  1. I can tell you that John Coffey recommended not running urethane tension rod bushings, only rubber ones. I believe he said that urethane bushings limit the required movement of the tension rod and can damage the tension rod, which makes sense. I don't think running a rear urethane bushing would be as much of a problem if you run the T/C kit, but I would recommend rubber bushings. I installed rubber tension rod bushings in my Z.
  2. I see two reasons why an intercooler on a non-turbo engine will probably not improve hp and may actually hurt it. The reason intercoolers help make more hp on turbo engines is that the air going through the turbo gets heated by the turbo so there is a temperature differential between the charged air and the surrounding air cooling the intercooler. On a non-turbo engine there is little to no temperature differential so no hp gain. The second problem is that the IC and tubing are essentially flow restrictors. This is overcome in a turbo application but not in a non-turbo application.
  3. Right, VG30 swap with a single turbo I believe.
  4. That 240Z is owned by Craig. He is the owner of SimTec Motorsports in Valencia, CA. Here is his shop's site: http://simtecmotorsports.com/ The black and white 300ZX on the website is also his. I believe he is building a similar sheetmetal airdam and splitter on his 240Z as is on his 300ZX. His contact info is on his site.
  5. Mike, Is that gas coming out of the fill tube/gas cap in the photo?
  6. The red 240z in the build competition looked decent. This white one looks horrible. They should have crushed this one.
  7. Great deal on the tail lights and hatch. I saw your last vid, the sound coming out of the RB30/25turbo is awesome. It looks like it is pulling harder than the L28turbo ever did, even after you fixed the spark plug problem. Do you have plans to dyno it soon?
  8. I don't know if you've seen Piston's thread of his 2JZ-GE turbo S30. Nice Z and setup. Very tempting to do on my z if I ever redo my drivetrain. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/109694-vid-of-my-2jz-s30z-with-the-gopro2/
  9. I'm looking for a Treadstone TRV185 or similar with the inlet and outlet on the same side, BOV Super Sound or a similar known brand BOV (don't want a cheap knockoff), 2.5 inch aluminum piping, red silicone hoses, and clamps. Budget is limited right now so i'm trying to find what I need at a discount before buying new. Send me a PM with what you have for sale. Thanks.
  10. I bought a used L31ET with an F54 block. They sonic tested five F54 blocks until they finally found one that they were happy with. Crossing Fingers...haven't ran it yet but has even compression. It sounds like it would be a good idea to have any block that you are planning to use sonic tested.
  11. I was watching the auction with like 20 minutes to go and it was somewhere between 32k-36k from what I remember. Then all of sudden it was at the $200 bid and the auction had ended.
  12. Thanks for the info guys. JSM, I did see that info on the manual but that number is for the non-heated sensor. I'm planning on using a heated sensor. I did notice on the electromotive forum that you can run the analog output from the AEM wideband to the tec2 using a small circuit. I'm going to give that a try.
  13. Great to hear that your Z is no longer for sale. Awesome build.
  14. Miles is right about the unbalanced issue when running the Toyo front setup you mentioned together with the 240SX rear setup. I have read there may be the same issue when running the 280ZX rear setup too. From info posted so far, the Silvermine stage 4 rear kit is the one to run with the Toyo front setup to end up with a brake system that can be balanced using an adjustable proportioning valve.
  15. Can't find a replacement for the Bosch 48617B0 universal oxygen sensor that came with my tec2. The new universal Bosch numbers are different. The old sensor was manufactured in 2002. What is the correct Bosch sensor to use on the tec2? The auto parts store guy said it may be the 15730. Thanks.
  16. These were posted on here a few months ago. Really nice wheels. He may still have them available. You can try emailing him, it looks like he has been offline for 3 weeks. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/105884-ssr-reverse-mesh-17x85-19-fronts-17x9-13-rear/page__p__990569__hl__ssr__fromsearch__1#entry990569
  17. I've searched online and on Hybridz and this is what I have found so far. S13: 89-94 240SX S14: 95-98 240SX S13 and S14 rear calipers appear to use the same brake pads, from online pictures they look similar with some small differences, and rear brake upgrade kits for the 240SX appear to fit both S13 and S14 models. The Modern Motorsports (MM) site indicates to use S13 (89-94) calipers for the swap so these are the ones I currently have. Online info indicates that the S13 calipers have a 34mm piston, and S14 calipers have a 38mm piston. Is this true? Can someone confirm this? Also, has anyone been able to use S14 calipers with the MM kit? If so were any additional mods needed to use the S14 calipers? The only reason I will try to use S14 calipers is if the piston in them is truly 38mm. I measured the S13 piston and it does appear to be 34mm. As long as i'm asking these questions, what is the piston size in the 280ZX and Maxima calipers that are also used in these swaps. I've found too much conflicting info online. Thanks.
  18. This is a long shot here, but I was wondering if anyone has a Silvermine stage 4 rear brake kit that they decided not to use and want to sell. http://www.silverminemotors.com/Stage-4-Rear-Big-Brake-Kit-Stage-4-Rear-Big-Brake-Kit.htm I'm still working on getting my Z running and would like to save some money if possible since I've spent so much already, and the Z-budget is hurting already. Send me a PM if you have one available. Thanks
  19. I also ran into this problem. My end links didn't touch the boots but came very close to touching. My worry was that contact may occur if the boots expand enough with the axles spinning while driving. My fix was to section out 3/4 of an inch from each end of the bar. I cut the sections out about 3-4 inches in from the ends of the bar. I then beveled the cut ends and TIG welded them back together from the center out to achieve full weld penetration. I now have more than 3/4 of an inch of clearance at all times. I believe the welds should hold up but I'll report if I have any problems when the Z is back on the road.
  20. My air filter will be close to the turbo when I get the engine running, but I have thought about moving it too. A colder air intake temp sounds great but was also wondering if you saw a difference in hp and torque during the dyno runs?
  21. ctc, that makes sense to me considering California's smog laws so I edited my post above.
  22. Bloz Up, can you post some data showing before and after moving the intake. I think most of us would be really interested in the results. Thanks.
  23. From my understanding, to keep smog legal status you are only allowed to swap in engines that are: 1. From the same year or newer as the vehicle they are going into 2. Come from a donor car that is California emission approved, so no federal motors (even L28's) are allowed 3. You have to use the smog equipment that was originally installed on the donor engine. I recommend researching what is allowed and not allowed, regarding engine swaps, as part of your planning. RB26, RB25, RB20, S20, SR20DET, to name a few, never came in any vehicle sold in the US. Besides the L28, below are a few good choices, but there are others: 1. 7M-GTE (Supra) 2. 2JZ-GTE (Supra) 3. LT1 (Camaro/Corvette) 4. LS1 (Camaro/Corvette) 5. VQ35DE (350Z) Use the search function on the forum and do some research. You should be able to find most of the info you need.
  24. Cannonball89, Don't change the ujoints in your half shafts if they are original and in good condition! I remember reading that the original ujoints appear to be stronger than any aftermarket ones available. I found the two threads below regarding problems with changing the ujoints in the halfshafts. A Guest posted in the second thread about spicer ujoint failures he has had (posts 1 and 17), similar to what happened to you. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/5109-snapped-another-spicer/page__p__38634__hl__%2Bspicer+%2Bhalf+%2Bshaft+%2Bjoint__fromsearch__1#entry38634 http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/6852-spicer-12-shaft-joints-total-sht/page__p__50506__hl__%2Bspicer+%2Bhalf+%2Bshaft+%2Bjoint__fromsearch__1#entry50506
