  1. The only thing I would be concerned about is the fact that its a truck motor so you will have to change the cam unless you like pulling stumps out! LOL But for $275 for even a short block like that it's still a deal! Guy
  2. I am finally starting the process of switching my LT1 over from the 93' computer to the 94-95' computer. I just purchased a harness from a 95' TA. Now the harness is for a Auto tranny but the only thing that goes to my tranny from the computer right now is the VSS signal wires. Now will I have to run with a MAF sensor or can it be defaulted to the speed density? Do I have to run the MAF to have the multiport injection or will it go to a bank fire like it is now with out that? Oh and does running a MAF make more power due to the air intake being measure more accuratetly? How do you guys with the TunerCat know what kind of changes to be made are needed? Do you all have wideband O2 sensor like an LM-1? Or are you guys just going to a dyno? I personally like the idea of a LM-1! Also can someone tell me if the 94-95' O2 sensors are heated? I know I will have to buy a few new sensors due to the connectors being different or sensor being different. Oh an just how much modifing does the factory harness need? I know there are somthings that I can delete from the harness like any emission stuff, cruise control and A/C. What other mods are needed? Thanks guys! Guy
  3. Hahahahaha! Oh come on they know a little bit? Ok so sometimes its like your speaking a foreign language with them! If you just talk really loud and talk with your hands they will understand it eventually! LOL:lol: Guy
  4. Well atleast I learned something from this post! I never thought of an EFI system with out a feedback sensor like the O2 sensor. I just figured they(EFI systems) all had them! Now I wonder why the guys at MSA(who are in CA) were so confused about me not having an EGR system on my 280ZX......shouldnt they have known that the CA model didnt have EGR? LOL Thanks for the info Larry! Guy

    Headers for 350V8 ZX

Here's a pic of the header that I made for my LT1 powered 280ZX with the recipocating ball type P/S system.... I have it JET HOT COATED now though. Looks nice but I have 2 very small leaks that I need to fix this winter and then have it recoated. And yes I know that not having equal length pipes is not ideal but its better than a manifold! And I dont have to explain why I have a manifold on one side a a header on the other! Oh and if you have D-Ports the stock LT1 manifold will clear the steering gear box with some very very minor trimming on the manifold. It would only take about 5 minutes to make an LT1 manifold fit. I had one on my car until I made the header and it rubbed just a little bit on the steering gear box when Iwould make right hand turns(motor would shift just enough so that I could feel a vibration in the steering wheel). The LT1 passenger side does not fit though, but you could use a ram horn style of manifold for that side, which is found on a lot of 70's 350's. Guy Guy
  6. You bring up a good point GrayZee, I was wondering the same thing about the older L28E's not having a feedback system. The US probably had more strick guidelines and that might explain why the US models had more sensors to help control emissions? Guy
  7. My Christmas was pretty good, minus one relative.... My family consists of one step dad, two step sisters, one blood sister, 2 half brothers, and 1 half sister. I spent Christmas with my GF for the first time in 6 years! Her mother is extremly close to her parents(grandparents of my GF) and she(GF's mom) thinks that all the holidays should be spent with her side of the family, so that has ment me not spending the holidays with my GF for the pas 5+ years....yeah it sucks! Not this year though, this year my GF said F-THAT Im spending the holidays with my BF of 5+years! LOL It was really nice. The only complaint that I have this holiday is one of my step sisters shafted me again.......no gift at all!!!!! Yeah last year she did the same thing! I figured maybe she forgot and this year I will get something, its not that Im greedy but I figure if I can go out and get something for her she can go out and get something for me? I mean come on it Christmas! But no, this year I get nothing! I got her a movie, which as it turns out she already had it so I told her I would exchange it for one she doesnt have......well instead she just asked for the receit so that she can go exchange it herself! Yeah HOW RUDE! Sorry but next year I will not be getting anything for her! She's on my $hit list for sure! Am I wrong to think like this? I think after putting up with this for 2 years I have a right to be PO'd. Anyways.......... I got a $100 gas card, a toaster oven(this thing looks pretty cool!),and a pot & pan set from my Mom and Step Dad. I got plates, bowls, silverware, can opener, spatula(sp?), and some M&M's from my sister. I got a comedy DVD from my Step Sister(the nice one!). And my GF got me a MAXIUM