Barry Grant inline carb for chevys
Ledphoot replied to Z-Dreamer's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I've been wondering if those Percy adjustable blocks were any good... Thanks Grumpy..as usual, I agree with you.. -
Just pull it off and wipe it down with paint thinner or prep solvent. The powder coater will take care of any other prep to get the best finish.. If you decide to paint it you'll need to scrub it with a scuff pad or fine steel wool. Wipe it down with thinner or prep solvent. Spray it with a self etching primer and then Satin black. But no matter how you paint it, it will not hold up like powdercoating.

Need Advice: Driving a 35 Year old Car Cross Country 1776 Miles
Ledphoot replied to JSM's topic in Non Tech Board
Last time I had someone I didnt know personally "look" at a car for me...the bastard bought it!!! But then we don't do things like that here, do we guys!!! DRIVE IT DRIVE IT DRIVE IT...If its worth buying it'll get ya home!!! -
Yes if you have the boat engine to rob the specifics off of.. Waterpump, exhaust etc and it uses the same rotation engine as a car you can use a car engine. I had a 5.0 85GT motor in one of my old runabouts. I even kept the fuel inj and computer. I did change to a COMP CAMS boat cam grind.

Need Advice: Driving a 35 Year old Car Cross Country 1776 Miles

Keep it cool and keep it lubed... I'm sure you planned an oil change and tune up when you got it home anyway so figure on doing it before you drive it home... If it has been as well care for as you say I'm sure you'll be fine.. I bought a brand new Taurus for my wife last summer in TN, had 12 miles on it when I left the dealer. I popped a head gasket in the mountains and ended up raising hell with the dealer until he offered to retract the contract completely. My Mom bought a new Buick in 2002 and drove it 44 miles before the tranny quit pulling... After 2 attempts they couldnt get it right and replaced the car. Doesnt matter how old something is.... But I bought a 74 260 in SC that had been sitting in a backyard for 3 yrs with over 200k miles on it. I drained the tank, changed the oil and pulled and cleaned the carbs and plugs, replaced the water pump and drove it 515 miles to TN with no brakes except the emergency brake... Like many said... Get AAA, they will cover towing and more if you run into trouble and make it an ADVENTURE!! -
I wish I had the cash to make a good offer on the Falcon.. I love old Falcons and that bigblock in the right hands could be a good 1/8mi torque monster for here in NC.. I watched the show and it looks like Jon was the man! Even if Shean had had his "poop in one pile" he couldn't get it done.... That's 1QUICKZ..!!! LOL

No offense but you can buy a pretty nice "runner" for 1800-2400 in the Southeast.. I think he owes you the parts and $1000 for misrepresentation. Do you BOTH have a copy of the bill of sale stating "gift"? You can always "loose" yours and deny knowing anything about it. Or just tell the judge the truth and he can deduct the tax from the settlement...

sounds like a small claims case to me. maybe Judge Hackett or Judge Judy...LOL Seriously... I'd take em to small claims. The paperwork speaks for itself, no lawyer needed....

There is only one Z site... and this is it. All others are just a place for kids and kid minded to act stupid and bitch about things they can never understand. I admire that as long as the topic is "gearheaded" someone is always willing to share even if it isn't Z related. Thats why I'm still here... Keep up the good work... and as far as the other sites... %% em!! -
I do a ton of business on Ebay. My wife even made me a sticker for my Dragcar window that says Powered by EBAY....

I swear Grumpy, you and I have alot in common... I got my first shot gun, a .410 single at 5yrs and used to shoot crows out of the Pecan trees for my Mom. Then I got a .22 Marlin at 8 and a 20ga pump and a 30/30 when I was 11 and went hunting BY MYSELF all over the farm in SC growing up. I always knew what to do and how to handle a weapon... I can't IMAGINE giving a kid that age a gun and no supervision these days... Evil Knievil Canyon Cycle. Had the wind up wheel and then launch! Legos before they came as "kits".. you built what you wanted not what they were designed to be... Lincoln Logs and Water Rockets And just plain good old SAND we would cast into little building blocks with tin cans and plastic boxes our fishhooks came in. Then we would play GODZILLA and destroy the cities we built !!! And dont forget FIREWORKS!!! Back when you could do some serious damage!!! I even had the Evil Knievel 10 spd bike... it was red white blus and silver with stars and his signature sewn into the seat... I wonder what that would be worth now.....

