  1. Sorry to hear about your wrist problems. Just don't do anything rash about getting rid of your Z. If I were you, I'd have someone build me a really strong auto , and add a high stall converter. Just keep us all informed how you're getting along, and remember we're all behind you. Good luck. Joe
  2. Congratulations! you did it, I'm offended.
  3. It seems to me that all the sanctioning bodies have outlived their relevance. NASCAR with their car or the future (or what ever they called it) has basically turned stock car racing into spec cars. Right down to the brand tires allowed. Smokey Yunick must be spinning in his grave. The NHRA has been going downhill for years. First there was the "Bracket" system where its possible to loose by going too fast. then of course they aklso mandate that fuel has to be bought from their supplier, not to mention the billet block rules for top fuelers. The whole system seems to be built on money, not racing. No wonder old timers call it No Hot Rods Allowed. The IRL is no better than any of the others, Basically, the difference between the Indy cars is the paint jobs. Honda supplies all the engines, and the chassis are also mandated if I remember correctly. The FIA has always been a PITA They seem to think it is their duty to outlaw anything that resembles creativity. If an innovation lets s racer win, instead of letting the others catch up, they outlaw the innovations. This can be seen in the way they killed the CanAm challenge. When Jim Hall became successful using ground effects,(the 2J sucker car) the FIA came up with a rule against movable them. The Porsche 917's were practically unbeatable, so the fuel consumption rules were changed to make them unable to compete. IMHO, these sanctioning groups should control safety standards, but then just get out of the way. After all what is racing without innovation?
  4. Maybe these will be of some help. These are what I did before I lost my mind. I hope this helps. Good luck. Joe
  5. Perhaps I t would be of use to have her read this thread.
  6. Normally I don't care for estate wagons or shooting brakes, if you will, but the Volvo P1800S is one of the sexiest cars ever.
  7. It seems to be a happy car judging by the smile
  8. I have a Jackson NexGen, and I would recomend it highly. It is a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.
  9. Actually, there's more to it than just the cost at the dealer. First there aren't many Z31s or for that matter, JYs around these parts. Second, the electric system doesn't weigh any more than the stock one, and the weight is further back. Weight probably doesn't matter to some but every pound and its location is important in my build. That's why there is a Kevlar/carbon fiber one piece front clip is in the works. And best of all, there is no chance that I'll wake up some morning to find a puddle of electricity under the car.
  10. After the local Nissan dealer told me the price for the high pressure hose for my stock PS, I decided to go the electric route. I'm using the system from a Cobalt. The power assist motor is on the steering column under the dash and doesn't interfere with the legroom. It is connected to a Jaguar power rack, and the first trial (sitting in the garage) it seems to work well. Of course my car is a Z31, so it probably doesn't matter.
  11. Those creeps have been around forever, them and the folks who run with their road lights on. When I was driving my own truck, I had a set of 24 volt landing lights that would make even the stupidest of drivers dim their lights:) I always wondered how someone could spend thousands of dollars on a car without a dimmer switch.
  12. Uh, my bad. Been so long since I've had a sex life that I forgot. I can't even remembeer who wears the handcuffs.
  13. And different paint, and different bodywork, and differeny wheels and tires, and anything else you can think of. No wonder it was named after a condom.
  14. The rules don't apply behind a donut shop.
  15. Try to think about it this way. It cost hardly anything to put it on the net for sale. The price is really high, but in the age of Barret Jackson everyone who has a pile of rust with a hood ornament is worth billions. I just came from the local hot rod show where I saw a ratty Model A 5 window coupe roller (if you could call it that) with no floor, firewall, or front body work for sale for "just" $19,000. Granted, it was in better shape than that Z31, but the idea's the same, and somewhere might be an idiot who will think its a hot deal. Just my two cents, Joe
  16. Years ago I bought a '70 Toronado with the high output 455. After building the transmission, and fixing a bunch of vacuum leaks I drove it for almost a year. An awesome car. Biggest problem was ripping the side walls out of the front tires. I hear a lot of people complain about FWD cars, but that Toro made a real impression on me. Take a bunch of measurements, and if it'll fit I say go for it.
  17. You can't BS me. The first Mexican car was the Adobe. I remember seeing it advertised on Saturday Night Live many years ago. I think John Belushi was the spokesman. One of my all time favorite skits of all time
  18. OMG, Somebody get a real big cork FAST1111
  19. I've had good luck with fastenal.com . . . even if there isn't a local one, the website is pretty good. Reasonable shipping, and they've got just about anything you want, in any grade/finish you want. Might be expensive if you only want a few pieces here & there, though. Usually when I get something, I'll buy a pack of 50 for the same price a local retailer will have for 2. I use Fastenal. I have never needed anything they didn't have.
  20. What, No Z31s??? First, when the engine was in the stock engine compartment. Second same car after a few minor modifications that are still in progress.
  21. I wonder why didn't they use a pair of WV Detroit's. Several years ago I saw an even larger one on a Haliburton pump truck. If I remember correctly it was 12V149. This beast could pump over 4200 gallons or water at better than 10,000 psi. and would make the ground shake noticeably a hundred feet from the well head
  22. Thanks, I hope I'll only have to make one part. I dout anybody else would want a one piece front end for a Z31.
  23. I can't believe its been a year since I updated this thread, but I've been restoring a Porsche that followed me home. I've got the firewall in, and fabbed up the engine plates (aluminum front, stainless steel rear). The electric power steering unit is in place, and the steering shaft has been installed. The roll cage is mostly done, and the floor is welded in. All we need is a much bigger shop, or a few less projects.