bikini calander and a she's trying really hard to find one of those SKI-DOO remote control snowmobiles....yeah she waited till the last week to go out and try to buy one! LOL It's ok I can wait. And my GF really like the digital camera that I got her! She was very surprized that I got her such a nice one. She was expecting a much cheaper/crappy one! LOL I got to talk to my best friend who is over in IRAQ yesterday too. Im not sure where exactly he his but his kinda depressed about being over there for Christmas. When he came home for his 2 week break he met a girl and they are very close for only knowing each other for such a short period of time. I think thats why hes so sad. That and he told me he was very close to being killed by a road side bomb. Not good news. So I think talking with him helped him realize that we are all praying for him and his safe return in 2 months. I hope everyone who knows someone over there emailed, called, or wrote them...I cant imagine how much that must suck being over there for Christmas. If you didnt then get on the phone, computer or get that pen and paper out and write them!!!!!! They need our support this time of year! Happy Holidays to all! Guy
  8. FACTS.......... These numbers are from http://zhome.com/ and it is a very reputable site for Z car history info. Now since HP was measured at the flywheel for the 280Z we can "guestimate" that the 149HP that the 280Z had at the flywheel is about 127HP at the wheels with a 15% drivetrain loss on a MANUAL tranny and about 120HP on a auto tranny with a 20% drivetrain loss. So I think it would be safe to say that the 280ZX did have more power but the early 280Z's weighted less and the 77-78's were about the same as a 280ZX at around 2900 lbs. Datsunlover, how can your L28E not have an O2 sensor? Its kind of a major sensors for EFI? Oh and my L28E that was in my 80' 280ZX did not have an EGR system, stock. I think if I remember it had an N42 head? The guys at MSA were a little confused when I told them I didnt have an EGR when I bought a header for it? Guy
  9. Well I have never heard of the 280ZX weighing less than GEN 1 Z but most of the time people are comparing the 280ZX to a 240Z and we all know the 240Z weighs a lot less than a 280ZX. Here's what I think.... The 280Z has more sports car features than the 280ZX and the 280ZX has more luxurey items like P/S, P/W, cushey seats, T-Tops(personal opinion, I love them), 4 wheel disc. I think that the later 280Z's are very close in comparision when it comes to weight due to the larger bumpers and any added structural metal due to updated regulations. The power should also be very similar, they both had the L28E but I think(not to sure) the 280ZX had more sensors and probably had better EFI than the 280Z, again Im not sure on that one. The 280Z from a motor swap stand point is a better car due to the larger engine bay. The 280ZX's firewall is 3" farther forward than the 280Z and it can make fitting bigger engines in the 280ZX a little more complex. I know with my SBC in my 280ZX there isnt any room between the fan and the motor, of course I could have set my engine back about 2 more inches but didn't. Guy
  10. I seem to have lost one of my center caps for my 17x7 Konig Monsoons rims. It seems that the dust boot for my wheel bearings came off up front and popped the center cap off and now I have to find a dust boot and center cap. I have been watching Ebay but no luck. As far as I konw Konig does not make these rims any longer and I cant find a homepage for them thats in English! lol So where can I get a center cap, or if I have to buy 4 new ones I will? Thanks, Guy
  11. A lot of guys say the same thing about new weather stripping which is pretty explainable......their new and not "broken in". Do you have any pictures of the homemade weather stripping? Guy
  12. Well they dont live down there, they just "go south" for the winter. So Im not exactly sure where they are right now. But they go to Texas, Mexico, and usually "swing" by Florida to see my Aunt every year. They have a fifth wheel they they tow and just say south till the winters over. Guy
  13. Hehe, my Grandparents called us today from Texas and told us about the 1" of snow that they got! Thats just crazy! He said they last time Texas got snow as like 1892 or something! Merry Christmas everyone and I hope you all got what you wanted! Guy
  14. Yeah when the PCV stops working it often causes oil leaks from places like the valve covers, oil pan gasket, and front crank seal. Atleast thats what Ive seen. Guy
  15. Yes it will fit..........No it will not fit with out a lot of fabrication. If you going to road race with it you will not want a BBC over a SBC. And you dont need 600HP for a road racer. IMHO The BBC is great if you .... A. want to be differnt(very few of these coversions), B. plan to do a lot of drag racing or, C. like to fabricate....cause it sure wont fit very easy unless you are a very good fabricator(when I say fit good I mean... set back and dropped down as far as can be......not just dropped in and cut a big hole in the hood so you can put the aircleaner and intake on!) Guy
