  1. Good job dissuading me from thinking the BMW was a car for those with refined taste.
  2. Shiv sounds better. Shank usually refers to a cut of meat. Funny enough, I just learned "shank" is slang for "shiv." How weird!
  3. As far as I can tell, we have only the claim in the video's description to go from. What other reason do we have to believe that quiet, boring, slow-revving dyno pull was that much power. Let's not forget this is supposedly only a $1000 car.
  4. It's not a joke. It was very hush hush around here for a while and pretty much any time it came up... it felt like a conspiracy in here.
  5. As is commented on the Streetfire site, the guy on the Hayabusa was not at all comfortable with the number of cars ahead of him (they were going ~70 and he was approaching them at over 150mph); he was on the throttle for a long time and it's clearly a good match, but he was shutting down early. You can see he has a nitrous bottle but he wasn't using it. For whatever reason, he wasn't fully tucking and that probably didn't help - you know, he was probably making sure he was watching the approaching cars. That Hayabusa is a low-9 second and possibly high-8 second bike (probably trapping close to 150mph) with a more-than-decent rider and with the spray. I have no doubt the bike would have wasted the Z from a dig. As it is, it was a fair race and it was very close so, yes, the Z is incredible. The bike didn't even jump on him as bikes tend to do - just slingshot off and then get reeled in if it's ever going to happen; Streetfighter was brake boosting big time so never gave the bike a chance.
  6. I guess he didn't make that much power on that run. It sounded like a 130HP non-turbo pull to me.
  7. I've been looking for a ~1998-2002 BMW 3-series but recently started looking at '02 or '03 Lexus IS300's or '03 G35's simply based on what I've been reading about reliability and cost-to-own of the BMW's. I've been reading about it from BMW owners and fanboys on forums mostly. I have no illusion about the BMW looks and that 740 is no different - they generally look incredible.
  8. It certainly is not my cup of tea. Someone phrased it best when they said something about the car being far less because most people aren't going to have the same taste in mods as this guy and they take into account how much it will cost to change it. In my opinion, we're looking at a real value of $18k someone might be willing to pay for something as unique as that but, since he's not likely to find a buyer that wants exactly that but does want a Z in good shape and has similar qualities, he can expect closer to $13k or $14k.
  9. Crazy! That looks a lot crappier from the rear than I would have imagined. There's some Italian car from the 70's it makes me think of - maybe a DeTomaso or some Lamborghini.
  10. He has too many awesome cars and he can drive them all. I don't even go by his shop anymore because it just makes me care too much about money! I talked to SW (Sriantha Weersar) a couple Saturdays ago when he came out in his Ford GT - it was funny knowing he was in a 600HP streetcar and wasn't the fastest there (unusual) because 1.) the 2JZ'd 300ZX was there and 2.) SW rolled up with another Ford GT that was twin turbo'd and making around 1200HP. He was all about having a little fun on the highway, but no one was really interested in getting wasted by him.
  11. That doesn't sound right. I think what you meant is that it doesn't require a case ground. It's an electrical device so you can be sure one of those wires that plugs into it is a ground. Further, it could be possible to have bad connections (shorts) in your case which are acting as grounds; your ECU may technically need a case ground but it's been substituted when unbolted by the aforementioned shorts.
  12. Ha! Nice, Justin! I was wondering when someone would post up with their own copies. Thanks.
  13. For the record, I never pretended to know how it works. Given the plumbing pictures, my statement was accurate that exhaust often goes through the small turbo then to the big turbo. Boost Logic's compound setup could be considered a hybrid compound/sequential setup, I suppose, because it is not exactly like the designs used on diesel applications - the two wastegates is what allows the system to keep the boost regulated to low pressures. In fact, I believe they're even using two boost controllers but I don't know exactly how that is handled.
  14. What makes it a good "drift" front end?
  15. That's the deal, though. They tried other ways and this the way that worked. To my knowledge, this is how compound turbocharging works. So far, it seems that "small" turbo is "limiting" streetfighter's car to 706whp. I respectfully say that if you had designed it your way, it wouldn't work.
  16. Better than at-jefft's submission.
  17. The plate I believe you're referring to is part of the crank sprocket, which needs to be aligned for the timing belt. Not a bad idea, but I'd have to do a lot more work than I'm willing to do what I think you're suggesting.
  18. Thanks. I realize it will work because I've seen a running example, but I'd like to know how well and what I'm possibly missing versus a 36-1, for example. Stock tooth-count is 12 on the Toyota crank sprocket. The 2JZGTE uses two cam angle sensors in addition to the crank sensor.
  19. (unwisely posted this in Toyota L6 and waited several weeks with no response) A guy on SupraForums.com is sticking a 2JZ-GTE in his 4Runner and will also be using Megasquirt. Actually he's already got video of it up and running, though not driving. He's using LS2/truck coils and he has modified his stock crank sensor wheel so it's a 12-1 wheel for the stock 2JZ crank sensor to read - he just cut off one of the 12 teeth. I was planning on using the stock crank sensor and the rear cam sensor for TDC per Speeder's note in another thread. Apparently the 12-1 is accurate enough for this guy and I think he's shooting for ~500HP, though I don't recall. I haven't gone headfirst into Megasquirt or standalones in general yet, but I do seem to recall a 12-1 not providing very good "resolution" in lower RPM while the higher tooth wheels (eg 60-2) provide too much feedback at higher RPM. My intention for the near future is to only have an engine that spins to ~6500RPM but may push it to ~7200 or so one day. My post here has a two-fold purpose: 1.) to show others this can be done and 2.) to get some thoughts from the HybridZ perspective. I'll probably go the same route as this guy because it's simple, it works, and I can hit him up for some fuel/ignition maps. I was planning to use the LS2/Truck coils, as well. http://supraforums.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6660578&postcount=103
  20. I'm guessing it won't be any crazier unless you find a way to get traction. You're just burning rubber and not accelerating.
  21. I'm confused by your statement. As far as I know and can see from the picture, it's more accurate to say the exhaust from the small turbo could pass through to the big turbo.
