  1. Depending on the area, the day & time, I will look SEVERAL times to make sure that the one last kid on his bike isn't going to try to shoot across before the "light changes" while turning a corner, or crossing a popular intersection. I've seen it happen many times, especially about the time kids are supposed to be going home for bed. Once even when I was crossing an intersection in the evening. I should have followed the kid home to tell off his parents. At least lay on the horn. I was more concerened about looking for stragglers.
  2. I like to drive casual ( you might say slower) on city streets, so I am always getting people cutting in front of me, including Peds in SUITS that think they are justified in crossing all 5 lanes to get to the coffee place or wherever. Usually looks like I just got the tail of the guys suit jacket. One day they won't be so lucky & they'll end up a hood ornament, & I suppose it's MY fault for not seeing them!(Like you can watch all 5 lanes all the time). Jaywalking is illegal just aboout everywhere I've ever been & it's just plain dangerious, even if "everybody's doing it."
  3. You know, with that tray that's under the AFM (on a 280Z) you could just about mount anything, if you made a braket to bolt it together. I also had the thought of bolting an AFM to an intake made forthe 4-bbl carb? It would be sticking straight up, so you might stick an air filter on there to look like a (V8)? just thinking...
  4. Hey, some of that ricer junk is actually USEFUL. If it wasn't for ricers, there wouldn't be any cone air filters, and all that other (neat) stuff. The good thing isthat you can make use of it on your Z, as long as you don't think it'll make more HP Some of those fancy lights might be nice as a replacement, the fuel cap covers, etc. I might get myself a set of those driving lights (they fit the cutout in the nose)... Some other things look nice, but I'm ashamed to admit it here (j/k) I just wish they'd come up with some NORMAL-LOOKING Auto shift knobs! (I'm using a Dodge Intrepid shift knob)
  5. I don't think the coil inside the injectors could get magnetized (copper wiring is not magnetize-able), and they would probably still work (there's a spring in there to close the pin). You could run a DE-magnetizer over it if you wanted to, but still probably won't do anything. On the other hand, do you think it would be possible to magnetize the pin so it would accent the coil's magnetic force and open farther? I suppose the injector's output is limited to the size of the hole... Have your own kind of fun!
  6. How do you know when to turn on the fan? Do you watch the temp. gauge, or just leave on low for warmup & highway, then high for street stuff? thx.
  7. They have inductive amp sensors. Maybe there's an accessory for a VOM that gives you the amps in the form of millivolts on the display.
  8. Can I assume that this fan will go on even when the engine is OFF? New cars have that feature, so I wouldn't want to come back to a car with a dead battery because of the fan.
  9. It's too late. Wit the circulation these forum(s) get, I bet those lyrics are already on tape (or computer) somewhere- with a beat track, vocals, and what else!? LOL
  10. That's really baaaaad... Who's M&M?
  11. Good Point Terry, If I want to change something or teach something to my kids, I use the "leadership by example" method. They see you doing things and how good it is, them start doing it (only one at first) themselves and you get the whole bunch doing it in the end. Kinda like the smoking policies we have now- it had to start with one person. You just have to make sure that one person is YOU and you don't let up (recommending profanity-free language). Don't make a buisance of yourself, either. I just don't see a place for profanity in this highly technical world we're building.
  12. I had the same problem as Dan. About on ther 10th (Wed.) I suddenly got 130 topics with new posts. I can stay logged in unti I close up the browser (NS 7.1) and a few moinutes later, if I try to get back in, it says I'm not logged in. I used the link on the forum's Index page. BTW, if you are concerned about losing your text, put a copy on notepad or something before submitting!
  13. I will agree wil everybody on tyhis one..... sort of. I do prefer to think that we are all professionals of a kind on whatever aspect of this car hobby or business, and as a professional, you know how to properly refer to a part by its name. You wouldn't be calling a piston a 'dickhead', because that's just wrong. So as a professional of a sort, you should also keep your language to a kind that is professional. You might sat that you're a MAN, and as MAN, you just -have- to talk like a MAN. Well, if you really are a MAN, you'd let your manlly intelligence talk for you, instead of your hormones. have a frugal day.
