  1. ^^ Quality post right there. You can add LS1 picture here:
  2. I'll just say amazing. Wow for a DIY job that looks unreal. Two HUGE thumbs up from a guy who can't do F all himself.
  3. I've loosened the bolts holding mine on but never an issue with the shaft itself. Even my mechanic commented on how nice it was.
  4. Ok so I found some pics of the two cars that beat me. Maxima - first place G coupe - 2nd place - I didn't even see this car there
  5. Thanks for the compliment guys. As for the furry things, since I've owned a car I've had one of those in each car. Its like my little mascot. They are located in the original stereo headunit spot becuase I didn't get time to fabricate a cover panel for the show. They are cute and hid a hole It was bad enough I had to get my CV axle swap done and get the leather on the new stereo panel the day before the show I just ran out of time.
  6. Well I'm not going to lie its still sitting in a box on the shelf in the garage. With having sold my house my garage space is limited where I'm living now and this has just taken a back burner for the summer. Once our new house is built I'll get on this though. Promise.
  7. I have them looped on my LS1 swap (I know not L6 but still)... When I install my Flex-a-lite heater I'll un-loop and run them properly. no issues at all with having them looped.
  8. Almost everything had a class.. honda civic HB, coupes, low rider trucks, mazda etc. its a HUGE show, TONS of trophies given out. 2nd place was an infinity coupe (looked stock with rims/tint that i saw) which is odd since the 350z's had their own class and I think since they are the same platform they should be in with them...personally... 1st place was a Maxima - gold in colour, 22" wheels, aligator leather interior, stereo and an airbrushed engine cover. Meh. I basically need a show quality stereo install (IE subs/amps) not just the fibreglass door panels with the Focal speakers I guess to compete in the "show" category. The judges LOVE the car as did a lot of people who were walking by all day. But I'm more go (motor swap, big brakes, driveline upgrades etc) than show. Oh well there's always next year.
  9. Well this past weekend I went to Scrape By The Lake down by niagara falls. This is primarily a 'low-rider' show but has grown to be over 500+ cars. I entered for the 2nd year and this was the 2nd year that the Z came home with the 3rd place trophy for "nissan sport compact" class. A few pics of the car at the show: New interior panel we made this spring for the stereo re-locate as well as integrated shift light and volt gauge. Wrapped in the same leather as the seats, panels and shift boot (also new).
  10. Isn't this the truth. My mom's house (where I am living till my house is built) is only 6yrs old and its unreal what we've come across in doing things. We are now finishing the basement and basically had to take down the studding/insulation to start over becuase of the piss poor job the previous owner had done. Thankfully my wife works for the builder (both my mom's house, and ours that is being built) so she has a few contractors that are working for an amazing rate to get it done for us. Some people just shouldn't own a hammer or drill.
  11. Well I thought I had been having issues with my ujoints/half shafts so I finally arranged to get the cv's that have been in my front closet installed. Like a good little HybridZ'er I searched relentlessly throughout the forums to make sure that I was as prepared as possible. There is TONS of info on this scattered throughout the forum, finding it can be a tad tedious however. Anyway removal of the stock shafts was pretty straight forward, removed the bolts on the companion flange and pop'd the other end out of the differential. Hole thing 'slid' out pretty smoothly, I was impressed. The axle nut however, was "fun" to say the least. We had an air impact and it wasn't budging, thru the torch on it and then hit it with the impact and it finally let go and came off. I realized about this time that I didn't write down which side got the longer of the two shafts . So I called my friend and got him to search the site for me. Shorter goes on the passanger side iirc. So I've also read that people recommend flipping the cages on the CV's so I did that. Messy but very straight forward with the PDF file that is floating around on the site. Further to that people suggest to 'trim' the ends a little to eliminate the possibility of binding within the differential. This is where I/we learned something. There is a reason the very tips of the shafts are tappered, to get the lock ring (or whatever you want to call it over the shaft so it will lock into place). So when you cut the ends like this picture, just before the splines start make sure to have them slightly tappered or else it will NOT lock into place in the differential. We were stumped for god knows how long as to why it would not 'click' into place. We tried a little force but nothing. We put the stock back in and "click", son of a ... then we placed them side by side on the ground and it hit us. Unreal. A little tapper and 'click'. I used companion flanges from a local ontario Z car member and used the 280zx axle nut but needed to trim the threaded end of the stub axle so the CV would sit flush to the adapter. I needed to get some slightly longer bolts to mate the flanges and the cv's as the stockers wouldn't allow me to use a lock washer but a quick stop to canadian tire and some grade 8 bolts were found. All said and done I could do this in like 1/3 the time with the knowledge of doing it once. the only 'problem' could be those silly axle nuts that are on there to like 23094gagillion lb/ft of torque. (that is an exact amount, i checked). Good times. The car feels great and smooth and no binding, no noises just good driving. What was nice was that this was done on saturday and saturday night I drove down to Niagara for Scrape By The Lake (a huge car show) and took 3rd place sunday for Nissan Sport Compact class (2nd yr in a row to be 3rd).
