  1. that's what i do for going into 1st. old vw's FIRST gear wasn't syncro'd so i'd naturally go 2nd 1st. I still do that to help it get into first just a tiny bit. I go 5th reverse to get it in. works pretty well imo.
  2. It was nice seein you guy's there tonight haha. about a half mile from my house my car started acting up a bit, but it cleared up. it started jerking at around 3500-4000 if i didn't go easy. i think just some crap plugged up the fuel filter for a second. cleared up after a couple minutes so i'm not worried. (but it's still rich ^^) even though we only had 3 cars together, i still think it was nice. especially there were many many more OTHER cars like the huge group of corvettes parked near us. (and it seemed that quite a few people liked our cars) maybe some other time we'll gather a bigger group
  3. so on pavillion blvd, the parking closest to the street? i'll probably get there after you, since i want to clean my car (it appears that dirt has protected the belly of the car lolz)
  4. I get out of work at 5pm today. I'm going to pull all the crap out of my car (tools, garbage, old parts, etc) but i'm not sure if i have enough gas T_T I SHOULD have enough, it's only 16 miles from my house. SWEET You'll probably see me around 6-7pm. just sniff for the Z that smells like a gas station. (I'm almost 100% positive it's because the water temp sensor wire plug thing is corroded, and i haven't done a good job cleaning it) at least NO MORE OVERHEATING btw where are you guy's going to find a place to park?
  5. So, who's going? I don't know if i can go. unless someone can spot me 10 bucks for gas XP
  6. fan works now! temp sending unit i think it busted. it was reading a temp of 220, and would go up to 235, but no steaming till the guage read 240ish from driving in slow slow stop and go traffic. BEFORE i fixed the fan, it would go up to nearly 250 and would boil. it's DEFFINETLY not overheating. no pinging, no loss of power, no coolant loss, no steaming. just a stupid gauge. I"M GOING!!!! even though my car's running so rich that i'm getting probably 10mpg if i'm lucky. i'm gonig to clean off the connections with vinigar and see if that works
  7. ^^ maybe i should stay on the computer less when i don't have my contacts on. thats pretty interesting though.
  8. haha, i love that IC on the 510 wonder if it's ever been done irl before. I kind of want to make my car a 280zg, using the front end, flares, and a spoiler, with 8in watanabe's but painted a dark midnight blue.
  9. o_O that's horrible to sell it for a mustang! unless it's something like a '69 mustang fastback (i've got a thing for all sorts of fastbacks)
  10. If i fixed my overheating problem with my fan I'm goin! (but my battery's basically dead ) hopefully the rich issue is fixed as well.
  11. T_T i have a boxer back in NC. our rat terrier is his bigger bro, and the boss. boxers are great dogs, i hope he finds a good home (btw size means nothing to dogs, they both play with each other as rough as they want. but i think it works best when the smaller dogs are the boss)
  12. a few days ago my z quit running right (started running lean) started after taking a fast left hander. the fuel pump sucked up tank crap and clogged my filter. i pulled it out and it looked like diarrhea coming out of my filter so now i have a fram filter before my pump to prevent that.
  13. i believe it's just uncommon i've got them on mine. I actually LIKE them compared to stock. with the rear overrider bar, it smooths out the bench bumper, so it's not as bad. the front does the same. the rear the front my front bar is a little bent, probably from someone pushing on the car. easy fix. i really like the rear one though.
  14. remind me to date a girl that LIKES cars.... ...oh wait...girl that works at lowes tax place...likes cars.....
  15. i agree with you about the OTHER polluters. it's easier for them to blame us classic car owners. they don't care about the OTHER major polluters. instead we're the scapegoat for it all. getting rid of old cars won't stop it, but fixing all the OTHER sources of pollution would probably have a greater impact imo.
  16. that was the ONLY good thing about NC in my county, no emissions testing. i'm HOPING my poor 280z can pass emissions once i fix everything. at this point, it's running so rich it would fail in a hearbeat. i suppose i COULD cheat the system out by bypassing the water temp sensor and hooking a couple potentiometer's to crudely tune the engine though......
  17. i know how you feel. my complex doesn't let you have unregistered vehicals AND you're not supposed to work on them. i broke both rules, haven't been caught since i'm not doing major work. unfortunatly, i've got ALL my tools in my car because i live upstairs, so lugging my tools back and forth is a pain. it really sucks having to work outside all day in AZ (you're lucky, i don't even have a garage in my complex, i work in the parking lot) the only thing i can think of is make friends with someone who has a place you can use.
  18. nope, your right. someone found that by adding the wing, it gave the z great high speed stability that it needed, however, it wasn't allowed because it wasn't "factory" therefore, they made 1000 cars to come with it factory to homologate the wing, and also had it available to buy or something
  19. I have 2 afm's for my z, one is a bosch unit that i can't use due to missing the front pipe/plate thing, the other is currently on the car. I don't believe the one on the car is correct though. it seems to large, and it appears that originally the afm would mount to the plate under it. currently, the one has no mounts to do such. now, the one ON the car, has the pipes the SAME size as the throttle body. the one NOT on the car, is much smaller, and has a rubber pipe that slips INTO the rubber pipe attached to the throttle body. i'm not sure which is right though. it seems logically the larger one is correct, however, the smaller bosch unit has 2 holes where it would mount PERFECTLY to the bracket under the afm. which one's right? if the larger one is incorrect, could it cause my car to run rich like it is? they both plug in correctly though (but i noticed 2 pins aren't used...is that normal?) oh, right. my car isn't running right now. i think the plugs might be fuel fouled, however, it ran wicked lean like it used to when i got to my house, as if something plugged up my pump.. (first, it was rich, but had good power, then it ran SO RICH that it nearly died. got most of the way home, and it ran SO LEAN that it nearly died) also, i HAD a color wiring diagram that was 400dpi that i got from Classiczcar, but they're down so i can't get it. does someone have that diagram (it was really nice, and full color) that they could email me? my email is m4xwellmurd3r@gmail.com the bosch one i found out by looking up the number, is for a mid 80's vw vanagon, so, it's deffintly not right. it was probably something laying around. ok, i was thinking about my car's problem, i THOUGHT it was rich because i THOUGHT i heard exhaust backfire, but in reality, i'll bet it was lean backfire through the intake ,and you know what else. i never took a left turn under hard acceleration like that. i'll bet my pump ate a mouthfull of tank ♥♥♥♥ and is now plugged up.
  20. I totally agree if money were no object, i'd buy up any z i found to return it to it's former glory
  21. i work at starbucks makin 7.20 an hour. I just started a little less than 3 months ago. in those 3 months, i've managed to save enough to buy my z, AND buy parts for it to fix it XP it runs the opposite of my wallet ultra rich XP
  22. same here. except instead, you need to hook the hot wire up to the fuse box, since i don't feel like hooking it up to the relay (even though the wire's under the passenger carpet XP) basically, you won't get it out of my gated apartment complex before it stalls out. I usually just pull the wire and let it stall out before i turn it off as an extra measure. the original keys were lost long ago, and it has an ignition switch from something else, so my key fits in the doors, but won't lock them.
  23. ouch the rust problem is a major bummer. from what i can tell on mine, there isn't much rust that can't be taken care of with sandpaper (but i don't care to scrape off the undercoat to find out) yep, mine still has all the original undercoating etc. splash plate somehow is rust free o_o I hope you find a good car man!
