  1. We found a 12 valve SOHC Ford Probe today for $100 and it runs! This is going to be our back up car though I think. John, your are probably right. Neither of us have any dirt track racing experience. We were going to start out in hobby stock(stock V8 in cars like Monte's and Cutlas's). But we decided against because we dont really feeling dieing this early in life! LOL Plus we would probably just be in the way out there with the guys that actually know what they are doing! This should be a fun learning experice. The good part is there are 3 guys at work that race. One was running the late models. And 2 run go karts. So we should get some good advice on what and how to do things. Guy
  2. Are you going to a 5 lug set up? Is it a +25mm or -25mm offset? Guy
  3. Raising the compression might be doable because from what I understand the guys that actually check to see if your legal are morons. They cant even figure out that the late model class, that one of the guys that I work with, harlf the guys are running 383-406 strokers! We cant port anything because it would be too obvious if they torn us down. Race gas is probably legal but unless we raise the compression enough and tune for it wont be of any use. We have to run the stock PCM. If we can get more air though we can probably change injectors to get more fuel with out them knowing. As for the cam, if we go bigger it will need a tune. We will have to see if anyone tunes these PCM's. I think I found out that we can swap the 2.0L SOHC head onto a 2.4L DOHC block so this is good news! Guy
  4. Me and a buddy from work are going to be racing the 4 cylinder class at the local dirt tracks this summer. We are planning on using a 1st Gen Neon because we work at a Dodge dealership and parts will be cheaper if we need sensors and such. The rules say it has to be a SOHC engine. We cant run a header or fancy intake either or port anything out. It has to be stock(well it has to appear stock! ). So Im looking for some info on what we can do to a 2.0L SOHC Neon engine. We are looking into wether or not the 2.4L block will fit with the 2.0L SOHC head but are still unsure at this point. That would pick up some HP&TQ Im sure but we will see if its doable first. I really doubt there are a lot of people swapping a SOHC onto a DOHC engine! LOL Like everyone else at the track....we'll "bend" the rules but we dont want to raise any suspicion!
  5. Yup I bet thats the problem. I did the same thing with my injectors before I realized what I did wrong.
  6. Im pretty sure with that kit you still need the optispark for the PCM to know where the cam and crank are. The spark doesnt go through the optispark unit anylonger though. Do your homework before you spend $700 on a coilpack system. Guy
  7. Yes if its melted you will need a new MAP sensor . You cant run with out it. Guy
  8. If your going to go with a turbo set up stay with the SBC. You wont need the extra cubes to make up for the power because you'll have a turbo or turbos.
  9. Yeah maybe the guy who ran the fuel line pulled the distributor out to get better access and damaged it or put it back in wrong? Guy
  10. Well maybe getting your harness modified by someone who knows what they are doing is a good idea? The power and grounds will have to be run right from the PCM to the proper power wires and to a sutiable ground. I know you dont see any "open ended" wires but if you read the wiring diagram and understand it you will know what we mean. Guy
  11. Well if you already had all the parts to build that car you could sell them for $100K for 100% profit.... That $1.2 Million does seem awfully low though? Guy
  12. I have the MSD pump as well. I have it mounted in the same spot as my old stock fuel pump(1980 280ZX. However I put a few layers of rubber hosing around the pump to dampen the noise some. I also have rubber line running from the pump to the tank and to the supply line(like Pete suggested). Mine isnt really all that loud. The only time I can hear it is when I turn the key on before I start it. Guy
  13. Now I havent seen this on any small blocks but I did see this on a Dodge 4.7L... The engine was running like ok but not normal. It had a lost of power and felt like a slight misfire but nothing was showing up on the OBD2 misfire monitors with the scanner. What it turned out to be is the dowl that holds the cam sprocket on the drivers side had broken and the sprocket spun just a little causing the timing to be off. If it's not too hard you could always put the 3/8" line back in and see if the problem goes away. Did you check your tune with a wideband after installing the new fuel line? Maybe it changed enough to cause it to run rich? Guy
  14. If you buy a factory service manual or do what I did and get a subscription to ALLDATA ONLINE, you will be able to figure out what you need and dont need. There are a few power and ground that come right out of the PCM. Some power wires will need to be wired to fused +12V battery feed and some will need to be wired to fused +12V ignition feed. Its really quite simple once you get a wiring diagram infront of you just as long as you can read a wiring diagram. Here are the wiring diagrams that I used...1995 LT1 Wiring. If you can understand those you will be able to figure it out just fine. You dont need the big fuse box but you could use it if you wanted to. Guy
  15. Talk about having too much time on your hands! Guy
  16. I remebere 2 summers ago when I first had it on the road after the LT1 swap... I was driving through and intersection in the middle of town when some kid in a Cavalier jumps out of the window and sat on the door(he was the passenger) and started hooting and haulering and gave a 2 big thumbs up! It was crazy and the funnest thing I've ever seen while driving my car. I too miss that feeling but hopefully she'll be back on the road this summer! Guy
  17. Is it even possible to install it backwards? I now have a SPEC Stage 3 clutch also but I dont think its possible to put it in backwards because the pressure plate wont sit flat on the flywheel because the disc is pushing up on the PP? Either way it doesnt look good. Best find out what happend before reinstalling a new clutch. Guy
  18. Please tell me thats not duct tape in the 2nd to last pic holding on your air ducting.... Guy
  19. "Hybridz, where if it don't fit we make it fit!"
  20. When I swapped my 93LT1 harness out for the 95 harness I went through each connector on the PCM and actually removed the pin right from the connector for the stuff that I didnt need. So I dont have a bunch on wire ends just hanging there. You will need power and ground to the PCM plus a few other fused power wires going to the harness. Not a big deal with a good wiring diagram. The Gauges are wired sperate from the engine harness and PCM. You would have a few wires going to the cluster from the PCM but thats it. If you go with aftermarket gauges all you will really need is the VSS wires. As far as the check engine light, you will have to edit the PCM to turn off codes that wont apply to your engine. Things like the VATS, EGR, auto tranny codes, and other emissions stuff can be turned off with just a click on Tunercat. I wouldnt have paid $275 for someone to do what I did to the harness in a few hours of my time but I like doing everything myself, plus I saved a few bucks! Guy
  21. You can edit the harness so that it will support a T56 rather than the 4L60e. You just have to take out some of the wires on the harness. You can get an OBD1 connector from any OBD1 car and just wire it up to the PCM where it needs to be wired. I would not pay $500 for a harness after seeing how easy it was to edit the harness. You just have to a have a decent understanding of electrical. You dont have to be a wiring genius but you still have to know to read a wiring diagram. Editing the harness does take some time though... Wiring in a check engine light is very easy with a wiring diagram. Just wire it up the same way the factory did it. Guy
  22. I think if they put some flashing lights and maybe a horn on that tire deflator the thief would see it for sure! LOL Its too big and obvious if you ask me. I like the idea behind it but they need to work on the size of it. Im sure they could make it smaller. Guy

    clutch life?

Indeed I did! Ok now I fully understand what your saying. Guy

    clutch life?

Well I have never heard that leaving the vehicle in gear and using the clutch as a parking brake is a bad thing. I dont see how it can hurt it? It would be putting the same about of stress on the cluch as it would if you were driving. Now holding the clutch pedal in at a stop, that I know is not good for it. Guy
