Chas why are you and me up so damn late! My god brotha it is 3:31am. lol I woke up with a severe case of heartburn and couldn't go back to sleep that is my story. Yep I'm with ya on the wiring diagram. If and when I get mine hooked up some day I vow never to leave another 280 owner hanging in the wind with this question. I have to climb back in the sack so I can get an early start on my Z in the morning.

Uhhh I wouldn't call him an outlaw that would be giving him to much respect. Thug comes to my mind as the perfect term to describe this jack hole. And whats with lil sis, "it's just for decaration yo, that's all it is!" Yeah right.

Ahhh yes Chas the dreaded wiring question for the 280Z pops up again with hardly no one answering your questions. I have asked this question on here before with very limited responses. And my friend you are exactly right, the JTR book shuns the 280Z when it comes to pictures and descriptions of the wiring process. The 280 and the 240 have different wiring harnesses but all the pics in the JTR manual are of the 240! This is why I may go to a painless wiring harness when it is all said and done. However, on a bright note, the wiring can be done in the 280 because I have seen it with my own eyes once! There is a guy in Douglasville named Daryle, "Georgia Z" I think that is his name on this site, that has a 75 280z with a running V-8 and he used the Datsun wiring harness. But I haven't heard anything from him since we went down to visit a month or so ago. Good luck my friend.

Say I have a rolling 240 and $1200...

If I had it to do over again here's what I would do. I would go one of two routes. #1. I would buy a V-8Z that someone has already started. Or that someone has at least got the engine and tranny in the car and running. I would then start fixing up all the other stuff like the suspension and brake upgrades, interior etc. You could pick up someones project for chicken change compared to what they had already spent on it. #2. I would buy a Z that was running so that I could at least drive it while I worked on the body/paint and did the interior and other mods. Mine was a Rolling car sorta when I bought it. The inline 6 did not run good. -
The air chisel will not scratch the interior primer either and it will also take you about three hours to get all of it done. As far as using the pressure washer on the undercoating goes, I tried that last summer and only the weak undercoating flew off. The rest of it would not budge.

Man if I have said it once I have said it a thousound times on this site, Griemann that is one beautiful ZX8! Oh and by the way this is my 400th post
-
I agree with Davy. I bought one for an 80 ZX (red interior) and I won three trophies with that car and that dash cap at three different shows! You really can't tell the difference.
-
Use an air chisel, it will knock the stuff off in chunks! I assume you are talking about the rubber stuff on the floors of the interior? I took mine off quickly with the air chisel. Make sure you wear eye protection because the chunks will fly towards your face often smashing against the glasses!

LOL, ok Tim, yep if you are still in the same state you are probably right. Like I said though it may also have something to do with you being a juvenile at the time I hate Juveniles lol. Here is a little example of how Juvenile Court works: I worked an accident once were a 16 year old kid jumped a set of train tracks near his house and went airborn in his little compact car. He flew about 40-50 feet, if I remember correctly, and landed off the roadway headon into an embankment. The impact threw his friend through the windshield! I charged the Juvenile with reckless driving and too fast for conditions. Now you would think that the kids parents would be furious at thier son for driving in this manner. Nope. They showed up at court, months later, with pictures showing the train crossing and how there wasn't a stop sign there and on and on and on. I tried to explain that regardless of the fact that the stop sign was missing, the kid went over those tracks everyday to go into town! So he knew the tracks were there and he was going way too fast in the first place. The judge decided to reduce everything to a warning and the kid got off! Luckily his friend only received minor cuts and bruises in the accident. Again I hate juveniles!

I do not think that you would have to re weld the stainless trim back on because it is secured by clips. Now like Tim said the roof would have to be welded back together if you cut off the drip rails under the stainless piece. I personally will not reuse the stainless trim but I will not cut off the drip rail either. I will just leave it like it is and paint.

That is goin to be one bad Z!!! -
LOL oh MR. Longfellow, you have not been on this board long or you would not ask such a question I only paid $100.00 for my Z but I already have way more than that invested and it is not even close to running yet. By the way did you read the first post in this section? If not I suggest that you go and read it. Very helpful and it will answer most if not all of your questions regarding the V-8 swap. Oh and I should say Welcome to our little spot on the web! Hang around and you will find out that everyone here is very helpful. Use the search function from time to time and try to find some answers to questions that way. Good luck with your project.

