  1. Thats my car on page 24 .That hood scoop is a factory nissan piece put out in 1974 to fix vapor lock problems on 260Z's.It required a hole to be cut in the hood underneath, just over the top of the carbs to vent heat away.Kind of a rare piece. Its listed with details in the "how to restore" book.Someone else here has one on a red car that he molded into the hood.I like the carbon fiber hood a lot, would love to have one,i just need some kind of engine compartment venting.(I still hav'nt cut a hole in my hood under it yet, still trying to decide how to best seal the air cleaner to outside fresh air).Cutting a hole in a 750 dollar hood would make my head hurt.
  2. It is so much fun to see both sides of the fence.I personally love the cars in either setup. The Z is just great in stock form, like he said,a work of design art.It is also great when modified, performance on a level rivaling or exceeding the best performance automobiles on the planet.Shame on him for implying that his view is in any way"right",or that my view is in some way inferior to his.We all just love cars.I respect so much, the guy that puts a new coat of wax on his yugo,or a bling bling muffler on his stock civic. Its a desire to make that car a reflection of his own individuality, shame on any of us who belittles him.If he wants a concours stock car, that is his business. I will see it at the show for what it is,a fine example of auto history deserving of appreciation.I would also hope that he would see other peoples cars as their right to free expression. If he truly loves cars, then he must also accept that we are all different and have just as much right as him to have a car as we each like it.Just my humble opinion.
  3. I have bought a good bit of stuff at Arizona Zcar also, and although there were a few problems, nothing that Dave did'nt take care of.Really 1st quality stuff that is holding up quite well to my constant abuse.
  4. same thing happened on mine when I put the brake setup on it.I have 1 inch spacers on mine.I just ground a little bit off and have not had any more problems. Not real happy about that groove it left in my rotor(just like yours!)
  5. I had to slot mine forward to just get the motor bolted to the mount.I do have HEI and it is real close to the firewall, but close is good enough.never had a problem in many years of V8 thrashing, including many years of autocrossing. There is probably some variance from car to car, especially if it has ever been tapped in the front.Getting all that motor in there is half the fun.....
  6. cant seem to figure out how to load a picture on this thread, but i did post some in my personal gallery
  7. how about letting me know next time you go to huntsville jack! Like to see a fellow Hybrider make a few passes.Mines going 11.6@120 1/4 around 7.6 1/8th right now.R200 and halfshafts still hanging in there(knock wood).Soon as I get Fuel pump straightened out, gonna turn up the laughing gas a little more.7.0 maybe? I'll be happy with that
  8. I guess the Z is a tough act to follow huh?
  9. I gave up on fuel mileage long ago.I guess I could tune my fuel injection for lean best torque and 2/3 throttle it through a whole tank and...and...oh,the hell with it.The car goes like a bat out of hell and I FREAKIN LOVE IT!!!! I drive it like I stole it and love every minute of it! Man,put 10 more dollars worth of gas in it and go have some more fun.mileage,scmileage.SMILE!!! :flamedevil:
  10. I had a similar problem one time I am ashamed to say.I wired the electric fan backwards. It blew air out through the radiator instead of pulling air in.was fine at idle, but got hot pretty quickly on the highway.Sometimes the simplest things......
  11. I have an extra car that may get a V8 soon,so if the stuff turns out good,I'll take it off your hands!
  12. Awsome car man! The numbers will climb as you start to get it dialed in,you're gonna be a very happy camper!! Super sanitary and blown, what more could a Z man ask for.Congrats on a great car!! I hope to see it sometime(in my rearview mirror!!)
  13. After reading all the posts,I tend to agree with several points. In the real world, overall performance numbers are going to be so close that differences could be attributed to sheer driver or equipment variance. i.e.,having autocrossed competitively for MANY years,my runs would vary AND improve over the course of a day, sometimes by several seconds.Maybe the heat of the day, temp of the tires, number of beers the night before,A smidge sooner braking on this turn or that apex,it just goes on and on. The same can be said of dragracing.RPM at launch 2500 or 2600? shift at 6000rpm or 6100rpm? Can anyone control it all closely as to actually compare the differences on 2 setups that are so very close to each other in performance potential? I think not. I applaud the effort very much, but the results will be skewed in the direction of personal preference by all involved.JTR guys will says theirs are better for this reason or that,Scarab guys, the same thing. The bottom line is,both setups have their pluses and minuses, but they are so small as to really be negligable. The only thing you will prove in the end is which car the chosen driver did better in,not which setup is really superior.I would love to be the driver for this test though, nothing compares to thrashing a hot Z around for days on end!! Just my two cents worth, and my opinion is worth what you paid for it! By the way,I love your mag.!
  14. another possibility might be ground problems.Make sure you have a good ground from the engine block to the battery as well as from the battery to the chassis somewhere.Zero corrosion anywhere in the cables and extra clean and tight connections.Although the starter pulls a lot of amps ,it should not smoke the cables until it has spun for quite a while if ever.measure current draw on the starter.not sure exactly what it shoud read, but probably not more than 200 to 250 amps unless your compression is crazy high.Gear reduction is the best way to go in any case if you are buying a new starter anyway.Good luck with it
  15. your car looks really familiar, see my pics? great job,I could'nt have done it better myself ,( see, I tried! )
  16. what you should do is look real dumb and say"yea, you're probably right, that pintang(oops,I meant Mustang) of yours is AWWWsome, lets go out on the interstate and you show me what its all about!!!"".And dont forget to be polite, give him a generous head start so that when you go by him,he will feel like an F-15 just did an afterburn flyby. The Crying will start soon,so dont let tears get to you,he will recover after spanking a couple of stock ricers with 5" fart pipes and big stickers.THAT is the guy you've been waiting for ALL your V8Z's life.Cherish the moment. It brings A tear to my eye....sniff...sniff
  17. having moved from a relativly well modded I6,tripple 50mm carbs, header, cam, port work, ign etc.etc... to a v8 sbc was a no brainer.going around a banked turn at an autocross event at Talladega GP track at max sweet spot in the rpm range of the I6 and the car just drove around the turn.I WAS PISSED!!! After the v8,I could drive and aim the car with the go pedal and step the rear out at will, and REALLY blast out of a turn.with proper setup the car handles at least as well as before and i think overall balance is even better.steering is heavier but i attribute that to gigantic wheel tire combos as compared to skinny stock 195/70-14 setup. You WILL love the V8.I promise
  18. find and talk to your nearest Mac tool guy.we sell a fiberoptic boroscope for around 250 bucks and he may have a customer who has purchased one who might let you use it for free or a small fee?those things are priceless in a spot like you are in.the shaft is flexable and you can snake it down into the intake pretty easily all the way to the valves if necessary.Good luck
  19. I got mine from nissan motorsports,as I recall it was about $125 plus shipping. All receipts MUST be destroyed so the wife never see's them.......
  20. I had a little leaking problem a while back similar to you,the problem turned out to be not the way i was sealing the intake, instead, not having adequate crankcase ventilation.that intake seal is probably the weakest seal on a SBC.excess crankcase pressure, especially at higher RPMs WILL cause an intake leak.Make sure you have good crankcase ventilation through both valve covers through the PCV valve or vent filters on BOTH sides, this will greatly reduce pressure on all your seals and reduce leak problems .good luck with it!
  21. the long water pump setup is what i used.brackets are easy to come by in chrome and cheap too.room for the long pump is a non issue as there is plenty.the a/c bracket would have to be fabricated if you use the nissan compressor.hopefully your cyl heads have acc. mounting holes(some do not).just look at lots of posted pics and you should be on your way.good luck!
