  1. Ok, thx. Can you tell me what they're called? Maybe you can find some at the swap meets or HotRod places.
  2. What are those spring-loaded hood hold downs used on the GTO hood called? I mean the ones you have to turn out of the way. Also, where can you get some? Thx. HAGO.
  3. I was just thinking that the last few inches of the datsun rear sheet metal probably isn't needed for the installation of the GTO rear clip, so why not just cut off the last couple/few inches? Or at least just the area where the brake light are mounted, so you still have the hatch lock mechanism. It would save a good amount of weight, like about 50 lbs? Are there any structural problems with the removal? If required, you could substitue a lightweight sheet of glass or plastic, which would still save weight over the original steel. Just throwing in the idea. I'm sure some people can refine it.
  4. According to a book on the History of GTOs I recently red, the original colour was called, "Russo Cina" or China red.
  5. My car had a radio installed in it when I got it (JVC-removeable type) and I took a look at how it was wired. There was a wire going from the p. side speaker, under the quarter window, to the factory connector under the dash. I couldn't find the other wire for the d. side speaker. Maybe it's in there. It's a g/y wire
  6. I thought you were talking about the stock JATCO transmission. That's what I'm trying to shift. n In fact I just ordered a 3spd & a 4spd shifter to hook up.
  7. Did you Hammer shifter work as is? what kind of modifications did you make? Ddid you have to adjust lever lengths (longer/shorter)? I recently sent my money gor a 4spd Universal shifter off Ebay! Maybe it'll work..
  8. Can you describe the size of the rack (diameter?) I'm interested in knowing if the stock Datsun bushings will work and if there is enough meat to make a cut to 'key' the bushings to the rack so it doesn't slip. Otherwise, what is there to keep the rack from slipping sideways?
  9. I did a little research into getting one, and the guy told me that the model year 90-95 are the same, then '96 and '97 are both different. Can I get a confirmation on this? BTW, what is the distance between the Stock 280Z rack mounts? My car is in storage.
  10. Is there a link for the "printer friendly" version of the thread?
  11. Yeah, somebody managed to get a B & M shifter to work, but it needed to have the levers redrilled to make sure all the gears were properly/fully engaged.
  12. I would like to convert an old 4-speed stick to the auto trans, if anybody has one I could buy. I think a toploader-style would do it. Real 4-speed shifter looks, huh?
  13. What f you cut off the Z rack mounts, weld on the miata mounts in a position to make everything clear? There should be enough room to get a steering shaft down to the rack. Maybe it would need some kind of fancy U-joint?
  14. Didn't the MX-5 /MX-6 use the same suspension? It would increase the chances of finding a steering rack. 1995 is too new to find in th JY.
  15. Are there any compatible wiper linkages for the 280Z? The ones in mine are a little rusty and don't work very well, at either speed (klunk, klunk, skreep!, klunk)
  16. I Couple alternatives you might consider: "stick-on' window antenna: http://www.aerpro.com/cgi-bin/product.cgi?pcode=AP259&make=&model= mini-antenna: look like a mobile antenna & sticks to the outside of the window. http://jcwhitney.com/product.jhtml?CATID=4959&BQ=jcw2
  17. Maybr Mrs. Johnson can let us know through Nezzie what we can send to him & how much... You out there Nate?
  18. Thanks Trevorm B&M had one a few years ago, but didn't sell any. Called it "H-Gate Shifter". Maybe one of those shifters from Lokar will work.
  19. Larry- I'm waiting for you to stand up and say, "PSYCHE!!" meaning you shammed us all to get in a good laigh! But We'll all miss you, bro... If I get something done on my "goat," I'll send you a pic. Just no chicks laying on the car, so the sensors don't mark it out.
  20. 1995 is still kinda new. I had trouble finding a '95 Dodge (Intrepid) for the shift lever (button is on the front, but not an easy installation.) Maybe there will be one after the snow clears. Please keep us posted. I really need the p.s.!
  21. What do you think about removing all those plastic panels and door panels and replacing them with formed aluminum sheets? I think it would give a nice clean, retro-look. Low maintenance & fire-proof, too.
  22. Next winter project would be to see if you can use a manual shifter( like a 4-speed) to shift the automatic transmission on a stock 280Z. I chose a 4 speed shifter, tinking that reverse could be Park, neutral is neutral, and the 4 forward gears would be Reverse, Drive, 2nd and Low. If it works, I'd have to build a shifter box on top of the trans hump, which would look cool, Any ideas? Anobody got an old 4- or 5- speed shifter (the kind with control rods, not ball) they'd send me cheap? Maybe Vega or Pinto, volkswagon?
  23. More GTO controversy... First, they can't figure out how many they made, now they can't figure out how they named it!
  24. That's how I see it... It really was just a 250 GT with a few bopdy modifications, but still essentially the same. If some idiot tells me, "that's not a gto, GTO's are from PONTIAC." I'd probably slap it HARD, then tell it, "Ferrari didn't make any GOATS!"
  25. According to 'F'-records, the technical name for the GTO is "250 GT comp./62" And, It was originally GT-O, intil a typist forgot to put in the '-' The rest is histoir. Just thought I'd throw that in for info.
