  1. I'm looking for my copy of the article so I can reread it. the description might give some clues on the design.
  2. What kind of pics are you talking about? If I had pics, I wouldn't have asked. I thought the question was fairly clear..
  3. I used to be an R&D chemist, and we had a list of those crazy nanmes. di-hydrogen oxide H20 hydrogen hydroxide H OH oxygen hydride O H2 dide-carbaxolic, cis-, trans-methylated nothing H-H-O= etc. didn't have to be chemically feasible.
  4. i think it might be possible to use the cable if you had a belcrank with a hook (like a hood safety latch) that catches the lock mechanism's pad when you close the hatch. When you pull the cable, it pulls down on the hook. All this stuff would be exposed, with the hatch open. I'm sure there would be a way to enclose it, after development. BUT, here is one thing where I would probably use an electric solenoid. Sometimes "breaking the rules" gets something new & useful to happen... To thing is, You just gotta know when to break the rules.
  5. I was thinking the same thing as Zackb55. If the actual lock mechanism is inside the hatch, how can you run a cable from the floor to work the mechanism? You'd pull the whole cable out when you open the hatch! We better wait for the pictures on this one.
  6. I was able to find a little info. Basically, there was going to be legislation to PAY you (or get a credit) to scrap your older (15+ years) car, which was aimed at getting all those gas-guzzling, "unsafe" wrecks off the road. That means that wrecking yards could possibly scrap the ENTIRE YARD, which would mean no more parts cars, restorable cars, etc. http://www.imcool.com/articles/politics/SEMA_Update_no_car_scrappage.htm You could also be FORCED to scrap your older car http://www.corvetteclubmi.com/legislation.htm FYI, it's Section 832 of S. 517
  7. SIGN something??? I dunno.... with all the paranoia about 'identity theft' going around, I think I would suggest that you go find out where you can send email msgs to, and tell all your car buddies. This is one chain mail message I wouldn't mind spreading! In eith er case, somebody find out what it is supposed to mean.
  8. I heard that U.S. congress (as opposed to PROgress) is supposed to be working on laws to limit the type of restoration and I think how old of a car you can work with? Anybody in the know about this to 'splain it to me? I heard about it on one of those Saturday-morning TV old-car shows, but they didn't give any details. It sounds like the manufacturers want you to buy a new car instead of recycling or restoring something special. This means to me that if you found an old million-dollar Duesenberg, Ferrari, etc., you'd have to junk it. :~(
  9. That's Air dams, plural. GTOs had 2 air dams, one under the front and one just before the rear axle. It shouldn't be too hard to mount a stiff flap or something under the nose, but how would you mount one under the body? Spring-loaded brackets? thx.
  10. That looks good. I have some experience making/modifying parts and hulls for r/c powerboats, so I can tell. Was the spoiler an integral part? Would make sense to mold it as one piece (in the end).
  11. That's how I would like my intake to look. Clean. You can't see the injector wiring either. Just the engine. That intake should run nice and cool, not trapping the hot header heat underneath.
  12. Cabin pressure... That explains why the Enzo GTOs all had the vents on the back. I think you could get away without the window vents, because the Z has those vents between the quarter window & hatch. Window vents would look cool, tho.
  13. Probably already been said.... Doesn't Lexan get all fogged up if you apply wax or cleaner, etc? I think gas would do something damaging too. How thick would that lexan be?
  14. 78 280Z Is there a factory mount or mounting position for the front license plate? You're "required" to have the front one mounted in my area. thx.
  15. The forward rake of the Mustang front is what makes it so different. if it raked back, it would look like any other car out there. Do you have any figures on weight? Due to contemporary safety regulations and such, I wouldn't expect it to be as light as the original car. If you think it's heavy, wait for the convertable car to come out! (Non-purists feel the need to have a convertable car ) Just as long as it never gets 4 doors!
  16. Do you think it would be possible to fit some kind of coil spring inside the tube, or just for a shorter gas-filled tube?
  17. What is involved with using the electric lockup converters? I might be a little ignorant on this subject, but I was wondering if it was possible to use an Electric lockup converter like a clutch on an auto trans? It would mean less slip, and "firmer" starts & gear changes. thx.
  18. I never noticed any drain holes; that's why I was asking. The day I got the car, the hose connecting the 2 halves of the fuel rail split and gas was dripping into the intake, collecting in pools between the runners. It would've been a short ownership if the gas dripped on the exhaust. Another time I was cleaning the valve cover and the rinse water collected between the runners. Maybe tyhe drain holes were toward the front? I had ALL the fuel lines under the hood replaced since.
  19. OK, but then you lose the capacity for them to rebound if you bump something. If you bump anything, you'll get damage to the bumper shocks or maybe even the frame. Oh-- the Haynes manual says not to mess with those things because they are under pressure Couldn't you just drill new holes in the shocks for the mounting screws? Is there enough metal for that? thx.
  20. 78 280Z Is there a way to put on shorter shock things on the bumpers so they don't stick out so far? the front one sticks out like a couple feet. Maybe just shorten them? thx.
  21. I think I figured it out... If you remove the webbing material, you have a bad fire hazard. If the fuel hoses ever start leaking, it goes down onto the hot header pipes and you get FIRE. So I think I will have to live with the ugly, unless somebody comes up with a good idea. thx.
  22. Me like. Will that fit the '78 L28 engine? Duh. Got a link to JSK? thx.
  23. 78 280Z Anybody try to remove the metal between the runners on the intake? I think it might be somewhat beneficial by letting the heat from the rexhaust headers underneath get through faster, thus cooler fuel mix. It might look a little nicer too. thx.
  24. I doubt there will be another Shelby Mustang. He seems to prefer being in business for himself. You never know for sure, tho. Maybe Ford will just put his signature on there to make you spend an extra $100
  25. I bet they put the cold-start injector in there for the city-people who's only care is to: TURN key|put in GEAR| GO Never mind waiting even 30 seconds for the engine to wam up. Too much in a hurry to GO! These same people go to car shows to check out old cars and they say, "I wish I had one of those!" Only if it had a/c, XM radio & a dvd screen! YEEEEESSHH! That's why I respect those guys with the old cruddy MGs & such, who are willing to drive around with no top, the seats are ripped and ther door panels fell off. Guys like us?
