That does not happen unless you pour seafoam DIRECTLY into the intake manifold via a vaccuum line, normally the brake booster line. I have done this in a dozen cars, including my own... adding seafoam or Lucas Fuel Injector cleaner(i sell both at an autoparts place) will not cause your car to smoke like that if poured into the gas tank. Atleast, I have never seen it happen. To the best of my knowledge, most of the time when you have white smoke, and I'm talking a pure white with no bluish tint, it is usually water/coolant burning. The majority of my car knowledge is limited to newer type cars, EFI. My carb knowledge is limited. The big question is, are you losing coolant? If not, then I'm not sure what's going on. Like i said, carbs arent my strong point yet. good luck to you

well... actually... the fluid could have come from the old master... it was leaking pretty bad... i guess now i know where... As for the vacuum pump... it only sucks, doesnt blow... so i dont think that is the case.... but I'm not 100% sure, I'm kinda running out of time tonight to work on it.... and anyway, forza 2 just came out today and I'm already driving a 240Z on there(god that game is awesome. I appreciate you're quick response, I'm gonna go fiddle with it for another hour or so... but i'm pretty sure I'm not going to be able to fix it tonight.... If anyone else has any ideas what could be going on, i would very much appreciate any input

Ok, like an idiot, I decided to do my rear disc conversion AND replace the master cylinder today.... I got the rear brake discs and what not on after 4 or so hours, and figured, "it's getting late, but the master should be no problem" I DIDNT bleed the rear brakes before removing the old master. I DIDNT bench bleed the master.(have a little vacuum pump and didnt think i would have to.) I put the master on(had to replace one of the lines that goes to the master which was a bitch) and then hooked the vacuum pump to one of the bleeder screws for the master...... 10 minutes later, I'm still getting air bubbles.... So i decided I'd try to bleed all the air out of the lines by bleeding the rear brakes..... 10 minutes later.... still no fluid coming out... and fluid level in the master is still the same..... So i decided... something is wrong, and started pumping the brake pedal. The engine is not in the car. And the brake booster vacuum line is not connected to anything but the booster itself. I heard hissing and then that "baby vomit" air and fluid sound..... fluid was spraying out of the booster's vacuum line..... which i'm pretty F***ing sure shouldnt be happening... I remeber that when i pulled the old master out, the peice that is inside the booster had green stuff, which looked like algea(i cant spell right now) growing on it.. not sure what it was. the fluid lever in the master did drop when i was pumping the pedal... i dont know if it was going into the lines or out the booster... but the pedal was very firm, infact, almost hard to press down.... I spent 3 hours at the post office trying to get my passport... then i came home and messed with the rear disc conversion... and now this. I'm just about to take a hammer to the car and push it into the woods... I dont know if i just got a defective master off the shelf, or if the booster is messed up... or both.... but any help as soon as possible would be very much appreciated.

I bought my car on 06/06/06, my license plate is a Classic 1972 Texas plate with the number... "DWB 666" I finished building the new motor on friday the 13th. And even though I found this thing in a junk yard, the title says the previous owner was the "Austin Police Department" Take your pick. as for the hack jobs... I'm already scared of the hack jobs I found....random extra wires.... random cut wires....

OOOOH, that's what those are... i noticed two when i was taking my dash out and wasnt sure what those regulators were for, and was too lazy to stick my nose back in a book and find out what they were (i work in a parts store and my nose is always buried in parts books)

Hahaha, yeah, I've heard some stories from some friends who are cops, that's gotta be pretty funny! Akward, but funny!

No, it actually did happen here too, it was all over the news about a year to a year and a half ago. It happend on I-35 halfway between the I-35 deck split and 183. In this case it was a single wheel that came off and bounced over the median. It imeediately came down on the womans car, with now warning, and hit the windshield. The truckdriver in the meantime saw the wheel come off and hit the brakes and pulled off the highway slowwing down enough that when the second wheel came off it mas only going a few mph and rolled off the road with him. My "I've heard of people dying in a 10mph accident" was a seperate comment from the Semi tire comment, hence the comma.