  12. This is kind of why I bought a '74 2+2 a month or so ago. Something that I can daily during the summer and will leave the LS1 for more 'spirited' driving/shows/racing etc.
  13. I love resurecting ANCIENT threads but I was searching for something and came across this. I have 235/60/15 drag radials (MT) and these will NOT fit on stock fenders. I am running 15x8 0ET though. Maybe, just maybe with a +4 or so they would but I have to roll mine for sure. 100%.
  14. I'm running a 224/224 cam. Its great for the street and tons of fun. Nice idle, i have it on 114lsa so its not too bumpy at all but EVERYONE loves the idle and exhuast note of the car. I don't see my self changing it out any time soon, I'll do a set of heads before I do that. If I swap another LS1 into the '74 this will be the cam that it gets for sure.
  15. Well last wednesday was the last time I drove the Z due to a newly acquired issue lol. At a car meet I had mentioned a 'slight' vibration at speeds. Well originally my 'vibrations' were only at 70-74mph on the highway, below or above those speeds nothing at all. Good times. So on the highway I'd do around 80 and all was well. Well last wednesday driving through town (up fisherhallman then across to the meet) I noticed that doing 40-45mph I was getting a little vibration. Odd I thought but the roads aren't great so I didn't think too much of it. Was at the meet, talked and such and left around 8pm. I went down university and decided to just hit the hwy and blast to fisherhallman and go home. Well I was behind a SLOW ass car on the on ramp in 2nd gear do ♥♥♥♥ all for speed so when we hit straight away I accelerated slightly above normal to get to actual highway speeds . 2nd gear ends shift to 3rd gear start into the peddle and a second later OMG:eek: the steering wheel was shaking, the ENTIRE CAR was vibrating and I thought the car was going to explode. 55mph is all I was doing. So I throw it in 4th, no better, 5th, no better, clutch IN, no better. Poop. Leave it in 5th and am slowing down and at 50mph its 'ok'. So here I am 'blasting' along at 50mph in 5th gear (car almost idling, lol) any more and it feels like the rear wheels are bouncing on and off the ground thats how bad the vibrations were. I was panicing in my head to say the least. I made it home and parked the car. A few days later I decided to see if I could see what was wrong. Checked lugnuts, all tight. Good. So I jacked the car up at the back and looked at my rear end (i like it like that ). Rear is there, mounts look ok etc. passanger side half shaft/ujoint looks normal. Driverside. Not so much. The u-joint kinda looks like it was beaten all the hell, gunked up, half shaft not so great. I now know what my problem is. this is the same side that i blew out last summer so now its time to get my 300zx TT CV joints installed. Oh well. ♥♥♥♥ happens I guess. I know I haven't been driving 'easy' on it so I can't really complain. Anyone know what I can use to trim the tips off these CV's so they won't bind? So far my wonderful friends have suggested a chainsaw and sawzall..lol.. lotta good they are eh? Just thought I'd share my experience
  16. Hmmm I guess I'll have to go to the container to look at the car and see for sure when I get a chance. I do have the title and the ID # is GRLS30003945 which by your previous post would certainly make it an 'early' '74. I guess the suspension and such may not be transferable
  17. Thanks for the help guys. As for turn signals and bumpers. Mine has neither stock or else I would have known by skinny vs fat (like i have on the 280). I'll have to see what the date is on the door of the car.
