  1. I have an ESAB Migmaster 250 and I love it. It'll do anything, but it wasn't even in the same neighborhood as inexpensive. If you can find one used and have 220, try to find a used Millermatic 35.
  2. The last place I worked where porn may have been downloaded,it wasn't necessary. You just had to look around and you'd see an employee getting screwed.
  3. Turn the wheel all the way to the left. then use a 1/2" driver impact gun and a deep socket. The key word here is impact. Let the wrench rattle first one way then the other. Be patient, and it should work its way off.
  4. Just saying about the brand, you get what you pay for. I've got a forty year old sthil 090. I've had it for over thirty years and it's never given me a bit of trouble. My only complaint is that my old saw weighs about a ton. Granted it is a REALLY big saw (48" bar) But of course trees are bigger here. I'd check out McCullough you should be able to find one with a 16/18' bar for a couple hundred dollars. I see a lot of guys who work in the woods with them.
  5. Nah, this is the ugliest car I've ever seen. Yours just looks like a lot of fun.
  6. The HF is a good option. I just finished doing the chambers on a set of SBC heads and it worked just fine.
  7. Looks to me like you weren't really working out. I think you were dogging it.
  8. So today I'm running the threads in the block before putting on my heads. Grabbed the tap, and stck it in the handle but only fightened it finger tight. I gave it a spin and watched as it screwed through the bolt hole and dropped into the water jacket. I had to pull s freeze plug and fish it out with a magnet. The worst part was haing to drive about ten miles to get another freeze plug. No,wait, the worst part was pulling my head out of my A$$.
  9. My Gawd! Starting a project with a car that most people would sell their souls to own. You are truly amazing!!!
  10. This thread seems to have degenerated into an arguement over teaching technics which isn't where it started at all. There are a lot of people who post stupid questions, (Where do I buy a timing light?) and there is no doubt these are stupid. But this begs the question of just where does stupid end. I've building cars for more than 50 years most of what I know was gained hands on. There was no one to ask, I learned by dragging a pile of tools out and taking things apartit was a process called common sense. I guess that today no one does that sort of thing, and I think that's what John was talking about. Lucky for a lot of us he sets his "thats to dumb to answer" window pretty low, and graciously answers most questions. I just think it would be nice if before posting people could figure out which end of the hammer to hold on to.
  11. My goodness Tony, we certainly are cranky this morning. And to think its just because of a couple (hundred) stupid questions. Oh, by the way, do I meed a special wristwatch to set the timing on a '33 Hudson? (Ducks at the sound of an approaching spark plug)
  12. A while back in a shop around here I saw a 914 that had a 930 in it. I didn't look to closley though because it made my wallet scream in agony.
  13. Hopkins has stated that was his favorite movie role.
  14. I agree!!!!! But it truly understated the real Burt Monro.
  15. Why did they do that? That straight eight is heavier than the Queen Mary, at best only displaced 320ci at best, but most likley 263ci. They only madeabout 150/170 hp and that was wound clear up to 3600rpm. After all that being said, I always loved those engines, and I think this really cool!!
  16. Tony, I've always wondered, does snorting hydrigon make you talk funny (like Helium) or do you just get light headed?
  17. Personally, I'd be worried about hardening and deteriation. But that's just me. I'm running 3/8 stainless, but it is a major PITA to work with.
  18. If I owned either one of those, that would have been a fatal accident.
  19. Happy New Year!! I resolve to never listen to those Mayans or use their stupid calander again.
  20. In Oregon, I had my tube chassis blasted and it cost $100. It seems to me that you were really over charged.
  21. The mag was pulled in the shop and left on the bench. I then went home and spent 4 days with an abcessed tooth. When I came back, it was gone. There are only a couple of people who I think may be responsible. One is a friend who may have taken it home just to screw with me. If that is the case it'll come back next time he comew around. The other is a jerk who I just might go and beat the crap out of just for fun. I guess I should just be glad they didn't get the plasma cutter. I am watching CL, and have the word out with most of the shops in the area.
  22. I pulled the magneto out of my sbc because I needed some space to modify the firewall on the z31, and some body walked off with it. It was a vertex 602X external coil mag with rare earth magnets and dual tach drives. If I replace it with a new one it'll set me back about $1400.
  23. See? This is what JohnC was talking about.
  24. I agree, just boogie down to your local steel supplier and score some rectangular tubing and have at it.
  25. I'm with John. The FSM is the best way to go, but it can be kind of pricey, especially if you need more than one. (In my case: Nissan, Jaguar XJ6 and XJ12, and Chevy Cobalt) That being said, I believe questions easily answered from even a Haynes manual aren't really worth asking again and again. At least grab a wrench and don't ask until you are sure you can't fix your problem on your own.