First off, I'm not trying to be a dick, just explain a point. It's not entirely the "roll over" thing that has everyone putting in cages. There are two main things that have me interested in one. Reason one, look at this picture: In a side impact, where do you get hit? sometimes the very front... sometimes the very back... but where I worry about the most is right square in the middle. when you get hit in the middle, you have 3 main areas you could be hit. Area one, near the firewall. It's pretty bad, but you have the firewall as well as the structural support near the battery tray thay atleast protects you some. Second area, the middle of the door, look at this picture, he got hit more or less in the middle of both areas. Not much protection there... And area Three, the back edge of the door and the rear quarter right behind the door. Again, not much more than door there to protect you, and the rear quarter doesnt offer a whole lot of extra protection. The wheel well is a structural point that will help some, but in my personal opinion, having that extra half cage there will atleast help the car from flexing more than having nothing there. A cage not only protects you in a rollover, but it helps keep most(half cage) or all(full cage) of the cabin a lot more rigid than no cage at all, that's why it helps in a roll over. It also helps on side impact. You dont seem to think that it would have much effect, but why do you think that on a ful cage, a good one mind you, they have a bar that goes parallel to the door? For SIDE impacts. The other reason I will probably buy a half cage is this: My shoulder belt on my 240Z SUCKS, just sitting in the car without going anywhere, i have to adjust it to where i cant move. If I can move the shoulder belt usually unhooks. I would really like a half cage, or even just a single cross bar so that I can put in a decent 4 point harness. I would much rather be secure in my seat than have to worry "Is this that one time my seat belt comes un hooked?" because as much as I love my car, I really dont want to be un intentionally french kissing my steering wheel if i wind up in a front end collision. A unibody car gains it's rigitity and structural integrity from pretty much the ENTIRE BODY(with the exception of a few places) You'd be surprised what parts of the Z are actually extremely important structual points, and it just so happens that the wheel wells are some of those points. Sorry to be an ass, but if you are NOT wearing a seat belt, an air bag has a much greater chance of KILLING YOU. Air bags are an ADDITION to your restraint system I.E. Seatbelt. They're designed to cushion you when you are in a high speed impact, controlling how much you move upon impact to keep mainly your head, but also you arms to a small extent, from flailing around excessively. A seatbelt only holds your torso and does not restrain your head in any way, and thus the need for an air bag. I do agree with you. I'm not taking my car to the track, i dont need to weld in a full cage. And yes, welding all willy nilly isnt going to get you anywhere, unless you're trying to create some sort of car art. Research is important, and if you want to weld in a cage... dont go buy some cheap generic cage... because it probably isnt worth more than the $100 you paid for it. Find an SCCA legal half cage, or something to that effect. Here's my deal with fire extinguishers. I had one in my Daily Driver SUV for years. I never needed it. BUT if for what ever reason, maybe something shorts out in my dash or center console... and it's a small fire, i may be able to put it out pretty quick, yeah, I have a big scorch mark, and i need an electrition... but it can probably be fixed. If i just let a little bitty fire sit, and i get out of the car to let it "burn itself out" whether you cut the battery power or not, theres carpet, plastic, and plenty of other fuel sources, and it probably wont "burn it self out" untill it's burned everything to the point where there's only smoldering metal heap where your car was. I'm not stupid, if i cant put the fire out quick, I'd drop the extinguisher and get the f*** out of the car before it gets worse. That's comon sense, but a fire doesnt start huge, you have a good chance of putting it out if you're quick... if you're not quick, yeah, get out, call 911...... and your insurance company.... But my Z on the otherhand... has caught on fire before. there are burn holes in my old fuse box... plenty of them.. one of the first things i did was switch over to the MSA Blade style fuse box. and I will almost definately be carrying a fire extinguisher. With a new car, if it burns down, your insurance will probably get you a brand new identical one(if you're insurance is that good) but I dont think my insurance is going to hand build a new Z for me if mine burns down, and they probably wont give me nearly enough to go buy one that's in half as good of shape as mine is. Out of the 20 accidents I've seen, 5 of them were roll overs, one of those roll overs was a Lancer(belonged to a friend) that rolled over on a country road at 40, something caused his brakes to lock for a second and he slid into a ditch that had an embankment, which in turn flipped the car over. My cousin was also involved in a roll over accident, his girlfriend at the time, was almost killed. Odds are easily manipulated, and even if the odds are really good that you'll never have something happen to you, it might. The odds were pretty good that I was never going to rear-end an FBI pickup... but i did, crazy and unlikely, yes, but if you dont believe me, I have the paperwork from the insurance claim to prove it. It even says "Your claim with the FBI has been settled" Basically, I agree and dissagree with you. Can you really make a 30 year old car safer? I think so. Is a roll cage going to help with anything other than that slight chance you'll roll? Maybe, maybe not, it's luck of the draw, if you get hit in the right place, yes, if you get hit in the wrong place no. If you've got a harness to go with that cage or half cage, you're probably a little more secure... But, is spending all that money really worth it? If you're lucky, yeah, that $500-1500 you spent on everything may save your life. if you're unlucky, then you spent all that money, got hit just right and now you're in the hospital or you're unfortunatley no longer with us. I've seen a car that rear ended a semi, and then was rear ended by ANOTHER semi, it didnt even look like a car anymore it was so crushed... but the driver of the car was pulled out(jaws of life) and had only minor injuries. I've also heard of people dying from a 10mph collision, and even an incident here in Austin where a Semi's wheel came off and bounced across to the other side of the highway, over a median, and happend to come down right on a woman's windshield, killing her instantly. No matter how safe you make a car, if luck just isnt on your side that day. you could be badly injured or killed. That's just the way life is, sorry to be such a downer.

