frank280zx replied to proxlamus©'s topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis

well there are moveable wings for race cars aswel! It really does wonders.. Maybe we should make in car oprational grill shutter for the z -
Eehm im under or arround 10 k and i make 533 RWHP ....and there is nothing wrong with my handling either He will do most work himself that saves allot. the body he has is 95% solid as i have personally loaded it in SoCal it actually is the 260 that used to be Hectors cars ( the guy behind the 240 artwork of the BRE car) See cars move arround the globe And his budget is 28K USD 20K Euro. On the other hand parts are more expensive over here, but i guess for a streetable weekend warrior that should cover it!

Roadcourse Tires
frank280zx replied to wondersparrow's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
THAT is a classic phrase LOL On topic i can say i like Yokohama Advans A048 over R888's from experiance, the Advans are way more constant grip whise where i feel the r888's act allot diffrent when wearing... that is using the GG compound. If i had to rate the two id say Yokohama Advan 9 and R888's 7 Given it can have allot to do with how the suspension is set up and how much the car weighs etc. Anyhow id go for full slicks if you can, personally i have michelins.. but i can get them cheap i dont have much to compare it with. -
BTW rotarys fit the bay very nice and have also been done, you have tons of room to spare.. i just never really got their concept .. i love the sound though I have tried the 'diffrent' approach with m60b40, but i found out there is reason why some swaps seem poular. An SR or 2JZ or V8 for that matter slip in so easy compared to a doubble overhead cam V8 in an s30 you just run out of room.. Not in the lenght but in the width. So what is your stance on all the skandinavic m50b25 turbo BMW engines ? seems a very willing powerplant not ?

Well Kees Seing your list and judging from availability of parts id say SR20 Talk to Dic k (haha if i write his name attached i get **** LOL) in Alphen aan de Rijn he builts nothing but SR's and Evo engines for racing Since you will be using it in a 240 you can have the weight advantage (another thing that is important next to distribution), it all sits behind the front crossmember making it act allmost like a mid engined car. With enough FG art you could build a ~1000kg track rocket. I have to say that my car behaved completly diffrent when i was done with the V8 swap. due to the further back position alone (spring rates where of caster camber etc etc) I bet that the weight reduction if you go the SR route, will be another thing that will ad some complexity in getting the car to handle right ( as all the known z formulas are out of the window then) Anyhow IF that short list where my list SR20 .... haha or something Beamer

No there are no predrilled holes for the hood pins in them That is the scare part when i drilled mine... a def measure twice kind of deal haha. I have the full innerframe, like stated it can work as a complete stock hood.. just allot lighter

Newbie trying to plan first build
frank280zx replied to SonewSodumb's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Last time i checked it wasnt money coming out of there haha BTW what is a NAPS S130 as that is new one NAPS stands for Nissan Anti Pollution System and the engines called NAPS are the 'Z series' All Z20, Z22 and Z24 engines were known as NAPS-Z engines, NAPSZ motors had dual sparkplugs per cylinder except the pre-82 versions and later versions of the Z24 as fitted to the Pathfinder. However all NAPZ engines sold in California reportedly had dual plug heads regardless of the year. There is no NAPS Z ZX Back on Topic; I dont see where it is more work the kit is much harder, like said ( i'm talking from experiance here) Dropping in the Engine is not the hard part! And A LS/LQ engine can be sourced as cheap as a nice SBC. He is talking 383 allready, that is not your avarage junkyard engine! Even at the Pomona swap meet a complete engine like that with half decent parts will set you back between 3500 to 4 grand, or if you build it yourself about 2 grand in parts. You can source a LS/LQ engine with a T56 for the same money or less! Complete! If you can do the swap or an engine rebuilt you can build or adapt LS engine mounts. Anyhow it is just a thought and the prices dont vary that much on a complete build to justify 'money out of my ears' if that was the case i would have advised to use a Ferrari v8 And daily driven a LS/LQ with stock EFI is the better option in my book -
The finned covers are stock on euro ZX's ( s130) the turbos also have cooling, the diff mount is the same part number as the number for a US spec S130 Yasin Like Strechnuts said about 4 hours, and that is not stressing easy going! BTW strechnut great ha a 540 I 6

Beta has top Notch parts period! I have his glas fiber full hood for a s130 and it fit like stock or even better, I use hood pins as it is on a race car but it can work with the stock latch aswel!

