  1. that is fantastically awesome. nice thinking!
  2. I had this happen to me this january. I blew the snot out of my R200 spider gears and got a replacement R200 from a member. Pulled mine out, threw his in and went to bolt up the driveshaft and only two holes of 4 lined up. Talk about frustrating. I then broke my finger removing the 'new' diff to swap the flanges (mine was square, other was rectangle). In the end it all worked though. Get the big nut off, pull the flange, put flange back on new diff, re-use nut and make it RFT (<--my new fav acronym!) jay
  3. I think both have their merits personally. VQ would be for keeping the nissan/datsun relationship and its pretty cool. That motor sounds awesome too! LSx is a monster IMO. My boss has an Ferrari and my coworkers like the sound of the cam'd LS more than his motor (obviously personal taste but the LSx's do sound sweet!) Easy easy to mod. cam/intake/exhuast/tune and over 400rwhp. LS pcm's are basically standalones from the factory power/ground and the stock harness and you are more or less off to the races. LSx will most likely be quicker in stock form than a VQ as well. I'm partial to the LS1 because I have one obviously, however if you are going through the trouble of a swap like either of these you need to want exactly what you are going to get. Don't compromise, put together a goal, plan plan plan then execute. I wanted 11's and reliability. 11.77 on street DR's and 25MPG on the hwy! Heck my 8.5month pregnant wife took the car to work, not sure how she got in and out but she did, lol. It's all about having fun. Biggest thing is to account for supporting mods as well. Fuel system and brakes need to be up to the task of the new power. I went overboard on the fuel but wanted to be 100% sure that I'd never have an issue down the road with fuel supply. Peace of mind for me.
  4. lol my wife and i went out the night before to a bday for a co-worker of hers (she was still working) and they say hot wings will set off labour. well when amanda emailed her office today to say that she had the baby already her boss (an awesome guy) didn't believe her, just thought it was an april fools joke since he had seen her within 12hrs of the baby being born. We literally had to send a picture for them to believe us! Thanks for the kind words guys All is well at home too. He slept most of the night 12-4ish and 5-7 so we feel a little spoiled as we (mainly I) were able to get some sleep. He's a trooper, he even slept in his bassinet and didn't need to be in the bed all night. That said I had to let him sleep on my chest for a while so I could make sure he was breathing, I was paranoid, lol. Anyway off I go for now. Thanks again!
  5. Yup today tops the list of all the days that I've lived. My wife gave birth to an 8lb 4oz baby boy this morning at 6:38am. This is our first baby and man did he come quickly. Amanda started having contractions at 330am and by 5 we were at the hospital and at 6:38am he was here. The nurses were amazed how fast she progressed and delivered the baby. All natural, no drugs even. I'm very proud to say the least. I was lucky enough to be allowed to cut the imbilical cord too which was pretty cool. anyway pictures are worth a thousand words (blackberry pics so be warned, we didn't have time to even get her bag with the camera from the car before he was here!) For those with a good eye you'll see that I was wearing my HybridZ shirt in the picture of me napping with my son.
  6. my plate is BAHD 220 DMV gave it to me when I registered it. Pretty close to something cool. Everyone says "isn't that a 240 not a 220?!" its a 280 people, thats what the badges say...lol
  7. i have 245/45/16s out back lowered and it rubs. i have spring blockers to keep it up and it rubs on big dips still. that is on 16x8 0 offest.
  8. looks awesome! I'd ditch the vents on the hatch personally. it is a tad busy IMO. I wonder if there is a way to make the lexan weather proof at all?
  9. whens your friends funeral? i know i woulda killed him if it was my car...lol looks like a cool spoiler but as mentioned there are other nice® ones out there to replace it with
  10. I can't speak to this particular pump but I am wondering where your pump is in relation to the tank and feed line from the tank to the pump. Is the pump at the lowest point of the system by the tank? I could potentially see it dying sooner than later if the pump is running dry for a second or two every start versus always being wet with fuel. I know when I plumbed my aeromotive pump we made sure that it was below the tank and all lines were downhill towards the pump so its always wetso there is no dry run time. food for thought.
  11. I'd swap to an R200. It'll hold. CV shaft upgrade will probably be worth looking into if you have sticky tires or plan on racing which is harder on the half-shafts. Took a 4k RPM clutch drop on heated DR's with almost 400rwhp for me to break my already weakened R200. Bonehead move on my part.
