Dirt Biking, weight loss and the freakin "Nutrisystem" diet...

I like Slick 50 myself. It helps with "cold start up"..... LMAO!!! But then at my age I have to mix in some WD 40 to get things "unfrozen"... -
1 QUICK Z to Run in the " KING of THE STRIP''
Ledphoot replied to 1 QUICK Z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I say go for it !!! Someone will win. Run a fair deal and remember each person you beat you may need later. I know you are a good person so being fair will come easy, but you will need to be a snake when called upon as well. You're only on this earth once so live life to its fullest!!! Best of luck! If Hybridz wants to sponsor I'll chip in!! -
Anyone use a custom turbo setup like this?
Ledphoot replied to TravRMK's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
I dont think I could even consider that as "proto-type mock-up" and I've done some crazy Sh33t in my time...LOL!!! -

When you find these old cars sitting in the weeds NEVER assume they arent for sale. Too many times have asked and been told...NOT FOR SALE only to find 6 months later the car is gone. Ive asked " I thought you werent gonna sell it? and they always answer something like "well, I needed the money now" , or " this guy just kept coming buy and asking and telling me how he wanted to restore it and how much he loved it and blah blah so I let him have it" I now know to have cash on hand so I can close the deal right then and to stop by and nag people every couple of weeks if it is something I really want. And remember, most people dont want to hear you talk like your gonna build a hot-rod or race car. Brag about hat a pretty car it could be, and how you have some great memory of one and it melts them...LOL ! That Mustang is a prime candidate, if it doesnt belong to the business owner ( he probably has the cash to keep it) but the city wont let it sit there forever so who ever owns it will have to move it soon and may need to give up on the project so start asking now if you want to know...

Do get that kind of pearlescence you will have to use base/clear for the shine and depth and a candy or pearl paint for the radiance. You can use a cheaper 2 stage version of say the late 80's Ford Mustang color called "strawberry metallic" ( I dont remember the code)and get a similar color but it will be a metallic rather than a pearl. Getting the clear slick and the metallic even will be the trick to making a 2 stage look good. I wish I had pics to show you as I have used the color several times but it was years ago.

Stay away from the Ford v-6 in the full size anyway. They just dont hold up. Keep in mind an underpowered truck will cause you to drive it harder trying to keep up. So fuel milage actually tends to be worse in real world driving. -
2 year project...from high school to now. *pics*

great job!!!!. It is nice to see the younger crowd doing something other than adding dvd players and 40 speakers to their car. A fartcan muffler dont make it a hotrod...LOL !! A ride you can be proud of that is uniquely yours and NO PAYMENTS!! -

I've noticed with fuel prices here in the US that there are alot of low milage 1-2 yr old trucks on dealers lots. I am a firm beleiver in letting someone else eat the initial depreciation as long as I can document the vehicles history and if possible speak with the previous owner. I love the Fords they are roomy and drive nice. Stay away from the diesels as they are having headgasket issues for the last few years. Dodge builds a good diesel truck but stay away from the gas burners as rear axle and tranny failures are abundant. GM is hit or miss.... 6.0 is problematic. Diesels are pricey to maintain and GM just asks too damn much for what they sell when the quality isnt any better than the other guys! GM is in financial trouble as well so that makes me nervous. If you intend to use this as a worktruck remember when you smack it with something you're loading you'll cringe alot less it your not making a 500-600 payment each month. Toyota builds a good truck but it is pricey as well as are the Nissans. I come full circle back to the Fords if you buy new. I'd take my cash and ride south to the US and pick up an easy to maintain mid 80's-early 90's Chevy 4x4 and bank the rest for Z toys !! Most expensive thing you'll ever have to do to it is rebuild the 700r4 or 4l60e tranny and that's cheap. PS wonder how the old dually motor would roast some rubber in a Z?..LOL -
I know for several years I along with several friends raced the local dirt track circuit. We would paint the lifter valley and the intake bottom with white rustoleum to speed oil return and white would not absorb heat like the bare block or darker colors. We painted the exterior of the blocks and heads with a very light coat of black because it was beleived that black dissipated heat and therefore by spreading the heat over a larger surface area it cooled faster. We used just enough to color because layers would insulate not dissapate. We also would fill the lower portion of the block with "Hard-Blok" to a level just below the bottom of the expansion plugs so it kept heat away from the oilpan and stabilized the block against vibration and coreshift while still maintaining a cooling system. We never painted the aluminum surface of an intake on the outside (top) because it seals the pourous aluminum and keeps it from cooling as quickly. We also always wrapped out headers in heat wrap to keep more heat in the pipes to speed up the exhaust gas velocity which in turn also pulled heat from the cylinders faster. I don't have control data, but I do know all of us that seemed to follow this design always ran cooler and had better longevity at the track. This was all before the new "coatings" were so readily available. I remember when Jet Hot coatings first appeared and it cost more to coat a set of headers than many of us had in our engines...LOL !

