  1. Wicked John. What is the plan? Street? Track? Both?
  2. The 'quick' steering knuckles are not from a 510. They are 1970 240z OEM parts. Steering effort was too high on those cars so they went to longer knuckles on the 240z after 1970. I am not 100% certain when the crossover date was.
  3. 1972 240z - L28 turbo, R200, heavy recaro seats, 4 point roll bar, etc. 2420lbs with just over 1/4 tank of gas. Starting to lighten it now... we'll see where it goes from here.
  4. You're a glutton for punishment!
  5. I've been having trouble getting ahold of him too this past week or so.
  6. Yup, I've done it. Lots of great spots to mount a switch so that it's in reach of the drivers seat, but not obvious you are flicking a switch. Not going to tell you where mine is though! It's a nice bit of peace of mind, expecially when leaving the car for any extended length of time. A quick switch flick that is discreet would be better than messing around under the hood... you can do it EVERY time you get out of the car, and even if the thief is watching you he won't see what you are doing. (unlike popping the hood and taking a wire... he could always reconnect the coil and drive away on 5 cylinders if he knew what you were doing)
  7. Man, what an ordeal. I'm certainly going to think twice before I order a cam from them...
  8. I would change my oil... you can't really change it too often. Is your drain plug magnetic? If not, stick a rare earth magnet on your filter and run the engine for a little bit before you do your oil change. I'm not sure how normal it is... I haven't seen it before like that, but it doesn't entirely surprise me either.
  9. Their site isn't really very well organized... in fact it's about the worst site I've ever seen.
  10. Woohoo! It's about time! We need some photo updates too.
  11. The dyno in question is in Washington state, the company is called Horsepower Connection. The owner, Brian Macy has a wicked Nova, and they do a lot of very high power forced induction drag cars. http://www.horsepowerconnection.com/
  12. Going too far towards a political discussion. Linking news articles is one thing, but discussing the future/believed punishment of war criminals doesn't really slide. Sorry guys.
  13. Argh... just figured it out and I am going to end up working 95 hours this week. 2:30am now, and I've been working since 7am this (yesterday) morning.... back to work at 7am. On the bright side, this weekend involves some autoX action, which is a great release!
  14. 10.8" diameter or so. Covered in a few previous posts. Just FYI, mocked my 4x4/vented swap up tonight with my snowflake wheels. I will need a 3/8" wheel spacer to use the wheels without any grinding of the calipers. The brake clearance on the snowflakes is brutal. I could probably use a 1/4" spacer if I was willing to grind the fins/ribs off my calipers... I figure they are there for stiffness reasons, and it doesn't seem like the proper solution to me at this time. New wheels are in the works anyway, and I expect they will offer up a lot more brake clearance when I get them.
  15. I think it's just in my nature. When I was in university I was doing 55-60 hours of class work/labs/homework a week (full engineering course load) and also averaging 35 hours a week on FSAE over a 2 year period.
  16. 40-45 hours a week at my day job, including a few 55 hour weeks. 20-30 hours a week at one of my businesses, including a few 40 hour weeks. 5-10 hours a week at my other business. Been doing that for about the last year and a half. That's not even counting my commute which works out to about an hour each way. I've had 2 days off since New Years, and typically get about 1-1.5 every couple months.
  17. You know Paul, I feel the same way about MSD stuff. I use it on my own car, only because I owned it before I had seen so many fail. I wouldn't choose to run an MSD brand box on any car knowing what I know now. I've had drag cars on the dyno with brand new, fresh out of box MSD ignition boxes causing huge issues, replaced them with another brands box and the cars have run flawlessly without any other changes. That's enough to make up my mind.
  18. Hey Jamie, are those the classic datsun ZG flares? They look sick. What are the wheels sizes? You realize Mike, you are going to have to buy some of those wheeels now.
  19. The problem is that few cars come to us with reasonable starting points! However, I would suggest if dyno tuning a carb'd car you have a wide selection of jets and a means to adjust timing. We simply use the wideband in the tailpipe/header for our setup, which will give you an indication of balance between airflow and fuel flow, combining that information with the torque reading can basically give you the same information as a fuel flow gauge and airflow gauge. We also can log manifold pressure, air temp at the carb, etc. Not terribly useful on an NA car to log the MAP however... it can show other problems. (car not going to WOT, etc.)
  20. Honestly everyone, we are all better off having representation from our vendors on this forum, to share information with and ask questions to. In the end, it will lead to a more educated vendor and a better product. No need to rag on the guy because his product isn't what was expected. I am not saying anything good nor bad about the product, I have no experience with Spec clutches. But don't kick him out of our sandbox just because he is associated with a product that failed. I am sure in the end, spec can learn from this and product a better product. Yes posts like this can severely hurt their reputation, but if they are unaware of the problem then it's hard to fix it. Judge them by how the act when told about the problem, not only by the problem alone.
  21. In my experience you have to make them... If you find a source for these that are stocked and on the shelf please post it up.
  22. Totally disagree with the SU thing! But then again I haven't worked on the british ones.
