  1. Eeehm i guess it wieghs as much a 350z with all that bondo now :S Though i like the recaro's in there
  2. 1 minute 5 minutes ten years ... it all depends .. post a pic
  3. I seam welded my car 'doubled the front section where the frame rails become the front legs. Welding plates from the front legs to the front strut towers. And a full cage..
  4. The question would be .... WHY.. there is no need for it at all .. an r200 will stand about any abuse .. from road racing to wheel stands .. just make sure to cool it when you really stretch it to the limits (i.e. safari rally’s or road racing)
  5. Hard to say .. apart from the fact you should keep this stock in my opinion. Id say if you love driving it there is way without doing to much to the appearance but improving handling; So you preserve the stock looks and the effort in keeping her where she is today. -urethane bushings -Tockiko illumina's -Springs -Steel brake lines -Performance brake oil -Porterfiled r4s pads and new disks -Bigger sway bars Then it is up to you if you go with bigger wheels. A lower tire will give more road feel. I would leave the engine as it is.
  6. why would you want aftermarket .. But YES .. LOADS
  7. I think that is only the case when you swap from early bumpers to the later ones. This is just a replacement of a same style bumper
  8. I think that is only the case when you swap from early bumpers to the later ones. This is just a replacement of a same style bumper
  9. apparantly the rear a arms widen the track and correct for camber on an extremly lowered car. Talk to mcadam he did it aswel on his
  10. here is a link to one http://cgi.ebay.com/ALICE-IN-WONDERLAND-2-DISC-DVD-BRAND-NEW_W0QQitemZ350193186112QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_DVD_HD_DVD_Blu_ray?hash=item518923f540&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50
  11. really ? i heard they where desinged by a German..... and they have a Mercedes engine!!! and it makes a whopping 170 hp stock!!!
  12. Sorry, well they are .. but you will need to remove the plastic side molds on a 82. and that will reval skuff marks from thos parts rubbing over the years. Plus you would need two earlier bumpers to get the later car to match up front and rear. So yeah you can mix and match diffrent bumbers
  13. There are basically 2 usdm styles, the 79 through 81 chrome bumbers. And the 82 en 83 style bumbers. they are full plastic covered. the early later
  14. Id like to debate that .. see post above .. a good port job and a bump in the compression makes it a whole new beast! But i take you never driven a real built NA...
  15. Yes he has .. on his garage floor waiting for a new project .. In his car he has a BONE stock l28et 150k bottom end.. I know since i have helped cleaning out the coolant two weekends ago after he blew his headgasket on the dybo with Bernard... So yes you are right that he has a 3.0. I know that after replacing the gaskets we (Tony and I) dropped by friday after the MSA BBQ he went back to the dony cranking over 450 rwhp to the wheels!! he was over 300 at 12psi So it is all in the 'head' after all
  16. well you need MASSIVE wheels ... or a -45 offset ... as i fit 10J 275 under my stockers. i did not even roll the fenders in the rear .. it has 4" bottom clearance ..
  17. First i dont want to go in on the whole murder deal, since i dont know any background. I have read his post, and on that front he seemed to know his stuff. Second .. Jeffp Recently Pulled 465RWHP at 20 somewhat PSI on a STOCK bottom end ... so is it possible yeah!! .. for a $1000 ?? his porting job would cost more ..
  18. A Big TB does nothing on a stock car! Cold air doesnt do anything (id made a 2 hp on my turbo car .. but the stock filter was clogged), MSD does nothing for a stock car, An electric fan doesn’t do anything .. it might rev more freely in neutral .. But for instant Bernard makes over 400 HP with the stock fan. And i see no reason to believe he would make much more with an electric fan. Stripping the interior does work .. but hey that is fairly radical for a street car. I dont want to be rude to all the people that say their TB and cold air made a diffrence .. it does not .. and if it does anything it is so marginal it is not worth it. I agree it makes the car SOUND faster. Judging from the comments made by you I suspect you do not have a lot of wrench time on cars in general, so this might be out of your league. Apart from John’s list id say on an NA Get a later 82/83 f54 flat top block from a junkyard, ($250) Bump the compression by bolting on your n42 head that you have now, maybe if you feel you are inclined enough clean up the ports a bit. Get a head gasket and manifold gasket ($100) Get a MSA Header. Get a mild street cam ($500 for the full set) Get your stock EFI tuned and be happy with the fact you do not use full potential. Optional: Get MsS, as Braap said stock EFI is a fairly simple system that allows for some play.. but would net get the full potential from the cam at hand, so Megesquirt is the way to go IF you understand the basics of what it does, and the dynamics in a combustion engine.
  19. Eeehm the s130 was sold in bigger numbers then the Z, I think it was the best sold sports car in the world for a while. The aftermarket support in suspension is a bit harder.. but you can easely use s13 stuff or z31 for that matter
  20. id say look on craiglist or ebay .. buy a ZX in SoCAl for anywhere between $1000 $2000 in the same .. or better shape .. I bought two there that where better and i seem em pop up allot for less aswel. Then use the other 1k to get it transported to your house or fly down and drive back While you there you can stop at MSA for some stuff Or if you dont want to drive as far .. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-280zx-1979-Datsun-280zx-FL-car_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a317Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a0Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem3a4e06c206QQitemZ250417168902QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks It looks like a fairer car than the one you linked to us. or this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1979-Datsun-280ZX-All-Numbers-Matching_W0QQitemZ160333294293QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item25549bead5&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A317|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318 What we are saying .. dont buy the car you linked .. it is not worth much more than a 1000
  21. Well 5th note that it is an driving school, not really a as sharp measured event as a real Solo2. I think John turned a few fast laps in his 350z aswel, they where not on the time list of the day. Anyway i was fast enough, and had a blast. I had two solo2 prepped cars behind me.. What it shows?: Power can work against you The more suspension setting available, the more 'wrong' settings you have. The 13's where very light, as they where a steel wheel .. The 15x8 SG motoring wheels are 16lbs.. so not light by long shot.. The wheels really surprised me.. the way it woke up the car, and the way it glued to the ground !!.. there is something to say for the 13" that i would never have discovered if I hadn’t tried. The ZX is a stock 238K mile 78, but with an gutted interior, KYB shocks, cut 2+2 springs, and new ball joits and rods.
  22. I have no clue i think it where hosiers of some kind. I borrowed them off Ian Stewart, like i said the car pulled from the line. Due the fact of the small tires my diff 'ratio' was somewhere around 4.8, it slammed the car to the ground giving a good low point of weight. The only problem I would see is your front valance hitting the ground under cornering or braking Tony might know the tire brand though.
