossa project. Here is a link to some of his pictures I'll bet he can give you some details if you PM him.
  12. I've never claimed any different You know what they say: "If mamma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!" As long as I make sure she's happy, she doesn't question where all the shiny new parts in my garage are coming from!
  13. I wish! I could have saved A LOT of $$ if my wife would even consider a minivan. She wouldn't even consider a Volvo V70XC. In her words: "It's STILL a station wagon... When I first met her, she wouldn't even consider a 4 door sport sedan. I ended up having to shell out for an Eddie Bauer Expedition to hold the kids and all the gear.
  14. Doh! You are correct. I was thinking of the even more box-like style previous to about '89. I still would have been wrong. I thought that everything previous to that year still had the L6.
  15. I've had the same day dream... I believe it was with the '95 model year Nissan switched ends and went to front wheel drive. All '94 and older (boxy body style) were rear wheel drive.
  16. I have a '98 Maxima SE with a 5 speed that is almost completely stock. Traction is definately a problem. It has all kinds of torque and it's difficult to keep it planted. I have to really baby it when trying to quickly come off a stoplight, no matter what tires I have on it. However, I have to say that I absolutely love the car! It's quick, handles great and is very comfotable to drive at high speed. It easily eats my 300Z's lunch. The only thing better about my Z31 is it's seats...
  17. Uh, I can do that. Reminds of a toy from my childhood: Weebles. "Weebles wobble, but they don't fall down" ...Mustangs spin, but they don't spin out... Could be a marketing avenue for Ford. Nice piece of driving, anyway.
  18. A heat gun and a scraper took care of the underside of my 240. I cleaned up any residue with laquer thinner. Once it was clean, I sprayed it down with POR-15 metal prep, 2 coats of POR-15 black. let it cure for two weeks and gave it all a light sanding. Finally, I topped it all off with several coats of 3M rubberized under coating. It looks great and should last a long time... Of course, this was all done while the chassis was on a rotisserie.
  19. Ohhh, mannn. Try harder to resist next time. (wiping tears of laughter from my eyes)
  20. I vaguely remember a thread about intalling a newer dash in an S30 with pictures of the final product. I remember it being pretty impressive. I want to say that it was a 240SX dash, but I really don't remember. Whatever it is/was, it'll be a pretty custom intensive effort.
  21. The only alternatives that I am aware of are more retro-styled dashes like the ones from Reaction Research
  22. Sumo - You are correct. I forgot there were two "Lones" I was referring to LoneHDrider... BTW - What's up with your avatar, dude?
