Most cops like to track down hit and run drivers. However MOST people think that THIER problem is the only problem that a cop has to work on or should be concerned with!
I was almost got killed by friendly fire on Friday night by a Georgia State Patrol Trooper! He was involved in a chase and pitted the vehicle as they came up behind my traffic stop location. No we did not get an advanced warning that the chase was about to enter our jurisdiction. Anyway after the trooper spun the car, he attempted to rush in and get the guy out of the car. The guy floored it running over the troopers foot in the process. Well the trooper opened up on the guy and emptied his magazine (15 rounds) down range.
Myself and my rookie (trainee) were sitting ducks! Bullets were flying everywhere.
So get off the cops backs, most people would not think of doing our job but are oh so quick to criticize us for not seeming to be enthusiastic on a hit and run investigation.
By the way, I have in my glove box in my patrol car a side marker lens from an early 80's model Chevrolet Cavalier that committed a hit and run accident two weeks ago. Everytime a blue cavalier passes me while I am on patrol I look to see if it has the broken side markers. So don't tell me we aren't smart enough or don't care because we do!