  16. Well from working in a Dodge dealership for the last 2 years I can tell you that if your looking into a midsize truck then get a Dakota with the 4.7L. That engine is pretty much bullet proof and the trannys(45RFE) that go behind them. Unlink the Caravan trannys! The new Dakota with the 4.7 liter HO is putting out about 250HP & over 300FT-TQ! Which makes its towing capacity 7000 lbs. Not too bad for a mid-size truck. However if you going to buy new just get a HEMI Ram 1500 over the new Dakota. The Ram "only" costs about $3500 more and you get a much bigger/roomier truck. The HEMI's are also proving to be a great engine. We havent had any issues with the 5.7L Hemi or the (545RFE) tranny's, unlike the old Ram trannys. The only really problems with the Dakotas and Rams are the crappy emissions systems. They set codes for emissions leaks and that can get annoying but other than that nothing major. As for the ball joints on the Dakota/Durangos, its not like they fail over night......these things WILL clunk when they get loose or if they dry out they creek over bumps. These people who had their "wheels fall off" are just stupid cheap a$$es who didnt want to pay to get their trucks fixed! Sorry ball joints dont last for ever(sorry had to vent a little there!LOL) Guy
  17. Well my GF of 5+ years is getting a nice digital camera. I originally budgeted about $175-200 but after getting a check for $300 from my Grandma & Grandpa for xmas I decieded to get her a better camera than originally planned so I spent $360 on a 4.0MP Nikon camera. She only wanted a 3.0MP but the only 3.0MP cameras left now are crap so I just took that "extra money" that I didnt think I had and spent in on her! Yeah I could have bought 90% of my new flywheel that I need but she deserves it more than I do. She's in school, studying to be a dieatition(sp?) and then is going on to get her masters and PHD. So she's the one who will be bringing home the bacon after like 5+ more years of school! She doesnt really have a full time job and thats a good thing because she can keep that 3.98GPA going and get what ever job she wants when she gets out of school. So buying her a really nice present instead of a just ok present will really make her happy and in return make me happy. It all about giving! I on the other hand am getting nothing but stuff to move out on my own.....dishes, silverware, toaster, etc..... I am finally moving out at the age of 22:oops: when my buddy gets back from IRAQ in March. So Im not exactly excited about opening my gifts this year. Oh well atleast I wont have to go out and buy all that crap! Merry Christmas everyone!!!!! Guy
  18. Although mine is not a 240,260,or 280Z........mine is a 280ZX with a SBC LT1/T56! Not painted yet but should be before this spring/summer! I have lots of pics and info on my site too! Guy
  19. If I could get an aluminum one for $105 I would but I have never ever seen a T56 flywheel go for $105(NIB) much less an aluminum one! If you can find the sellers name that would be great! Guy
  20. I wish I could afford the McCloud twin disc set up but I just cant swing the $1100 for the set up. I am going to go with the CF steel flywheel but I have a question. Summit lists 2 flywheels for the LT-based engine family. One says it will fit the "6 speed that came with the Corvette from 92-96" and the other just says fits LT-based engines from 92-97? The one that fits the Corvette is only $302 where as the other is $353. Was the Corvette LT1 attached to a T56 or a ZF6 through those years? I would like to know if I can buy the $302 flywheel instead of the $353 flywheel! Thanks, Guy
  21. I am not a turbo guy but I know I have read on hear that the 3.54 is better for the turbo because it puts more of a load on the turbo so it can spool up easier? For a NA car yes the 3.9 will make it a little faster but Im not too sure about this in a turbo application? Guy
  22. I didnt take any offense to your comment. I know you were just trying to be helpful. I am just trying to say that Im not switching over to a T5 when I already have the T56 set up. I think Summit is the cheapest place. $302 for teh CF billet steel flywheel. Is there anyone out there running this flywheel? I have also see the SLP flywheels for about $350. I would spend the extra money if the SLP is a better flywheel. I am not impressed with the CFDF clutch that I had in there! I can tell you that! So if their flywheels are the same junk then I dont want anything to do with them! Guy
  23. Well I was not about to sacrafice the stock strength of the T56 for a WCT5, plus the T56 was part of the deal when I bought my LT1. I just wish parts were a little cheaper thats all. I would have thought that since the LS1 is becoming so poplular in the hotrodding crowd that the prices of the LT1 stuff would drop but so far I havent seen that too much. Guy
