actually, I think it's the cleanest car, even for AZ I'll take newer pics later today after I clean all the dirt off. It needs a valve adjustment very badly, but I don't have another gasket. Otherwise I'd go next door to checkers and buy some tools to do it.

hahaha it is a trebuchet!

Just got it tonight for 900 bucks 5 speed, runs good, needs a tune up badly because of the rotted gas that it ran on.

I just got it tonight and I couldn't be happier ^^ The area on the driver side front, we used some of this car care stuff, it's a clear liquid....i can't remember the name, but as you can see, the car needs a bath. iit shows 66k on it, but it might be 160k. needs a tune up because of the nasty gas. there's virtually no rust, except for slight surface rust around the battery box. The title says first Registered 11/1978 for a list price of 9073 Vin number HLS30465974 Now, for pics Big tires. the right scrubs because it needs a little adjustment (TC adjustment i belive to pull it back a tiny bit?) Mmmm pretty chrome and shiny reflectors yeah, the reason why it was cheap. the 240 wheel in the passenger seat is going on tomorrow. im' gonna clean up the car (all the gauges work) the engine bay. hey look, no rust! it even has the engine bay light located on the inside of the left fender (works and is bright) that battery box, is the WORST of all the rust, by 1000% the other side of the engine. no rust here no rust here!!!! the entire body in this area is rust free, except a tiny tiny tiny bit on the edge (you can see the tiny dark spots right?) this is a sideways view of the driver side door jam. pretty much, no rust. under the car is FILTHY! the pipe is slightly damaged in one spot, and the tank is slightly dented (it's not the stock tank, it was replaced but was damaged on something when it was being put in?) I've never seen that blue air box on anyone elses Z....... that flow sensor isn't the original. it's been retrofitted (plastic hoses are wrong diameter) it's in pretty good shape. the interior got destroyed because the front FACED the rising sun. burning the front of the car. the back isn't as bad, but is still bad (interior wise) oh right, it cost me 900 bucks

I've been excited all day since i went to brians house to see it. 900 bucks. i'm waiting on him to get a gascan and print out a temp tag for me to slap on it. purrs like a big cat at idle, even though it didn't have gas (it fired right up on basically fumes) NO SMOKE either, which made me happy. my mom's car smokes like crazy when you start it becaues the valve seals are bad. the body has 2 dents that i can fix, and there is NO RUST except on the battery tray, which i can fix ^^ the engine is very clean looking, but dirty. the interior is the reason why it's only 900 bucks. Imagine a pitbull that loves eating plastic and fabric. now imagine that pitbull locked in a car without food. that's the interior. I'll post pictures when i bring it home. it's a 78 280z btw It's home! my mom's cam is dead. Nasty old gas is a pain. it wasn't running to great till the old gas burnt out and the new gas started going in. gauges work. tommorow i'm going to do some adjustments to it and get it running smoother. It sounds GREAT!

not only that, but starting my mom's car to go to the bank made me remember something. it had sat there forever, and not a puff of smoke, and it cranked up instantly. no wr wr wr wr vroom. just wr vroom. smooth idle too. the clutch felt good (though i haven't driven it yet) and the brakes were nice and solid. but yeah, the fact that it fired RIGHT UP without any hesitation made me pretty happy. now i just need to know what i need to do to get it registered and pass emissions XP -