Tim you may want to check your PA driver's license status. You may find that you are suspended in that state. Maybe not but I know here in GA you will be suspended for not appearing for a trial. The bad thing is if you ever got pulled over and some cop found out that you were from PA and ran a license check on you through that state and it shows you are suspended, you can still be charged for driving on suspended license. Even if you have a valid license through another state. Some places even take out warrants for your arrest for not showing up at court. Wait, you said you were 16. Uhhhhg the dreaded juvenile! We as in Police, can not stand dealing with juvies! Usually because the juvenile judges are way too easy on them and the paper work is hellacious! So I would say that being you were 16 at the time everything is probably ok. Besides no police jurisdiction would extradite you back for a warrant that old especially if you were that far away.

That is why I stay far away from the ole Z car.com site now days.

Very funny stuff, had me laughing after working 12 hours and driving another 45 minutes to my house,

Amen brother!

My goodness I remember those things, too cool, blast from the past

Ahh yes the DUI driver. I worked for over two and a half years on the DUI task force and I gotta tell ya there is no better feeling in the world than locking up drunks and taking them off our streets. It is amazing what some of these idiots will do. They put everyone's life in danger everytime they take to the streets. Man .26 BAC, that is toasted! He got what he deserved. Too many of these people get away with what they do and never pay the price. Good job

Holy Moly! Talk about a crammed engine bay.

I was wondering about that new little pic because when I check this site from my email I never see it, however, when I come to the site manually I see it everytime. I will be off Monday and Tuesday so I will mess with the pump more on those days. I will be able to give you guys the full report on how and if the original bracket will work. I will also be going to Advance and Auto Zone to see if I can round up some new vent lines for my fuel tank.
-
Great news guys! I just went out and took the rubber insulated mounting loop off my old pump and I think that it may be a perfect fit for the Carter! I will have to work with it on my next couple of days off to be sure but all indications look good. Of course now I will want to buy a brand new Datsun mount On a side note, can anyone see the new pic at the bottem of the message? I uploaded it to this site and then used it but I am not sure if anyone else sees it.
-
Thanks, I was going to look at the original pump mount today, if I have time, to see if the rubber mount could somehow be used on the Carter. I will probably mount the pump using the original metal plate that hangs down in the rear using the new mount that came with the pump also. Reason being is I think that mounting it behind this plate will also give some protection from objects flying up from the roadway. I will go out and remove the old rubber mount from my old pump and see if it can be used in any way. Also Ryan I noticed in the pics on your web site that you also purchased the painless wiring harness with your pump. Can I just use the original wires that are already there at the pump?

More Foolishness From Street Racing......Video Inside!
Georgia Flash replied to slownrusty's topic in Non Tech Board
Back in 1972 when I was in the second grade my dad had a 1968 SS Camaro and used to street race people all the time. He did it with a Pabst Blue Ribbon in one hand and me and my little brother in the car no less! There was no such thing as "buckle up kids" seatbelts, what the hell were they for! We would cheer him on as he was shifting gears and beating another local car into the ground. Street racing has been around for a long long time and it will always be a part of growing up. Ahhhh memories...like the corners of my mind... -
Hey Ryan, got my pump from Jegs the other day and I have a question. Did you mount the pump bracket to the existing housing that hangs down in the back of the Z? Or did you just mount the Carter pump bracket somewhere near the tank and disguard the Datsun mount all together? Do you have pics of the instalation?

Why some people shouldn't be allowed to touch tools!
Georgia Flash replied to 80LS1T's topic in Non Tech Board
LOL I call that growing pains. If I had the time I would scan you a pic of the 1973 Ford Pinto that I had for my first car. Yes I spray painted the hood with black paint, did some cool looking spray paint around the head lights (black) and painted some cool silver stripes below the doors (rocker panels). Now that was back when I was just a toddler in the automotive world and I would never do anything like that now. Hey wait I did use some spray paint on my rear suspension just the other day, lol. All I'm saying is yes some people do stupid things, but hey WE ALL do stupid things it's just important to learn from your mistakes. By the way my little Pinto was very fast when I painted the hood black and tinted the windows myself .......Not!