I've been pulled over 35 times in the last 4 years. I've talked my way out of all but 6. I've even some how managed to talk my way out a 50 in a 30 zone where the sheriff actually said word for word "Why in the hell were you blatently disregarding the law?!?" Good call on telling you're girlfriend to leave her shirt off. He probably would have accused her of not wearing a seat belt if she had put a shirt on. I'm not sure about the laws in WA, but it would have been hard to make that reckless stand up in court if even HE agrees that you werent going over the speed limit. Especially if the speed limit is 30mph. Around here, he probably could have made "Exhibition of Acceleraton" stick in court. He pulled you over cause you "won" You did a good job, and you got lucky he wasnt a real prick. Glad to hear you didnt get a ticket

RB Z in June Super Street Magazine
Austin240Z replied to markrolston@mac.com's topic in Nissan RB Forum
ditto, saw the car at the Rudy's meet in Austin a while back, very impressive! Though I heard some rumors shortly after that the engine blew on the track, but I'm glad that's not the case. Congrats -
This is my favorite idiot racer story.... OK, so about a year ago, my good friend andrew and I were in his Silvia(S13, Silvia front bumpers, but still a stock KA) this car is about 130hp to the wheels. The Silvia's got a custom made cat back exhuast that used to be on our friend Sam's 240sx, untill Sam blew up his motor at 150mph running, moonshine instead of gas, while racing a ferrari(ferarri part may have been BS, i never saw the other car). A little hard to beleive yes... but the crank was shaped like a "U" when I saw what was left of the motor so I beleive him. Pretty much ALL of the #2 piston went out the exhuast as well as a 5 or 6 foot flame. Needless to say, this muffler doesnt do much "muffling" it's freaking LOUD! We dyno'd this car, stock with the exeption of the catback and a shortram just to get an idea of what we were starting with. The car was loud, and sounded like a jet , especially when you stepped out of the small part of the garage where the dyno was. There were a bunch of guys working on some pretty heavily modified civics on the other side of the building who litterally came running when they heard his car. Here's a bid of one of the dyno runs if you're interested. I always thought it sounded better in person though. This car is basically STOCK, it is NOT fast, dyno sheet said 132hp was the max if i remeber correctly.... it's been a few years... Sorry for the long setup, but back to the story. He and I were in his car, Silvia front, sounds pretty mean... but i's a STOCK KA motor... no turbo, no nothing. We're cruising through trafic, i dont remember why... when what do we see? An unrecognisably generic Sedan, probably a Geo or a corolla... it's got the clasic "dumb ricer" stickers, "Type R" "VTEC" "APC", it had a BUNCH of flame sticers, badly done pinestriping sticers... and ofcourse, my all time favorite, the generic, double decker, APC wall-mart wing. Stock exhuast. Steelies. LED washer fluid sprayers. Classic "Dumb Ricer" all show, no go. And there wasnt much to the "All show part" anyway. Like I said, Andrew's car is really loud, so everyone on the road probably saw us coming, and you