I just went to see the car, it's out of gas, but started right up and idled VERY smoothly for the 10 seconds it had no weird noise or anything, 60k miles, it sat for 8 years in a garage before he got it a few years ago, but sitting in the sun destroyed the interior completely needs some work for sure on the console, but it's very clean otherwise. i asked how low he would go, he said no lower than 900 because he has bills to pay. it has the original bumpers, and the chrome on it looks beautiful. VERY slight surface rust on the battery box where the gold paint chipped, but i looked at the frame rails and such, looks all clean. -

but don't all 280z's have cats? anyways, that's sort of what i planned on doing. I wouldn't shoot for 250 right away, but progressivly. I'd buy a decent manifold and turbo that i could stick with, but i'd slowly build up the engine so it can handle more boost in the future. It will be a daily driver (since i'll be starting college maybe in the next summer semester or something) and i'll also use it for work, so i won't be able to get collectors car insurance... how does this sound 78 280z, straight body, good engine, good 5spd, shitty interior, gold paint, 1100 bucks. i'm meeting the guy in 45 minutes to talk to him, the car is 1 STREET AWAY FROM ME!!! i'm excited cause i have 1100 right now -
you mean "Ricer's Gone Wild" how about "Rice Crispy" lol "Rice Cooker"

they have different emissions testing for the different years. 67-74 (if i remember correctly) do not have the catalytic converter, pvc, or any of those checked for. the emissions standard is also double what the 75-80's test is (because those have the cat's) so, think getting 250 out of a stock block L28 with a megasquirt seems reasonable? because that's what my rwhp goal is XP this is a link to the PDF showing the dyno statistics on what year has to be to http://www.azdeq.gov/environ/air/vei/download/dyna.pdf this is a link to the requirements for each year of vehicle. as you see, the only testing on 67-74 is the load test, and idle test (on the rolling dyno) http://www.azdeq.gov/environ/air/vei/download/elements.pdf -

thanks. i think the only thing that set me off about the 280, is that it has to remain emmissons compliant in arizona. That's why i need some Arizona input on how much of the emissions stuff that can be removed before it's not street legal. I know it needs the cat and some other things, but just how much, (if any) can be removed. I suppose I could buy a megasquirt II kit and turbo it, then buy a VERY cheap laptop to run the megasquirt programming to tune it (i'd have no other way to tune it since i live in an apartment, on the second floor. that's the reason i wanted the 240 though, was the whole emissions crap. if I do get a 280z, stock bumpers, gone, msa airdam will go on, ac will be stripped out, and most of the sound proofing will be gone (i like noise ^^) I just need some input from fellow arizona owners so i can get an idea of how far i can go without hurting it's testing abilities. -
I'm really torn right now. I want a 240z, but they're wicked hard to find in my area for cheap (under 2 grand cheap) but, i think i could find an early 280 easier. here's the thing though I don't really like being restricted by emmisions from the 280, nor that it weighs more. but how different are they? If i were to remove the bumpers, and put an MSA airdam on the 280, what else causes it to weigh so much more? I don't like A/C so that would go out the door as well. Would it be worth it to buy a 280 for a daily driver if i can't find the 240? I'm only 19, so i know i could buy my dream car of a 1970 240z in the future, but i like the simplicity of the older models. does anyone in arizona have a 280z that they've tuned up or anything? I'd like to know what sort of power i could get out of a turbo'd z before i break the emmissions rules. Thanks for all your help guys.

I like that kind of stuff. Watching the HUGE gas planes hover is insane though.

Whatever is a real word. which is why Firefox won't mark it as improper XP
-
so, would you guy's suggest a lightened flywheel for a stock L24?
-
can you say big RC car?
-
I think the 240z i'm buying is indeed a series 1. it doesn't have vents behind the 1/4 window, and has the rectangular vents on the back (and it's a 1970, yay) guy's askin 1650, and it's in damn near perfect shape (arizona car) I'm hoping to work out a deal with him soon so i can get it this month/next month

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/car/409347181.html I think that ones closer to a gt40, but wrong powerplant XP (corvair flat 6) anyways, that guy said it has a 65-74 pan, that makes me laugh. it's an IRS pan, so it has to be 69+ well, unless he hack apart an irs and swingaxle pan.....but 68 was the last swingaxle.

Man, i remember watching that vid a few years ago xp and i still love it haha
-
so, is it time to put the l26 on a crane and throw it at the guy's house? that REALLY sucks man...i'm sure something will work out though.
