  1. I am going to guess that they are vaccum acctuators for the exhaust like a cut out valve. Say when you hit full throttle (zero vac) the exhaust goes to an open pipe. This is just a guess but it know ferrari's do this, but i believe they are computer controlled above certain rpms.
  2. yeah that car is very classy, love the bumpers!
  3. here are a couple pictures of my car... I ran without a bumper for a while and liked it, but i think a thin 240z style bumper really completes things... something just always looked missing without the bumpers, mainly in the front. The MSA fiberlgass ones are a cheap and lightwight weight alternative to re chroming or buying euro 240z bumpers. Also you dont really need to buy 240z mounting braket if you dont have them they would literally take about an hour to make and you could make them so the bumpers sit jsut right.... just my opinion before: After:
  4. Looking absolutly awesome as always! I love to see your progress as you continue building this beast. I really liek the cage design and Have always wanted ot do something mre custom. i was curious what you were useing to bend hte pipe. I see the bender in the floor, are you really useing that? I tried a similar type with absolutely no luck, perhaps I had the wrong dies. -Austin
  5. You dont need a speacial intercooler for hte rb26 swap its just liek anything else. James units sure are nice, but if you are fabbing i/c piping you can get any i/c to work. Check out ebay and save yoruself a couple hundred bucks.
  6. I cut one of mine two short, I got two turns in on the gland nut. I drove it for a hundred miles it came out. I ended up cutting my strut housing again below the weld and getting another housing chooping the top off of it longer and using that. Oh and another thing I used OLD struts to stick inside to keep the wire from protruding inside the tubing. Oh and antoehr thing lol, make sure they are ABSOLUTLEY straight along with your spring perches, one of mine is a hair off and it is rubbing through the threaded sleeve at the top. Live and learn i guess.
  7. haha yeah wait a bit guys you can get a high res one
  8. To each his own, I cant stand bubbly flares like the imsa ones etc. My car sits level and I cant stand fender gap in between the wheel and the fender.... so to make my car look the way I want the rear ended up being a little lower in comparison to the body line you drew.... Again its all up to the type of suspension you have, your ride height, and how you want it to look. There really isnt a specific place to mount ZG flares... heres a pic of my car from the side, you can see how the flares sit in relation to wheels: *please do not save this picture or link it anywhere else*
  9. I have always wanted ot see box flares on a Z but the line that you drew off of is way too low for the flare. It would need to be in between the two stock body lines.
  10. No I dont think its possible, if you looks at the design of the inner fender it cant very well be pinched together, especially if you cut it up higher like johnc. I tink youll end up warping hte fender and it would also leave a sharp edge. But who knows give it a try and let us know!
  11. Ill be the first to say: thats disgusting.
  12. arent you on r180 and maxima cv axles or whatever, or was that jsut quoc that switched over? But on a side note you are also running 225 tires and dont ever drag the car...
  13. me too , and cv axles are soooo much quieter and nicer.
  14. WOW That thing is absolutly gorgeous, ive never seen those flares look that good. Love the color!
  15. haha one of those is a supercharger, and there is no way that woudl fit like that lol.
  16. Looks really nice! I like what you did with the bumpers! +1 for making a 280z look great, especially black since it shows everything.
  17. Hey, On the exhaust thing, after hearing gabe's car i did the same thing. I am running a 3" DP and exhaust with a dynomax bullit muffler right after the downpipe, and then a dynomax ultraflo SS muffler at the back. I ran with just the ultraflo for a while and it had really bad drone. Now with my wastegate plumbed back in and the resonator there the car is completely different, no drone, and very quiet under boost. I love it. I reccomend you pick up a bullit muffler off jegs for 37 bucks and have them put that in! Both mufflers are straight through in design then this is the most important thing for a turbo. I had a flowmaster 40 series on my car many many moons ago and that thing was absolute trash. I picked up 2 tenths in the 1/8 mi!!!!!!!! when i took it off, huge restriction. Good luck with your project.
  18. Here are some pictures of what I did to matt's car. This was a 280z, matt drilled off all the tabs and mounting brackets and then i went back and filled all the holes. Matt wanted the painless wires run inside the engine compartment to make them easier to access and help with simplicity. On my car I ran the wires under the fender in a loom so I dont ahev any wires at all on my fenders. Painless wiring is one of hte best things you can do to clean up the engine compartment.
  19. Those wheels are VOLK GT-C wheels if im not mistaken
  20. That is THE SEX, love the color combo!!
  21. Hey Gabe, Looks great! I really like the wires run around like that, over the motor just makes things hectic. As far as the interference goes I think you will only have that trouble with cheap or stock wires. Im running SCOTT wires that are ziptied together and I have had no issues at all.
  22. You can get the wat's from Quoc, 240zmaster here. You can PM him for pricing details.
  23. olie -- Yea, I will be doing formula this year, so perhaps I will get to meet ya, our shop is off campus so without acsses to my car last semester is was hard for me to participate but I made it out there alot to work on the baja car. l28et -- I do all my own work, I have yet to farm out anything on my z except a little machine work for my motor. Rust repair, paint, suspension, enginge everything were done in my garage on jack stands. When this happens ever penny can go into parts, and thats what I do. Cars are my passion and its really about the only thing I do lol. I work full time when im not in school and I work on other peoples cars on the side. olderthenme -- where are you going to school for ME? Im about to head back to NCSU in a couple weeks. THanks again for the compliments guys.
  24. toecutter -- After looking at those pictures closely I think you are right, my flares were fatter in the front and tapered in a little towards the rear. Looks like he might have them flip flopped, but its kinda hard to say from those pictures. gav240z -- If your car is as low as mine and you are running wide tires I reccomend you cut them a little farther up like johnc, perhaps .5" to 1" farther in the rear. I may be cutting up a little farther in the future for safe measures. And Yes I am still doing the kits: They are 55 dollars plus 5 bucks shipping. It includes: 24+1 SS 1/4" allen button head bolts 24+1 SS 1/4" AN style washers (smaller diameter) 12+1 Nutserts for the rear 12+1 SS nuts/lock washer/washers for the front 4 Strips of welting - this is nice quality stuff, i loved using it on my car, very flexible and easy to work with. Pm me if you are interested. Thanks!