  18. Well since I have a 1974 260z (2+2) I'm now trying to figure out what is transferable from my 280z. I've heard that 'late' 260's are basically 280's for the most part and the 'early' are more 240's. When does the early/late transition happen? Thank you
  19. I've had kidney problems and I can attest to the unexplainable pain that can be caused by the kidney's. I ended having mine removed last fall. Life's been great since. Drink lots of cranberry juice (min a glass a day) and it will help with the deterioration of the kidney stones. oh and i have about 110tabs of oxy leftover from my surugry just sitting around..lol.. it was the only thing that would take the pain away for me in the end..
  20. ferrari F430 and my datsun http://s469.photobucket.com/albums/rr55/smooth_gtp/?action=view&current=VID00024.flv I just snuck in as my co-worker was filming my boss
  21. Always, Always, Always chain a trailer no matter what you are doing, no matter how little are moving it. The story: Bought a '74 260z 2+2 on ebay two weeks ago. Guy was coming from Georgia to Connecticut to visit family so he trailered the car from GA to CT for me (I paid his tolls/fuel). Saved me about 10hrs of driving doing it this way. I drove 9hrs to CT with my best friend and my wife in an '09 Ridgeline with an Autotransport from Uhaul. Side note: Truck was great with the trailer for a V6. Met with Craig at his son-in-laws house in CT in the morning. He lives on Hulda Hill, which should be called Hulda Freakin' mountain. S curves and huge drops, not trailer friendly at all IMO. His driveway is decently sloped in all directions. When we got there the Z was on his trailer, I did my brief look over and decided it was more or less what I thought it was for the price. He backed up his F250 Desiel 4door and hooked up the trailer to pull it forward so we could roll the Z off. Craig seemingly has done lots of trailering based on our conversations in the past, having his own trailer, nice truck etc. George, who was with me has done boating and that is his trailering history, I had none really, hence G being with me. Well Craig got the trailer on the ball and was just pulling the trailer forward, george just threw a chain onto his hitch 'just becuase', even though we were only moving it 6'. Craig thought nothing of it. I hop in the Z after releasing the straps/chain off the Z. Note its graded downhill behind me for another 15' then a drop off to a ravine. Remember this part. I'm in the car and get it to start to roll backwards, with George guiding me towards and down the ramps the trailer shifted weight pretty hard, but from inside the car I couldn't see anything and thought it was just tilting and resting on the ramps due to leverage of the car moving etc. The Z jumped a little and rolled off the trailer as planned, I got on the brakes and threw the parking brake on. THEN we all realized how close to a MAJOR accident we were. When the trailer shifted the tongue poped OFF THE BALL. The ONE chain George threw on the hitch caught and held the trailer with the Z on it and me inside the Z. Had that chain not been there, I would have been in a world of hurt as the trailer would have went down the ravine easily taking me and the Z along with it. I nearly shat myself when I saw the one chain taught and nothing on the ball of the truck. Needless to say it was a stressful moment. Thankfully we loaded the car safely on our trailer (properly hitched) and got the hell out of dodge. The 3 of us rotated driving home and 18hrs later we got home and rolled the Z off the trailer onto my street. For having been my first time towing a car with a truck it was surprisingly easy with the trailer from Uhaul. Very well balanced and had brakes on it as well which was nice as we drove through about 10hrs of what seemed like mountains. The car is already in storage and unfortunately will not be touched much if at all till we get our new house in december. So remember. ALWAYS chain your trailer up no matter what you are doing.