You can still file with Paypal. The proof is up to the seller. If they dont file a claim with FEDEX you can get a paypal judgement against them and you are covered by Paypals insurance..

Grumpy is right. Tri power = big bucks to make it work right these days. I had a set on a Pontiac that I had to do alot of work to get right and had alot of money in them 20 yrs ago when parts were still plentiful.... If your going for looks you'll need to go dual quad. Just know the power will suffer BADLY under 3500 rpm and torque will be practically non existent. Even with dual 390 Holleys you'll have to match carefully to get it to do anything less than embarass you off the line... Build a street motor for torque.. 2500-6000 rpm. Run a dual plane high rise manifold and hide the single carb under a trick breather setup and dress it all up for WOW factor. Then when its time to put up or shut up your not accused of being a NO GO SHOWBOAT!... Just my opinion... Stick the tri power on Ebay for the Rat Rod boys. They will stick 2 junk carbs on each end blocked off and a good 2bbl in the middle... just for looks... and you can too if you really want the look.... Make sure that middle carb is an old high CFM 2 bbl like the 455 Buicks or Pontiacs... I think you can get 450cfm out of some of them... but thats still shy for a small block chebbie....

Thanks Grumpy, I definately trust your experience..!

Thanks Ice... I'll add that to my list for comparison..

Ok heres the deal. I'm not new to engines but I am new to newer technology. here's what I have.... Chevy 355ci non roller engine, flat top pistons ( about 10-1 compression), Vortec heads 64cc chamber 170cc intake flow volume with 1.94 1.50 valves, match ported only. I have a th350 trans with 2200-2400 stall. 1 5/8 full tube headers. Edelbrock RPM dual plane airgap intake, MSD hei distributor. Holley 750 dp and "red" fuel pump. 3200lb car. 4.10 gear 28' tire ( non Z ...have to sell the Z body 2 back surgeries and 350lbs cant climb in and out of it anymore.. I know Vortec heads have unusual needs/limitations. I have had the machine work done for up to 510-525 lift. I have read there is little benefit from increasing valve size or heavy porting, so I decided to match port and leave heads alone. Now I have to figure out a cam that will work well with the torque curve and keep pulling to 5000. The 2 cams I have come up with are these.. Lunati Voodoo I489/E504 I227/E233 on 110 lobe center Comp Cams Xtreme I487/E490 I230/E236 110 lobe center will this be enough cam/too much? Am I on the right track? I'm thinking the lift is peaked for the limited flow of the head design and the duration will give me good volume without killing the torque... any help is always appreciated!!!!!!

Watch how you run the cable on those shifters. Slow turns are a must. I know you would think a cable would make a pretty good turn but on some shifters it just wont do it. I had to reroute my Quicksilver twice before I got it right. Doesnt hurt to load em up with graphite lube too while they're off. Just thought I'd share..

NO NO NO!!! sorry..... but you cant start mixing automotive style additives in industrial paints. Industrial paint such as rustoleum is oil based enamel. Automotive Acrylics are not compatible... any additive for Acrylics cant be used...

I got married in 2000. I had purchased my home in 1997 and continued to make the payments in my name from MY SEPERATE ACCOUNT. When my ex and I started having issuses she said my not trusting her was one of the problems and I should refinance in both our names. Luckily I didnt and in late 2002 when we divorced she tried everything in the book to use HER 3 kids and her job cut backs to try to take my house. My lawyer said my keeping it seperate was the key to my keeping it. So even in a Married situation I managed to save my house... BTW: I actually spent alot of time and patience to find my house. I watched obituaries in my town and looked up addresses on Google hoping to find a property being sold by family of the deceased. Often you can get a good deal when siblings are fighting for cash!!! I even got the 84 El Camino, most furnishings, dishes etc and all appliances in the deal. I bought in 1997 and sold in 2004 for 39k over purchase price. I sold the El Camino for $3500 in 2001 after painting it myself.
