  1. Fantastic work there! Like others have said, I didn't think a ZX could look this good. Keep up the great work!
  2. I just went through the whole thread, some fantastic inspiration on this site! Here are my projects, a 2/71 and 3/71: The red one is my new-to-me rust free shell (Thanks bucket240z!) and my blue Z which has turned into a parts donor. The blue one isn't terrible in terms of rust though just need a lot more time to get it going. Might use it for a track car in the future. The red one has Eibachs, Illuminas, and I need to install the ES poly bushings. Can't wait to have her back on the road!
  3. Is the car running yet? A vid would be awesome!
  4. IIRC, by working the equation backwards (starting with a given area and unknown radius) two 2.12" pipes would have the same cross sectional area as a single 3". So yes, the 2" and 2.25" are the closest standard pipe sizes.
  5. Two 1.5 inch pipes do not have the same cross sectional area! I believe it was Tony who made a good example that I'll try to paraphrase: draw a 3" circle, and then draw two 1.5" circles inside of it. You can get a visual of the loss of cross sectional area, with the twin 1.5" losing 50% over a 3"! It may feel like to you like it has more torque, but only a dyno will truly show you the difference.

Little info on the E31??? Search E31 and you will find all you need.
  7. Wow, that is awesome work! I would also go with the acorn nuts, they look very clean. I know you mentioned hammertone paint, but it was unclear as to what you ultimately used. Do you mind telling us what paint you used? It looks great!
  8. +1 for the video, that is one sweet build! Looks very clean and well done, nice job!
  9. Have you guys tried cleaning the connections and tightening the battery cables. This has happened to me multiple times in different cars. All I did was clean the battery cable connections and tighten them the the battery snugly. Good luck!
  10. That's funny, my girlfriend saw the Lambo on the news today and told me about it. I really can't think of how stupid the Lambo driver is. I don't care what happened, a Murcielago should never rear end an SUV!!!
  11. I was driving about 5-6 years ago on 280 in San Francisco and I was in the left lane passing other cars. I see this black Mercedes coming up, cutting off and tailgating every car in his path. I really thought the guy was drunk because he was the most insane driver I had seen on the road at that point. He was missing other cars by inches! Of course he starts tailing me and I would not let this idiot harass me so of course I hit the pedal enough to make the lights come on. The guy swerves onto the left shoulder and then continues to pass me on the right getting very close to my rear bumper. As I look over, he just stares coldly ahead. It was a very close call. I find it works to drive a bit slower than other traffic because I really don't have to worry about all the assholes, they just pass me. I try to keep it at 65-67 on the freeway and this way I save on gas and don't get bothered by anyone. Whenever I have to drive faster I find I'm always more high strung, especially as I do a good number of long drives every year. I started doing this on trips from SF to San Diego, and I found that it really calms me down to stay right and let others pass instead of having to continually pass people because I'm going faster. Yeah, sometimes they tailgate and I usually just try to make eye contact through the rear view. Honestly, I feel like that works a lot of the time. I think I cured my semi-road rage problems by just calming down and driving slower.
  12. We don't even know what carbs you have. If they are Hitachi (SU style) then pumping the pedal will do nothing. The carbs probably need cleaning and adjustment, if you're sure the other systems in the car are okay.
  13. Here's our Doberman (Not on a Datsun, please!) named Bo (friggin' Obama dog stole his name, haha!): Here's Bo with my roommate's crazy Catahoula I guess he was comfortable... We adopted him 12/15/07 from a shelter and he is an amazing dog!
  14. I was also thinking of doing my '71 in orange with black accents and you've done a terrific job. What's even better is that you did it all yourself and that kind of stuff really motivates me to do the best I can with my project. Great job!
  15. I use the nitrile gloves all the time and I don't mind feeling what I'm handling a little less. They definitely help with working in a cold garage, and cleanup is a lot easier
  16. I assume by "natural supercharging" you mean achieving volumetric efficiency above 100% at a certain point(s) in the rev band. I would think that this phenomenon is a much stronger function of runner geometry than amount of cylinders, since this effect comes from pressure pulses caused by the resonance of the runners. As for the main topic, I would think that the V12 would be at a disadvantage in terms of the frictional losses already mentioned. At some point, having more cylinders will give diminishing returns.
  17. Consider yourself very lucky for you and your dad to be able to accomplish this. It looks like it'll be a fun project. You'll learn A LOT by having to essentially build the car up and work on all the car's systems. Good luck! I wish my dad and I had the resources and time to be able to do something like this when I was younger.
  18. That's the exact setup I've been contemplating for my '71. The more I see and hear the twice pipes, the more I like them. Big thanks for posting the video!
  19. The one above looks like the Acura Integra's ugly little brother, hehe!
  20. Awesome thread just read the whole thing! I was wondering if you've adjusted the valves at all. That might smooth out the running of your Z if everything else checks out OK.
  21. That's one of the most beautiful Z's I've seen, and it's a 2+2. What has the world come to!!! Awesome car Jay! Here is my work in progress.
