Would have hated to been a passenger in the Focus on that night!

Again!!!! If you haven't walked in the shoes then do not be critical Go out and ride with a cop once in a while and see the $hit we put with day in and day out! Most departments have ride-a-long programs go do it and I will promise you that you will look at the police in a different light. Now I will stop watching this thread after I post this because I do not need to get my blood boiling this early in the morning after working all night! I come here for some advice and to give a little advice, not to slam on anyone's profession. I just find it odd that so many people seem to know exactly what a cop is thinking or doing when they themselves have not a clue! Come out and ride sometime. The people who do always walk away saying "wow you guys deal with crap like that all the time?" Nuff said!
-
Yeah LockJaw try that one on me sometime. See if it works. I seriously doubt it! HA HA HA There is one thing that most cops can't stand and that is someone who wants to be a smart ass on the side of the road. Keep in mind that you probably aren't the only person that he has dealt with on a given night. We see all kinds of people who want to say that they were not speeding or they did not run the red light or stop sign or "officer I only had two beers." To put in simple english we get tired of hearing all the crap that some people come up with. Everybody has an excuse these days. Now I can't speak for all Police Officers but I will say this about writing speeding tickets. If I catch you for speeding, you were speeding. I have not had a speeding ticket that I made on radar go to court for the 10 years that I have been running radar. That speaks volumes because I have seen other officers live inside the court room on speeding cases. Just remember one thing, the police are not your enemy. There are some pretty nice guys and gals who patrol our streets to make them safe for you and me, and who take a lot of crap from the public and news media. We do more than write tickets so come walk a mile in our shoes before you slam dunk the police. Be nice and see if that works.

Thanks Racer X, I will probably spray the engine bay with a low gloss black over the POR-15. I will post some pics on my web site once I get the stuff and begin working on it.
-
I remember those talking lady things were cool for about the first 5 or 6 times that you heard them and then they would get old real fast! I had a friend, when I was stationed at Ft. Benning in the 80's, that had a Chrysler Laser with one in it and she was a biatch to listen to all the time.
-
Well I finally bit the bullet and ordered some POR-15. I got the starter kit and figured I would try it out on the engine bay and front frame rails of the unibody. If it works like everyone says it does I will probably be ordering some more of that black magic paint

Ditto on the last post! Look at the car closely or you may regret it later

Man that is one tough looking 69 Camaro in that pic! -
Thanks guys. I decided to use a short piece of fuel hose for now with a smooth piece of round metal that has a flat head on it pushed down inside the pipe. I placed a clamp on it to hold it in place. It will be a little while before I put any fuel inside the tank so I will not know if it will leak or not. The Carter fuel pump that I ordered looks right at home using the old Datsun fuel pump mount turned on its side. I will upload pics to my yahoo web site in a few to show the mount with the Carter pump on it.
-
I will not be using fuel injection. I will be using a carbed Chevy 350 So therefore there is no need for the return line.
-
Hey guys, I am trying to get my fuel tank back in the car today and I need to know something fast. I will not be using the return line on my Z so I was wondering is there a way to seal off the return line nipple coming out of the tank (75 280Z). I do not want to weld it because I would probably blow me the garage and the house to kingdom come! I thought about JB weld or even cutting a small piece of rubber fuel line and clamping a 5/16 bolt into the rubber tube. Any ideas? Oh yeah, I do not care if this thread gets moved to the fuel section later but we all know that if you want your post to be seen by all, this is the place to post it. And I need a quick answer to this delima.
-
I am smack dab in the middle of putting my fuel tank back on my 75 as we speak! I found the return line, which goes to the fuel tank, to be clogged with rust and debris. The main line however is pretty clean. My Z has sat for a long time since I have owned it and it sat for about 5 years before that. I looked at the old stock pump yesterday and pulled off the cover that the inlet pipe goes to. It has a small plastic thing on the inside that was clogged almost shut! Check this out if you plan on using the pump again. I will be using the Carter pump that I purchased from Jegs. I should have pictures to show you guys later tonight when I come in from working on it. I will not be using the return line anymore so I was wondering how can I block off the line that goes into the tank? Anyone know?