Can i be the devils advocate? Whilst i run a 406 SBC, if more available here in Europe i would choose to go for LSx engine.. I have seen 400HP from a stock LS bottom end with just a 'fast' intake. I have seen LS and LQ engines sold for as low as $500... It is by far the best bang for the buck and it fits under your hood! I had to use a 4" cowl to get even a half decent air cleaner on the SBC using a victor JR and a Barry Grant, Given this is in a s130. In the s30 the same cleaner did not fit even with a EFI throtthle plate! If i would have lived in the US id go LS all the way!!!! Further I guess you have a ton of information right there! And yes it is the ton of little things that cost the most time and money, dropping in the engine is the easy part. Hooking everyting up, and fabbing takes time! -
I guess he has his share of Carb experiance aswel @Web Wel you did 'tune' your carbs I guess most over 30 year old cars might have some issues with wear and being slightly of tune by now, just a good overhaul and attention to detail work wonders. I think the roundtops a great carbs, but while over there id get some japanes tripples, they could be sold with a profit, And will ( when in right tune) do the same as you describe. The Trick is dont go TO big stay with 40's on a L26 unless you really want to reuse them on another engine then get 48's orso and use the smalles venturi you can find. So you will have the power increase and the classic looks of tripples. Everybody has SU's Also pay attention to details ( match your gaskets etc) when installing. Do you just want to do Carbs or would you also be prepared to swap a cam? as if you do that with tripples you wil see allot more gains! Most stock cams drop off at 5K and there ispower to be made upto 6K with cast pistons. Though depending on the general tune of you car now i would not hope for much more than 15 to 20 HP with carbs and maybe 30 HP with a cam. Id say stay away from the 4 barrel but that is just my personal preffernece, further i have heard people complaining of leaning out number 5 or 6 with those, hence i feel that has to do with the head cooling issue discussed in a diffrent topic here.

Run into a speed shop get a gnose and Kamenari cam gear cams etc etc .. oer side drafts ... while you can! cheap! It takes a day if that! There is tons of stuff fairly cheap over there and SERIOUS Cash over in the states. anyhow if you want nice carbs for a stock L26 get some 40 Mikunis or OERS

Dude i love your goals .. BUT: You dont need a mckinney motor sports mounts, a rb25 bolts into a s130 with just the motor mounts of a r31 skyline ( look on ebay australia for those) Then the stock RB gearbox even bolt into the oem mount in the back .... With the fabwork needed to make the front full adjustable, you can also buy the Techno toy tuning adjustble tension rods and make your on heim joints on your a amrs. What you really want for handling is more caster than the stock set up gives you anyway! Next point WHY in the world use the rear arms of a s30 it doenst handle any better .. the whole trailingarm bs is a myth.. the Bob sharp cars show why. if that doenst convince you! look at the BMW e30 m3. Like you state in your post; "had read a few places that the S30 rear set up was better than the trailing arm" Have you experianced it ? and are you good enough of a driver to notice it ? I think you are taking a complete wrong set of choises and you should read, and understand handling more before you start swapping. As like this you will have your ass handed to you by well sorted ZX in a blink of the eye! However if you really hate the trailing arms with a passion, go s13 or s14 if you want a real upgrade! Plus you get wider better part availability. Same goes for Brakes for the s130.. there is so much available that is fairly bolt on, and an s13 coil over kit fits with very little fab work!

Search my friend There are two types biscally the n42 and f54, some swear by the n42 some say the f54 is better. There is a whole topic dedicated to this. Anyhow can you use it? naturally i would not worry to much The diffrences between a turbo and non turbo is basically the ring height on pistons etc
-
Like Tony said .. The power in the 'lgata'is in the head ( i.e. work done to it)and compression. since your location states "Okinawa, Japan" Id go to a speciality shop over there, they do magic on headwork.

He Kees how have you been! Have not seen you in a while! Heads up with beamer engines the front sump ones tend to get hard, i had a m60 b40 in mine (s130) and there was no easy way arround the front sump since it has scavanger pumps in the sump. Big plus with a s30 is that the crossmember sits further foreward so a mid sump of bmw engine might work. But why not a AMG or audi S v8 ? Since i run a 406 v8 in my zxr (that you will see on the tracks more next year) and i have to stick to l28 in my YTTC build.. ill plant a seed of something that has haunted me for a while.. why not a diesel twin turbo TONS of torque and good power! I have driven a Diesel track car a year back .. and since than it has been hauting me However the cheapest thing is an RB.. The sexy thing to do is Merc or Audi or Beamer i guess

l28et vs sr swap battle ! but this ones hard
frank280zx replied to dod6av6en6's topic in Nissan 4 Cyl Forum
All L's i blew up where MY fault.. I modified everything EXCEPT !!! the oil pan making it starve in coners throwing rod bearings. -
Yeah i saw he had it registered it talked to his friend who bought some parts of me. I know we are easier to get it done than i.e.Germany and any car before 86 has a possibility to swap out to a bigger engine like a v8, anything after that gets harder. And yes they look if you have upgraded your brakes/ handling etc in a set of test on test benches and a road course. I guess 90% of californain cars will fail any european test due to cracks in dust boost, play in ball joints etc etc. However we dont have t deal with as strick smog laws. So i geuss every country has its benifits.

Very dutch CAR it is fairly close to me
