  1. Today, if something goes wrong, you don't even lift the hood. You call road service on your cellphone. People don't even change flat tires, let alone oil. And to think a few decades back, people actually decoked valves! We've definitely lost something. - JAY LENO , Popular Mechanics April 2000

  7. too retro? Wonder how these lines would blend into a Z31?
  8. I have 2, and '02 convertible, V6 auto. ....and.... '66 coupe V8 4-speed. the '02 is a very comfortable commuter, but after 50 miles I start to feel the bigger bumps in the road.... and the 100% plastic interior rattles and squeaks, but I'm used to that. Ride quality is better than my 280Z, which at 20 years older and the same mileage you would expect, but he Z ( stock springs, stock, new struts, 70R215 tires ) still handles much more precisely than the Mustang did new. In 120,000 miles I have only had a few parts go out. Hard Parts ( '94-'04 are basically the same) are plentiful and cheap on eBay!! One front wheel hub $45. One Driver's door pull handle $29 EGR valve $45 3 sets of tires. The '66 rides like a coal wagon, but acceleration is in the realm of a scalded hound dog. She was my DD for 15 years and we both have the scars to prove it. Now its a toy to cruise by Dairy Queen on Friday evenings.....
  9. I got the biggest one of these at Northern Tool. It was about $16.

So, what apart of Holland is that Z from?
  12. The answer is in the JTR manual. You need a replacement electric pump, and most likely a fuel pressure regulator to provide 4-6 psi fuel pressure. THe stock 280Z fuel pump won't work, and the stock V8 mechnical pump is in the way of the set-back plates for the motor mounts.
  13. Need to drop the transmission. You can't remove the top cover of a T5 through the shifter hole in the console and floor pan. It probably is just a roll pin betwen the rod and fork, but "while I'm at it" syndrome will kick in and you might as well rebuild (bearings, synchros, seals) the transmission while it is out of the car.
  14. Here is an exploded diagram ..... Are your 2nd position cups (from the front) in backwards?

  16. Something weird in my 1992 Ford Exploder V6 5 speed 4X4 295K miles. I googled and searched the Ford truck forums and didn't find any answers there. The tach in my daily driver (factory in-dash analog) started reading about 1,500 RPM too high about a month ago. It is off that amount at any RPM (except off - still = 0) so its more of a linear error than incremental. The engine is turning normal speeds and the clutch isn't slipping. The Last work I did on it was replace the alternator 3 months ago. It didn't creep up gradually, I just noticed it from 1 day to the next. For about 10 miles this morning it was reading correct again, then I saw it bounce up and go back to 1,500 too high. Could it be mechanical? a weakened 18-year-old return spring? sticky bushings? Electrical? fading voltage regulator voltage regulator (a guess my 1966 Mustang has one - uses 5V for the dash gagaes) Ignition? coil pack sparking an extra pulse 66% of the time? thanks for any ideas!
  17. And step away from the Buick....
  18. Here's some pictures of the forementioned bellhousing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-CJ-Bellhousing-Small-Block-Chevy-Swap-76-86-t5-t-5_W0QQitemZ220480574435QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3355aa93e3&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 The input shaft for a WC T5 Mustang is 9-1/4", very close to the input shaft length of the NWC T5 Jeep trans @ 9-5/16" You shouldn't need to change the input shaft. Might need to mix some clutch parts, I don't know if Chevy clutches are for 1-1/8". You might need to Use either a Jeep or Mustang clutch disc, (both are 1-1/8" 10-spline). That fits within the desired chevy clutch pressure plate. For the pilot bearing, Ford T5s have 2 pilot diameters: 2.3 4 cyl. and V8, the small pilot dia. is 0.590" (the same as Chevy V8 and V6.) the large one is 0.668", this is a custom bearing, but available from hotrod parts sellers like Speedway and Summit.
  19. He left the foam, cardboard, and inch-thick bondo in there. On a humid day the car doubles in weight as is absorbs water like a sponge....
