Welcome to my neighborhood! I like the GG Park suggestion (the Academy of Sciences is a must if you're at the park) and Lands End is beautiful as well. Walking the Golden Gate Bridge is awesome too especially on a nice, clear day. The rest probably depends on how you like spending time when you travel. If you like touristy places, you can walk up Telegraph hill to Coit Tower, drive down Lombard, walk around Pier 39, reserve an Alcatraz tour (if they're not already sold out), etc. If you like baseball, I'd highly recommend catching a Giants game, the ballpark is awesome. If you want to do less touristy stuff and hang out in local spots, I'd walk around the Marina and catch lunch at one of the cafes. Crissy Field is nearby as well. You can rent bikes from Sports Basement and ride around 'til you can't anymore! Since you'd be close to the Golden Gate Bridge, you could rent bikes and ride across instead of walking if you feel like climbing some hills initially. Fort Funston is a fun beach walk and is also dog-heaven if you guys like dogs. For a twistier driving experience, head to Vermont street on Potrero Hill instead of Lombard. If you want to head outside of SF, drive some sweet roads and catch a delicious and relaxing lunch, go to Alice's Cafe at 4-Corners (Hwy 84 & 35). It's a well-known hangout for bike riders and car guys. If you want quiet and peaceful, go during the week. If you want to see some action and meet a bunch of like-minded people, head up on a weekend. There's a ton of stuff to do, honestly. Hey Jim, good to hear from you! The Bilsteins are easy to source as they're designed for the Mk1 VW Rabbit and readily available, unlike the Z-specific ones. It's the gland nuts that are hard to find. The gland nuts make it essentially a plug-and-play deal. The car has some sort of old-school coilovers with unknown spring rates. The plan is to remove the springs and measure stiffness, and then dyno the shocks to establish a baseline as well as to see if they'll need revalving to match the car. Lucky for me, there's a great shock shop right by my work that can revalve Bilsteins! We also have a home-made shock dyno at our shop in case I want to go crazy.

I'll admit I had to look him up. At least one of his bikes is on display in Wellington! Credit goes to Wikipedia...

Suspension geometry will change, but you won't lose any bump travel.

Ah, I forgot to ask for it! I was planning on stopping by a shock shop by my work to see if they have it or can source one. Where did you get yours?

The shocks have arrived! I made sure to test-fit the gland nut onto a strut housing to make sure it's correct. I got the part number from John Coffey, thanks again John. Got the whole setup from AJUSA, who were fantastic to deal with!

I'm curious if the ignition settings differ between your MS1 and MS2 setups, whether the difference be in the software or hardware. I'm not very knowledgeable with MS, not yet at least, so unfortunately I can't be of much help outside of general stuff.

I've got a collection of 3 old-school L-series headers hanging in the garage now, not sure if I want to break that up! I do have some cool stuff that I may decide to get rid of...

Maybe pull the seal out and see how it fits to check whether it's the seal or splines?

It should be an easy fit, are you sure it's the correct driveshaft?

Congrats! I'm commuting from San Bruno to Sonoma so I feel your pain. At least it's 5 miles shorter each way than my old SB-Petaluma commute, but still, it's a 90 mile round trip with SF in between. Lucky for me, the green car already has coilovers and rebuilt suspension! All I have to do is install the Bilsteins and camber plates. I'm sure you're excited to get your Z back on the road soon and try your own P30s out! Ha, you know I did! With some help, I also sourced the proper gland nuts so all that needs to be done is for me to cut up some spacers to fit the inserts properly. Also in the plans is a 123ignition distributor but I may have to free up some more funds to accomplish that. Looks like some more parts will be for sale, now that my other Z is sold!

Ha, I was just looking at car rental options and was glad just for the simple fact that I can rent a car with a manual gearbox! Good luck with that in the US... XR6 sounds amazing, it would be fun to drive something we don't get in the States. No guarantees, I'm looking for the full experience here.

We're also considering spending the entire 2 weeks on North Island, instead of spending all the extra travel time to get to South Island for the second half of our trip and back to Auckland for the return flight to San Francisco. I'd love to explore it all but 2 weeks may not be enough and I don't want our trip to be too frantic...

I was JUST about to ask about Milford! It was highly recommended by a friend of mine. We're going to look into doing the Milford Track, unless there's a reason not to?

Ouch, I haven't made any updates since I started a new job last October! I've managed to do some little things here and there, mostly related to the fuel system. The regulator is mounted, the old feed/return lines cut and ready to adapt the AN fittings, but the $30 OSH tubing bender was not cutting (bending?) it. It would either kink or flatten the lines. I decided I wanted to do it right so I bought a 5/16" bender made by Rigid and it works worlds better! I'm hoping to finish this project up by this weekend and pressure test all my connections. The cam has yet to be pulled, so that will be the next project in line. I've got a replacement cam ready to send out but Isky wanted to look at the wiped one as well. After some thinking, my best hypothesis is that one of the rockers was poorly prepped before installation, leaving a micro-ridge on the closing ramp of that lobe which eventually eroded the cam. We'll see what they say. I bought all-new rockers and will be installing them with the reground cam, and re-checking wipe to be sure. Finally, I also wanted to cure my rear suspension camber issue as well as get new inserts. I placed an order for a set of new Bilstein P30-0032 yesterday and will be figuring out how to adapt them to my setup after I get them. I'm hoping the DP bolt-in camber plates will work but that remains to be seen.
