Hey Mike...That is awesome power out of that NA L6. Too wild for the street with those specs but incredible non-the-less. I work in Irvine, and I brought my Z to work today. Let me know if you want to meet up today. Email me or post up if you can. Marcos

The following happened before Christmas when I drove my triple carb/280 block 240Z to work. I went to Mexico for the holidays to visit my in-laws. It was a good trip, everyone was really nice. I also saw a silver 2+2 280Z on the highway in Gualadajara. It looked to be in really good condition. Well back to the killing, I mean story. I took one of my buddies for a spin after we pulled out of the gas station. I noticed a mid 90's Chevy Cavalier to my left at the first stop light. Jokingly, I told my friend that the guy in the Cavalier wanted to race me. He said, "Forget him. He isn't worth the gas." When the light turned green, I noticed that the guy in the Cavalier took off kinda fast. The next stop light is about an 1/8 of a mile away so I didn't mess with him. As we pulled up to the red light, my friend tells me to play with him. He said to let him pull away a little, then smoke him. I waited till the light turned green and I heard him take off chirping his tires. I took off and kept my front bumper about even to his back bumper for a few seconds, then I let the cat out of the bag so to speak. I floored the gas pedal and flew by him. I must have been at least 8-10 car lengths in front of him by the time I looked in the rear view mirror. It's really funny when these guys think they can take you on. LOL

Got Insurance money....chicken and egg issue

Does anyone know if there is any way to rebuild SK carbs. I have them on my car and would like to rebuild them soon. It is going to suck if there is no way to rebuild them. Marcos -
I'm with Nion. Buy a second 240 and race it out. Two 240s are better than one. That is what i'm shooting for. A L28 triple carb'ed 240 and a Turbo or V8 240. Marcos

Maybe they took that turbo off a Big-Rig. Should be good for 100 psi. Marcos

Hey Mudge...I have heard the same thing and that you have to use one from a first gen RX7, the one with a carburetor. I also want some more info on this since I am thinking of doing the same swap. Does anyone out there have pics of their setup? Did you run a regulator or return line? How reliable is it? Thanks, Marcos

Syndicate...I sent it out this morning via USPS Priority Mail. I put it into a Priority Mail envelope and it should be there, hopefully by the end of the week. Don't worry about the shipping cost. It's on me. Merry Christmas. Let me know when you receive it to make sure it got there. Marcos

I have been working on my 240Z over the last few weekends, trying to get it back on the road. I have changed and fixed alot of the problems that I found. I worked on it this weekend, when the rain would let me. I finally have the speedometer working with the 280Z guts. I found a torn CV boot. So I have to fix that. I found that when I was filling up the diff with Amsoil gear lube. I had to take off the suspension bracket to fill it up. My Z has a 4.11 diff. I installed an electric fan with the painless wiring fan switch and a Greddy oil catch can to name a few. I filled up the catch can with steel wool. I did that to help get rid of the smell but it still smells. I am probably going to plumb the vent off the catch can into the ITG filter setup. I can't stand that smell and my wife won't want to get near my "Stinky Little Car." LOL Hey maybe that isn't a bad thing... I wonder how you guys with breather filters put up with it. Well I have most everything figured out. I have one question though. I had the car on yesterday to make sure the cooling system worked properly, which it did, and I noticed a problem with the fuel system. The last owner had the mechanical fuel pump running to the triple carbs with no return line. I installed a Holley pressure regulator and fuel pressure guage. The pressure was lowered to 3.5 psi. I was running the car and noticed that the fuel pressure had dropped below 3 psi so I opened up the fuel pressure regulator to see if the fuel pressure would go up. Well it didn't, it kept on going down till aroun 1.5 psi. I turned the car off and back on about 15 minutes later. The pressure was back up and held constant for at least 5 minutes. I turned it off. Does that mean the fuel pump is going bad. Should I drop in a new one or maybe an electric fuel pump. Should I run a return line to relieve some strain on the fuel pump or is that not really an issue. Any ideas? I will post up pics of the car when I have it on the road again, hopefully next weekend. Thanks, Marcos