Haha I knew he screwed up the first time I saw it. When you run something with no reserve man you are taking a big chance. I have seen guys with mint 67-69 Camaros run there cars with no reserve though with no problems. I saw a sharp black 69 Z28 go for over 30,000 dollars on ebay once. Glad the Z guy figured out what he did wrong. Maybe he was watching this thread, who knows. -
That would be cool, only thing is my car is in Silver Creek, GA where I still live. It's about a 45 minute drive from my house to work in Acworth everyday. What county is your wife from? Cobb, Bartow, or Cherokee? Acworth addresses are in all those counties. I work for the city PD which is in Cobb CO.
-
Nah not a trooper, but I have been a Po Po for about 12 years now. Worked in Rome for most of those years and have been in Acworth since August. Saw a burgundy V-8 Z when I first started working there. It was at a traffic light and I was going in the oposite direction. If I had been on my own I would have turned around to talk to the guy. I haven't seen it since so he was probably just passing through.
-
That would be great! Uh I guess I would drive the wife's Maxima to the meet though or maybe my Prerunner. But it would be great to see some of the hybrids up close and personal.

I have heard folks on this site refer to the little Z often as rust prone. Let me just say this about my little experience with rust on cars. My doner car for the 350 was a 1975 Camaro. My Z is a 1975. The Camaro had 100 times the rust that my Z has! Both cars are southern cars. So I just think that it depends where and how the car was kept over the years. By the way my Z sat unattended with the hatch window broken out for for 5 years. -

Yep no title doesn't mean a thing here in good ole GA for a car that old. I was just saying that he didn't set a reserve price for his car that he is wanting at least 2,500 for according to his write up. He may be parting ways with the Z for a whole lot less money than he wanted to. Either that or he may just refuse to sell the car at the end of the auction which isn't good if you want to keep selling on ebay. Oh well, if it were closer to me I would love to take a look see at it. LOl but yall know the last ebay V8Z I went to look at was less than impressive. -
Careful who or what you call stupid Some of us are a little smarter and wiser than you might think.
-
Rome GA area, Silver Creek, but my Z is far from running right now. Hopefully if all goes as planned though by August it will be!
-
Check this out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2411021660&category=6187 If I looked at this right the guy did not place a reserve price on his V-8Z and it is only up to around $450.00 with just three days to go! At the bottom of his ad it says something like "5000 invested only looking to get half that" He will be lucky to get 500 at the rate it's going. If I were close to this car I would have to go and check it out.

You have a private message.

Yeah last year at a family pic nic I was playing a mean game of bad mitton, I know I know don't laugh, and broke my ankle. I guess that is god's way of telling me it is time to stop playing around. What part of GA are you from?
-
In GA, officers can legally stop you and give you a citation if you are going 10 miles per hour over the speed limit. Most of us usually give 15 miles per hour over before we stop someone and give them a ticket or warning. As far as the "speedo isn't working excuse" never use that one for sure. That constitutes an improper equipment violation. And yes I have heard that excuse at least 100 times in 12 years and no I have never ever written a ticket for that. Some over zealous officers might though so be careful. Some of the other excuse I have heard: I have to go to the bathroom My daughter's glasses are broken and she is going blind (this women was driving 95 MPH in a 55 MPH zone with 3 kids in a pickup trcuk!) My car wont go that fast its a VW bug Late for work Tired I'm angry I'm depressed I didn't see you officer or I would have slowed down I was racing and was winning before you showed up! I thought the speed limit was .... My wife's going into labor My wife's sick My kid's sick (this women was going 85 MPH in a 35MPH zone and wouldn't stop for 5 miles until she got to the hospital! the child was running a fever!) The irony here is she passed right by another hospital on the way tp the private hospital! I'm from out of town and didn't know the speed limit here I guess the best thing to do is be honest with the officer. Nothing makes me write a speeding ticket faster than a guy who was clearly in the wrong sitting there trying to make up lies and blaming me for his ticket. Be careful out there.