How about your GF? did they offer anything for her or is she gonna pursue it? $6200 not bad at all for a worn out dually. I've seen some decent gas fueled duallies here in the southern US for 5-6 k.

I dont understand it myself either. Bearings are suppose to be the sacrificial part of the engine. I've never seen this on an American made engine. I've scrapped alot of Isuzus with trashed cranks due to endplay wear but this is a new issue for me with US made. BTW : fair price on the crank but I'm gonna go ahead and do a 383 forged 10-1 vortec head motor and stick a 150 shot on it.

Cruez, Sounds to me like you may have gotten caught in the age old trap of slowdown cutbacks. Sometimes employers will seize an opportunity to get rid of someone that is no longer needed or can be replaced at a much lower payscale. They get rid of you and owe you nothing that way and all the while make it look like it is your fault. I live here in NC too and I know in most cases Unemployment compensation isn't too hard to get so that may be of some comfort but I know paying COBRA fees for insurance is a bitch! You might consult with a lawyer but I doubt it will float. If the lawyer won't take it on a percentage then they don't think they can win. Now might be a good time to jump into powdercoating full time. Find some of the Bike salvage yards around the state and grab some popular parts and coat them and make them available on Ebay or at some of the dragstrips and shows. I don't know how large the parts are you can do but Reraend covers for the 8.8 Ford and 10 bolt GM rears are popular too as well as chevy v-8 and VTEC honda valve covers. Buy a few at the salvage yards and see if they sell as well... breathers , airboxes and perhaps there are some marine applications you can find and focus on. I'll put the word out here in Eastern NC... Grandma always said " For every door that closes, a window opens..." Maybe this is karma giving you a nudge toward independence

I have a hard time beleiving people would show up to race for the other guys car, and then be so unprepared. Dead batteries, shotty wiring and so much BS.... I don't even take my streetcar to the dragstrip without a good once over to check things out and I'm just racing for trophies and chump change... No way would I embarrass myself and my crew losing over a wiring short or an untuned car I JUST finished last night... PLEASE!!! what a bunch of crap!! And NITROUS should be settled before anyone agrees to race on the show..either with or without PERIOD!! I thought the whole idea behind Pinks was cool at first but after seeing so many whiny as so called "adults" it just got old. I like the ALL OUT shows... but I would like to see some 11-12 second guys get their chance too....

man is Limewire hating me....LOL so many cool tunes...some even I have never heard of!

Progress!!! Kudos! I tore down my supposedly good running 350, that I myself HEARD run well with the intentions of doing a ring n bearing job and slap on some Vortec heads and a few basic goodies and lo and behold!!!.... I had enough end play in the crank to gouge out the rear main and one rod bearing had just begun to spin in its journal !!! So..crank is junk, one rod is junk so I said SCREW IT! and ordered a 383 stroker kit! Thats what I really wanted anyway but just couldnt justify waiting for the machine work and spendidng the extra money.... Guess I'll have to make do...LOL!