Hey Syndicate...I have one from a 79 280ZX I use to have. You can have it for free complete with a used sensor(not sure if it works anymore). I live in Los Angeles, CA. Don't know how long it would take to get there. Let me know so I can send it out tomorrow. I can post up a pic of it later tonight if you want, I can't burn daylight right now. I need to work on my 240. Merry Christmas HO HO HO

Same thing happened to the 79 280ZXs that I had everytime I washed the engine. Marcos

I've heard bad stuff about all those additives over the years. I have been using Amsoil in my cars for a few years now and it is the best out there. Long drain intervals and more protection are a few of the benefits. I put Amsoil oil into my 240Z last week and am going to put the gear lube into the tranny and diff today. I am finally getting it back on the road, I haven't used it much since I bought it. A couple of my friends at work have been using it too. One of them just put Amsoil into his 2003 Suzuki Hayabusa (motorcycle oil) and the other one put it into his 2003 VW GTI 337 turbo, both after break-in, and they felt the difference right away. I am not a dealer, I just have a preferred customer membership to get the discounts. By no means am I trying to push it on anyone, but I do recommend it. Marcos

need help wiring MSD tach adapter
Hybrid240z replied to Dan Baldwin's topic in Ignition and Electrical
Anyone have the correct wiring for the 280Z tach into the 240Z. I want to install it this weekend. Ground is the black wire...right? Is the green wire next to the black wire the tach wire? So what is the red wire with the black line? Is that a power wire, ignition wire????? That's all I need if anyone can help. Thanks, Marcos -
need help wiring MSD tach adapter

I have a 72 240Z with a Mallory Unilite distributor. I have a 280Z tach from the Junkyard and am planning on putting it in this weekend. Can someone enlighten me on how to wire up the tach. Thanks, Marcos -
I may want to upgrade the guages next year but have to hold off for now. I would rather buy that tach for $130 than sink $45 into the adaptor but will want to hold off at least till next year. I have a 280Z tachometer that I pulled from the junkyard a few months ago. I've heard that one will work with electronic ignitions. I guess I will just install that one for now. Does anyone know how to wire it or has a link to a site that shows how? Can this be accomplished without taking the dash out? Thanks, Marcos
-
Hey Jim, I have the same problem right now. I installed a Mallory Unilite distributor and my tach won't work anymore. 71 240Z. Do you have part numbers for those Jacobs parts and a simple wiring diagram to show how they are installed. Thanks, Marcos

Check this one out from Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1872141165 The guy has sold a few of them. Looks good but I have been wondering if I want to pay that much for a battery holder. I have seen a couple more on Ebay. Marcos

That's a good one David. I was just wondering if they are planning to motor the whole country out of the way if war breaks out. 1 million hp might do it. LOL

Thanks Mike. Marcos

I was thinking of running the fuel pressure regulator, a fuel pressure guage, and no return line too. What fuel pressure regulator are you using and how do you set it up if you don't run a return line? Is the one from Motorsports Auto any good and would it work with no return line? Thanks, Marcos
-
Bump... LOL
-
Oh yeah, what kind of fuel pressure should I run if I'm supposed to use a fuel pressure regulator. Thanks, Marcos
-
Do you know what kind of fuel pressure the mechanical fuel pump puts out if you don't use a fuel pressure regulator? Would that damage the carbs or make the car run rich? I guess I am not really worried about the return line if not having one doesn't damage the fuel pump. So a fuel pressure regulator is necessary...right? Thanks, Marcos
-
I just had a quick question. I am finally working on my 240Z and am finding problems, but fixing them too. The car has triple SK carbs but the gas tank return line is not connected and it doesn't have a fuel pressure regulator. It is running the stock mechanical fuel pump. Is there supposed to be a fuel pressure regulator and should the return line be hooked up? I need to know fast so I can work on that this weekend. I want to get the car on the road. Also, any recommendations on what fuel pressure regulator to run. Thanks, Marcos
