Well I wish I had known this before but I'm so far in now I might as well keep working with what I have. Derek

Pre heated fluids for first start fresh rebuild
Derek replied to ozconnection's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
Here are some numbers for you. The car has been plugged in for 4 hours so this is as good as it gets for this ambient. Ambient temperature 70 deg F Water temp according to Megasquirt 162F Oil temp measured with Fluke meter with thermo couple in dipstick hole. 100F Valve cover temp measured with infrared 105F I didn't plug it in last night and when I went to start it at 45 deg F it turned over noticeably slower. It also didn't get to operating temp until I was about a 1/4 mile from the shop which is why I did this mod in the first place Derek -
Pre heated fluids for first start fresh rebuild

I'm running that same unit on my car. Although I daily drive my car it's mostly short hops so I use it to warm up the car before I drive it. It's on a timer for the morning and then I keep it plugged in when I'm at the shop. It gets everything warm including the oil. The valve cover is hot to the touch. It's also nice for setting the valves as it keeps the engine at operating temps longer. If you want I can get you a temp tomorrow when it's plugged in. Derek -
I switched every thing over to relays and use the stock switches to run the relays. Huge difference. Derek

Wow thanks. But I'll tell you it's amazing what good equipment can do for you! Well I didn't know you were putting them in a 260. You were smart to withhold that from me. If the panels are useable with minor mods then great. We'll know what it takes to fit the 260/280 cars. If they just won't work and new panels need to be made and you can supply me with the data I need I'll send you the first set of the panels no charge for your time. Let me know if that works for you. Well watch out for Snap On as well. When I was a mechanic (yes we were mechanics back then) I purchased many a Snap on tool. I broke a 1/2" too 3/8" impact adapter a couple of months ago and tracked down my local dealer where I was informed that the warranty was limited (never heard that when I was writing those checks) and he wasn't required to replace it. I took it to a friend of mine who owns a garage and he got it replaced by the same dealer. So The Snap on warranty is lifetime as long as your buying tools and after that your on your own!

I'm doing a production run right now as a matter of fact! I'll have them ready the middle of next week. I'll shoot you a PM when they're ready if you'd like. Now for the bad news. I'm bumping the price up to $110.00 for the pair. If you don't want the hood cable bracket then I'll go $100.00. But if you have a hood cable then you will want the bracket. Thanks Derek

My first computer was an Atari 1024. The 1024 stood for the memory as in 1024K! No hard drive. started it up with one floppy then put in what ever floppy had the program on you were going to use. I even had a CAD program for it. Memories....... Derek

I'm not too sure. One thing to look for is are there 2 ears on the inside. some of the early dampers have them. If you look at the damper in the picture there are no ears or obstructions. The damper on my 73 is similar to this one but the inside diameter is larger. I thought it was particular to the 73 but maybe you have that one as well. One way to tell is the outer pulley the same diameter and groove size as the inner? If so it would fit. I just need to hook you up with an early rig like mine. I have those as well. Derek

I have them in stock but don't forget they only fit this damper. Derek

I haven't finished the design yet so if it will fit then it shouldn't be a problem

A million no....a Billion dollars! Hi Juan. I got busy with a few jobs so I haven't had time to finish off the pod mount. I will be finishing it for sure though. Until it's done though I won't have a price. Subscribe to the thread above as I'll keep posting my progress. Derek

Not trying to be snarky but take any engine from the 60's pump the exhaust into a room the size of the z cabin and It would probably smell. With the windows open and moving the back of the z is a vacuum cleaner. Derek

Thanks Tyler. I'm the Pusher man! I hope your interior looks better than nullbounds and mine Cuz the cars too big to fit on the turntable! The scanner uses multiple scans to get all the data and then stitches them together. I had thought about trying to position the scanner on an arm inside the car but quickly came to the conclusion that it would suck. This method allowed me to manually place the pods and really get a decent feel as to how it will layout. It will still probably take a couple tries to get it right but it's going to be close. Derek

Had to do a little 3D scanning today so I figured I'd do the pillar mockup. Well actually I wanted to scan the pillar mockup so i came up with some other stuff to scan while I was at it! Here is my scanning rig. It's a Nextengine 3D laser scanner. It's a two part method in that it takes a picture and has a laser scanning device. It attaches the picture to the mesh as a texture. Here it is shooting the "Freekin LAser" on to the model. The model is on a turntable. It takes 360 degrees of scans and weaves them into one. Here is another angle. This is 18 scans done at 2 different heights with the texture applied. Just the mesh. Next I'll bring that mesh into my 3D design program and use it as a reference to create the surfaces that will be the pillar pod mount. Derek

Looks good Ryan. I cut my panels in exactly the same place. You can't see it and it makes it a lot easier to install. I also ended up not putting in the top screw on the relay bracket. I think the fiberboard panels are more flexible so they're easier to install. I guess the bottom line is if everyone is cutting the panels to fit maybe I should sell them already cut. Nice writeup. Derek Oh and it's amazing how a camera with flash shows all the ugliness under the dash. I knew my car wasn't a show piece but when I looked at my pics it looked like something out of a junk yard! I actually use a camera with flash to do my final inspection on patterns. I can find imperfections much easier.

Thanks guys. Well technically this is what I do for a living. I'm a pattern maker for the sand casing industry. The vacuum form patterns are very similar to the foundry patterns I do. Also this type of prototyping is an area that I work in as well. Before I was a pattern maker I did very high end stainless steel and aluminum fabrication for very wealthy people.... I'm much happier now! As far as the steering column covers. Maybe. I'll have to see how demand goes for some of this stuff. Derek

Allrighty then. Since i had so much fun doing my Kick panel speaker pods I decided it was time to start my pillar pod mount. I started out making a drawing of the pillar profile with a contour gauge. I then cut a test piece of the contour and pushed it in place. It took 5 tries to get a fit I was happy with. I then carved out a piece of plastic that was the length of the pillar. Here is a shot of the 5 profiles and the finished pillar blank. I heated the blank and clamped it to the pillar. Here is the piece after it cooled. It had a lot more twist in it than I thought. The I used an epoxy clay to pick up the top and bottom details. The top section will go up behind the sun visor mount. This will be the top attatchment. I'm hoping for friction and pressure to serve as the bottom mount. Then I carved a couple of basic pods just to use as visuals to get the placement. The finished mockup You can see the mount holes for the visor in the clay. This will come in handy down the road. Tune in to my next installment and you'll see how I turn this lump of plastic shizit into a thing of beauty! Thanks Derek

If your having trouble searching for 2 and 3 letter searches you can use the google site specific search. Search You put in http://forums.hybridz.org as the search location. I have no Idea how long a lag it has for current postings but it will get you older info. Derek

Time for an update! I pulled and cut out the four sets. The first set is ready to get shipped to my first victim .. I mean customer tomorrow. I have a second set going out Monday so hopefully we'll know shortly how it's going to work out. I cut them exactly like the stock panels so I don't foresee any problems but I just want to make sure before I offer them up. Here's the finished product. I sprayed them with SEM trim black for Tyler but I don't know if I'll be spraying the production ones or not. I'm including a bracket to move the hood release cable up and away from the speaker. And as usual I've included the hardware. Time to start working on the pillar pod! Derek
