  1. I have the same same spell checking function on firefox as well. Makes life a little simpler. I have to say, I am glad that I dont see as many "HI I LIKE Z'S DO YOU KNOW HOW I CAN MAKE IT UBER FAST SO I CAN DRIFTOOOOOOOO?" It seems like the majority of the people on here are pretty goods about making sure they are civil and well understood.
  2. Just spotted this one on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-240z-1973-Datsun-240Z-with-modified-Chevy-350-V8_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6187QQihZ011QQitemZ320228376912QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  3. Third time I've seen that car on ebay with false info
  4. oops, my bad. The AE101 Had the silver top 20V and the AE111 has the black top 20V I sold my 86 a while back and now I've forgotten all my corolla facts...
  5. one of the local Austin Z guys has two deloreans:biggrin:
  6. Sounds like you're talking about backfiring through the intake, that's probably gonna be a timing issue. If everything is set properly but it continues to backfire, try retarding the timing a few degrees and see if it goes away.
  7. Welcome to my world. Since your problem seems to have dissapeared and you dont know why, and you've tried to eliminate everything else, check your wiring. A loose, or damaged connection can cause a problem like that to appear and then dissapear. If it comes back, check your grounds first, then check the wiring at the mass airflow sensor, and if you havent found anything, take a look at the wiring to the ECU.
  8. That's not too bad of a deal, but realize that the 89 model is a Front wheel drive car. On the plus side, it's a 20 valve 4AG instead of the 16 valve from the 84-87 model.
  9. New better video, kinda short though:
  10. That one looks pretty good. But definitely check for rust, leaks, and all the normal stuff. I havent seen any of those in person, the few cars I've checked out recently weren't up for sale online. Most were over priced, and/or had serious problems that the owners attempted to cover up, or distract me from by talking about all the "new parts" and "recent restoration work" I lost a perfect rust free shell due to a widow's belief that her former husbands(he was an ex husband in addition to the fact he had passed away) 240 bare, and i do mean bare, shell was worth 7-8k. She had three other non running Z's that a few of the other local guys were interested in.. but she would not bring the price down to any reasonable amount. On top of that, she wouldnt let us see them in person. She only wanted to talk to us through the assistant of the local Z shop, who has since moved away. No one seems to have a way to contact her at this point.

  12. ooooooo... nother car for me to go look at, wonder if he'd drop the price if i traded him a cam with a sheered off pin?
  13. yo yo, I'm another ATX guy
  14. Update I re-located the autometer's sending unit, and capped off the carb preheating hoses. So far so good. I ran it for around 8 minutes, by 5 minutes the autometer gauge read 150-160 degrees and stayed there. I still have the thermostat out like yesterday afternoon. The engine seemed a lot happier at that temp, finally allowed me to rev it up a little easier than normal(carbs aren't sync'd and it will usually putter out when i try to give it gas) but I still seem to be cooking my oil a little, when I shut her down after 8 minutes I pulled the oil cap off and got a small steady stream of smoke like all the times before. It isnt acting like it did yesterday, so I'm not sure what to make of it. There's a possibility that the carb pre heater hoses had something to do with it since that is really the only thing I've changed. I had bought a second water pump just in case, but have not put it on yet. I am concerned that the problem may come back though. As for the smoke from the valve cover, I am going to re-adjust the rocker arm clearances, being that this was my spare head, i know they arent right and that may be the cause of the smoke. *edit* might be blowby from the rings *end edit* I dont have much more time to mess with it today, and it's not really fixed yet, but I will probably be doing more problem solving most of tomorrow.
  15. I am relocating the autometer gauge sending unit to get a better reading and also buying a second water pump first thing in the morning. I will hopefully have more information in the morning. There is a possibility of a restriction in the head itself, it looked alright when I had it off and I used a hose to make sure water flowed freely through all the openings... but the engine had been sitting for close to 10 years with coolant in it so that remains a possibility. I need to eliminate all other possibilities before that since this was my spare head, and I dont have another one laying around.
  16. That's one posibility I am considering, it is a brand new water pump, but I have seen them bad off the shelf, so I'm going to have to eliminate that too at this point. I do have a belt, haha, that was the first thing I checked.
  17. haha, hadnt thought about that as a possibility, my radiator didnt come with plugs and I had a single shop towel in either end when it spent a while out of the car, which was removed before the hoses were put on. So unfortunately that's not the case. Thanks for the idea though.
  18. In addition heat feels like it is being dissapated evenly across the entire radiator, no cold spots I could feel.
  19. Update I replaced the thermostat with another new 180 degree did my best to eliminate air pockets, no apparent movement of the coolant in the radiator when I was looking in from the top, and still no flow until the engine is OFF. She's still overheating, and fast. Still no reading on EITHER of my two temp gauges. I then removed the thermostat all together. I did have some flow, but it didnt appear to be much, the radiator is now cooling the engine somewhat, but again, it is still overheating quickly, and again, no reading from either of the temp gauges.