  14. this DeOxit stuff is s ome kind of miracle liquid. You put it on your connector pins and they come out Shiny clean! Haven't been able to find any at the local auto stores, but an Internet search says you can get it in small tubes at stores that sell guitar amps & synthesizers & such. No luck at Murray's, AutoZone, Radio Shack. They all want to sell you battery cleaner! (baking soda) Can you get it anyplace else in pints or spray? Soaking sounds like a good idea. thx.
  15. Dude, I'm surprised you are able to drive with that car. My (ground clearance) on my stock car is a good 8 inches all over. Be careful, there are handling issues and things can break with the car that much lower. Must have 2x4 shocks...
  16. Go ahead and bolt some on!! You won't BELIEVE how they'll affect your performance- like night & day!! but I think you're better off with a good diff mount and a diff bumper.
  17. Luan is also called "mahogony plywood" or "underlayment". It is popular in the 1/4 inch thickness. It's light and easy to work with/cut. Use some 1/2 or 3/4 inch plywood scraps for gusseting. Get the scraps from local housing development. I just cut my console straight off under the radio. I left the armrest for now to keep tools & nuts/screws in. I'll probably just lose all of it & cover the hump with quilted vinyl. I need a place ofor thefire extinguisher between the seats. Z-cars should never have had a center console to begin with. Just a place to stick the radio.
  18. I contact my state's DMV for a title search on a 260Z I "found in a barn." Unfortunately, the car was rusted everywhere and the title search turned up nothing. Or is that fortunate?
  19. Wasn't there supposed to be a MOVIE about SPeed Racer with real people and cars? I searched Blackbuster.com, and all thewy had was some anime thing that was pieces of the cartoon series spliced together...
  20. How did you run the exhaust around the (other) side of the gas tank? There doesn't look like there's room for a pipe, much less a muffler.

    Elusive Euro sound

Mine sounds like that, but better, IMO. It idles a better and has a nice sound at speed. I have a coffee-can from Meineke, and had the resonator removed for less weight & simplicity (mistake?) but hey didn't have any with dual tips, so I got the 'megaphone.' About the Euro-sound -- I was thinking that if you had 2 exhaust pipes, with one having 150% the length of the other, you should get a sound that sounds like double the RPM, because you got two puffs out the ends at different times... WHERE CAN YOU GET ANSA TIPS? thx.
  22. You are probably referring to the silicone material uised for ther Space Shuttle's protective tiles. Those things can come out of a 2000 degree oven, and you could literally pick them up with your finger a few seconds later! I think that there might even be carbon-based engine blocks, which should be much lighter than iron, aluminum, or ceramic, but not until saomebody comes up with a high-temperature resin. These should be strong enough not to crack, like a ceramic one might. I like carbon, because just about anything organic can be recycled into carbon! Why didn't somebody think of this 50 years ago?
  23. It sounds like you mean that you got an email NOTICE that there is a PM waiting for you? Instead of a "Dummy's" section, we could just call it "help" or "FAQ"?
  24. Good info. I was thinking about that, because if I can my GTO up to snuff for the inspector, I could retitle it as a GTO replica with a VIN that had an appropriate(but non-existant) Vin/serial number. Probably something in the 4000 range. I was thinking that if you were planning a restoration, to make things totally legal, you should pre-apply for a VIN tag replacement or something like that, so you could keep the original or request a new one. Where would you get a new one? who would make it? Some guys that build street rods from scratch. Should check to see if they get some kind of tag when the car is registered. thx.
  25. I don't bother "racing" other cars. I'm too busy looking cool with some '70s rock on my high-power( 6 watt) stereo systerm! LOL I let them fools look stupid getting pulled over to give the poilecman his 'autograph'. Don't have time to mess with the cops myself, either.