  12. physics always beat smartass' oh and super moderators are NEVER wrong
  13. I've been working out just for this reason. 21" pythons will git-r-done. Ok well not 21" but ... ah fack, I'm just havin' fun now. Thanks again guys
  14. Awesome guys, thanks for the help. There are a couple industrial supply shops here that I'll pop into on monday. I'll make sure that I get the metal lock nuts (I know what ones you guys are talking about, someone else was describing them). What kind of scared me was that my wife (8.5months pregnant) took the car to work the day before this happened to me (she only works 5miles from home thankfully). Car is out of commission now till I get these new bolts in. Stubby wrench is about the only way to get these tightened I'm convinced, having done this twice now...lol
  15. Hey guys Yesterday, for the 2nd time, my driveshaft has loosened the nuts off the bolts while driving. Needless to say the vibrations weren't fun and I pulled over to inspect what the possible issues were and all 4 DS bolts were loose. I hand tightened them (whilst burning my wrist on my exhuast) and limped home. Threw it up on a jack and tightened the SOB's back down and the test drive went well. I'm looking to know what size of DS bolts you guys are using (I have an R200 rear end and JCI DS). At this point the threads are getting chewed up from this and feel better replacing them than trying to reuse them. Also I had a local race guy say that if I'm loosening the DS bolts I may have a driveline angle issue that is causing extra vibrations which is loosening the bolts off. Does this sound accurate as a potential cause for my problem? Any input is appreciated Thank you Jason
  16. Its funny I was contemplating doing down to 3.7's from my 3.90's when i blew my spider gears due to having a hard time launching with the power. I didn't cave though, insta-torque is fun on the streets
  17. i did as above with a metal pipe between rubber hose and i'd say mine is maybe 1" ID maybe a hair bigger at best. I definately have NO issues at all. See the below pic for the pipe I have run.
  18. well it was a balmy 43*f today and dry out so I broke out the jerry can and went and got gas for the red monster. $20 later I get home and fire it up. Took a half dozen tries before she caught and idled ok but I can live with that. Off came the cover, pop the garage door throw the wife (8.5months pregnant) in the passanger seat and away we went. I can't believe I live in a place that only lets me drive this car half the year at best. I had so much fun it was unreal. Its loud, rough, obnoxious, smelly and down right exhilerating. We were only out for 30-40min tops toured around town and the blasted the expressway home. I forgot what its like to merge at 90mph in 4th gear and still have two more to go! My civic sure has hell can't do that. Weeeee is all that came to mind, other than slowing down for traffic amidst the dirty look from the passanger Anyway just backed it back into the garage, threw the keys on the dash and put the cover back on as I doubt that it'll get driven again for a while as I know winter is still going to poke its head out on me in the next few weeks. I just could resist the chance to get out and hit the pavement. Anyone else get a chance to take their car from storage out for a run today?
  19. The black earls fittings are pretty nice from what I've seen. I have done my Z with russell fittings front to rear and short of one swivel fitting seeping causing a gas smell in my garage its been great. I've since just replaced the fitting and the gas smell is gone which makes me super happy (and the wife moreso!)..lol..
  20. Sorry this should have been locked. I found one from a local member. Thanks though.
  21. I don't know if it will rub on stock springs as i'm lowered as mentioned. They hook decently well for a 235 width. my best 60' is 1.77 which isn't screaming fast but since it doesn't squat (spring blockers) I can't ask for much more than that.
  22. depends on the offest of thet tire and if the car is lowered. I have 235/60/15 Mickey Thompson DR's on 15x8 0ET rims and they definately rub the fenders. My car is lowered on MSA springs and I even have spring blockers in the back and they still rub. The rear fender lips definately need to be rolled to clear, even then it will be cloooose. In the first picture you can see where they rub on the sidewall. They only rub on big dips in the road. If they edges were rolled in they'd clear a lot better, but even then I don't know. Thankfully these aren't my daily tires, I just throw them on to go to the track and back. my 245/45/16s *16x8 0ET* don't rub due to being a shorter overall diameter, but again thats with the blocker in the rear. Add some negative camber in the rear and it'd clear better obviously as well.
  23. Glad to hear people are doing well post surgury!
  24. I'm going to vote for the LS1 as well. I'm running a tiny cam (224/224: .567" lift) on stock 241 heads with a FAST intake and TB, JTR huggers and single 3" exhuast. I should be at or near the 400rwhp with a new dyno. Trapping 120 as the sig says. Knocks down mid 20's MPG as well with the 6spd tranny.
