  1. I'm sorry I'm not thinkin straight i'm just scrappin here, mod delete this thread please
  2. Hey guys, Well I've done what it seems all I can think of inside megatune to get this silly middle light on my box to come on and it isn't. I turn the distributor back ~50 degrees and when I'm turning I get to a point where the pump pump will prime and before, that is usually when the light comes on but nothing. What do you guys think?
  3. Yeah I would definitly make sure that gauge is accurate, try it on a friends car or something and see what you can come up with.
  4. You're probably right buy honestly, think about it, what is the reason for lining up the two dots vs dropping the pump and adjusting it not regarding the dots but still getting the alignment right? I've always been in the dark about the whole lining up of the two marks thing, could you fill me in?
  5. It must not be too crucial considering the wiring diagram for megasquirt doesn't use it so I'll just leave it for now
  6. I really don't think it matters if your two marks on the shaft and oil pump line up does it?as long as the shaft orientation is right you're good right?
  7. Hmmm.....anyone else have any other input on the ground? I would be interested to see what people with S30's do with it...
  8. I do believe the shaft is off because here is the photo from the field service manual: If I drop the pump and turn it counter-clockwise (as you're looking at the bottom of the shaft), it should put me where I want, correct? And as far as lining up with the red line on our distributor, is that when the body is turned fully counterclockwise? I would think that is the only way it would align...
  9. Hey guys, It seems like we've been having a lot of trouble with timing and not getting the advance we want yada yada yada but in this thread, I am going to try and make an attempt to confirm and re-confirm (if that is a word) that my timing is right. First things first, let start with some hard evidence. These photos are taken with the engine at TDC. First off, let start with the pulley. It is a performance products pulley for I assume a 240z. I assume this because of the multiple tick marks on the pulley, but I only use the bottom-most one (shown in the picture) due to the fact that there are timing marks on the front cover as shown. Oh and the wire is at 5 BTDC for reference for megasquirt cranking calibration. The next picture is of the distributor shaft. I have aligned this in the position that is commonly shown in the field service manuals and online. Just trying to confirm everything is right. If may be too far clockwise Here is the cam front lobe at 2 o clock (if you're looking from the front of the engine 10 o clock Here is the distributor housing (or whatever its called that my finger is on) turned all the way counterclockwise All the way clockwise Here is a photo of the distributor and its wiring. This is the proper position of the distributor correct? I'm using the CAS black box thing (ha) as a reference Then this has always been a gray area, is this some sort of ground? Not sure if it is supposed to be hookup up to something or what... If something doesn't seem right to you guys point it out if you would, I just want to confirm that we have everything in right. As far as the red line on the distributor, it was there when we received it but we were never sure if it was accurate so who knows. I'm sure you guys do, so just let me know, thank you!!!!

  11. Additionally is it possible for the 83 turbo distributor to give such a high trigger angle?
  12. Quick question, trying to dial in my timing on megasquirt and I'm getting a High advance of 89 so I'm wondering if this is too high for the trigger angle thanks!
  13. Right but I can't seem to squeeze my head between the fender and the intercooler pipes so the angle I'm looking at the timing tab and the marks on the pulley are not as accurate as if I am looking at it straight on, you get what I'm saying?
  14. Hello, Does anyone else find it extremely difficult to use the timing marks to time your motor/sync your megasquirt? I have a front mount intercooler and it is damn near impossible. Very hard to see where the timing marks on the pulley are in relation to the timing marks on the block
  15. Yeah as far as the transmission, we talked to Oliver at Z specialties I believe and he says the 4 speeds are plenty strong for our application, so we went ahead and rebuilt and and slapped on an MSA short shifter. As far as the Fidanza flywheel, apparently you can run wither a 225mm or a 240mm clutch/pressure plate on it: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=138869&highlight=flywheel+dowel So I will be going with a 240mm but which clutch? Should the ACT stage III 240mm setup be fine for street driving with occasional track appearances?
  16. Additionally, when you set your trigger angle and sync it with the distributor physically, wouldn't it thrwow everything off if you changed the trigger angle inside megatune to anything but 50 degrees for your trigger angle? There has to be another input to sync the physical timing to the timing in megatune
  17. Wait, you dont fine tune the trigger angle, right? I though you set your trigger angle to ~50 (45 degrees maximum advance plus 5 degrees of trigger). I read in your write up that you have someone crank the motor and you look for 5 degree btdc (which is what I will set my cranking angle at) and if the timing light doesnt agree you makes adjustments in megatune somewhere, does this sound right? Where within megatune do you make the fine adjustments?
  18. I have the tranny, need the bell housing!!!
  19. so the only difference is the number of bolts holding the pressure plate on? What measurement is 225 and 240 as in what is that measuring? Maybe I do have a 240mm do they make a 225mm fidanza for these cars?
  20. Hey guys, So I've pretty much confirmed that my head gasket is bad but tell me what you think. Sign number one is that there is oil on the side of the block on both sides, nothing extreme but its there. I questioned whether it was from the valve cover gasket but I looked on the underside up under the exhaust manifold and it was there too!! Additionally, while changing my oil, I watched it drip and it looks as though the oil has acquired a nice fluorescent green color aka the color of coolant. My question is should I bother jamming the timing chain with the piece of wood or should I just take the front cover off and replace that gasket to be safe? I plan on taking the head down to the machine shop and make sure its true. Its kind of a bummer because we just rebuilt this motor a couple months ago and I believe it could possibly have been caused by timing issues within megasquirt. All cylinders are putting out ~135 psi, which I'm surprised for a bad head gasket. Oh and the car seems to be overheating lately too....so all signs point to head gasket if you ask me. Let me know your opinion, thanks! (L28ET stock from oil pan to valve cover)
  21. I have the Fidanza flywheel, I believe its a 225 mm. Do these flywheels come in different sizes? As far as ordering the clutch, do I order it for the 240z or for the L28ET/83 280zx??
  22. L28ET with 73 4 speed transmission, needs to be able to hold ~at least 300 hp, have a brand new spec but does NOT hold. What do you guys recommend? I hear good things about clutch masters, ACT, centerforce. Just let me know, will be a street driven car/occasional track car. Thanks!
  23. Hmmm....well would you guys recommend cleaning out all the grease I just injected into the steering gear housing?.......anyone?....
  24. Hey guys, Having some serious difficulty finding another left hand thread M14 1.5 pitch nut for the lock nut for the tie rod end on the driver side. If somebody has one or knows where I could get one, that would be GREATLY appreciated, thank you!!
