The thing is, it's better for NA applications as well because of the load-sensing ability that MSD doesn't have without the additional MAP sensor. Plus, there's something to be said (and already has been) about getting a brand-new distributor over a 30-year-old unit.

An old Nissan distributor with MSD is not nearly in the same league as 123. Fully-programmable is just that, you can create a 3D ignition map based on RPM, MAP, and spark advance. The MSD only allows a 2D map based on RPM and advance, plus it utilizes a used distributor with a bushing that has seen 30+ years of wear...

Do what is easiest within your budget and gets the car back on the road without more delay. Parts can be changed later, a project in stages is more fun for me anyway then doing a million things in one fell swoop. -

I was going to say the same. Make sure the rod caps are oriented correctly AND on the correct rod. Either mistake will seize the engine and/or destroy bearings and possibly make the rods go out of round from getting torqued down on the wrong rod.

Finally mounted up the exhaust, buttoned everything up, and drove it for the first time since last summer! New clutch and shifter bushings feel awesome. Now I just need to tune the carbs, fix the exhaust leaks (i.e. fab new exhaust), and give 'er a good wash.