can be sure this guy did. We hit a red light. we pull up to the line, he pulls up too... we're not racing, we just happend to be the first ones to the light. When he pulled up, he didnt pull up all the way, we couldnt see the driver. What ever, we really didnt want to see him, or any more of his car after the short laugh we had when we first saw it. The light turns green and Andrew puts his foot, 1/3rd to half of the way down on the pedal... we pull away form the light, the other car does too, but we're pulling away rather quickly.. though we arent trying, in about 6 seconds we're atleast 5 or 6 car lengths ahead... we're coasting now... and he starts inching closer to our car... very slowly.... then suddenly we hear this distinctive "TSSSSSSSSS" sound and the car behind us starts moving about 5mph faster... slowly passing us... while we're just coasting.. Andrew and I look at eachother... then at the speedometer which reads "45mph" I look back at Andrew and ask, "did you just hear...?" "yeah" he says quickly... "So he just...?" I said "yeah" he responds again. Then we both bust out laughing "he just sprayed nitrous to get past us while we were coasting at 45!!!" Classic I love telling this story, in part, because, you know, when that guy or girl got home, they called everyone they had ever met and said "Hey man, I just beat a Silvia, and we were both doing 120 miles an hour, and we both sprayed, and i beat him dude!" hope you enjoyed this story as much as I enjoyed experiencing it.

I saw one on ebay a week ago off of a 72, the bidding ended a few days ago, but i dont think anyone got it, you may wanna check... they pop up on there from time to time
-
I have the same concern, I have also seen pics of them in... but from what i remeber from putting in them in my 86, you'd have to quite a bit of cutting and welding to get them in a Z... If it had been an easy swap...(in an 86, you just needed a dremmel to make the hole slightly bigger) I'd promise you i would have kept them and they'd have been the first thing i would have done to my Z. When you get them, lemme know if you have any luck getting them in. I'd love to see pictures. If it's not too bad, I may be buying a new set.

Where can you get those? I've been looking for them and cant seem to find them...

Go to a Mustang meet here in the US and ask "Anyone feel like putting an RB26 into a '67 Fastback Mustang" *cough* Fast and Furious *cough* The reaction you get from the Mustang guys is probably gonna be a lot like the reaction you would get from Z Guys in Japan if you asked "Wanna drop a V8 in that thing?" I may be wrong, but that's what my opinion is. I dont have a problem with Z V8 swaps.. but when I heard that in FF:Tokyo Drift, they put an RB in that mustang, my first reaction was "Uh.... I dont know about this..." After I saw it, the swap really grew on me, it looked good, and I would have loved to see that car in person... but I work with a few Die hard mustang guys... and they're still cursing the day that movie came out. I havent been to Japan, so I dont know, but I have a feeling, some of those Japanese Z guys would be just as upset. In my opinion, if it works, and you love how it looks and performs, then more power to you, dont worry about what everyone else thinks
