  1. I got a radiator that has end tanks and has the inlet and outlets on opposite sides. Now I was going to cut off the outlet and move it over so that it's the same as an RB type radiator. Now my question is if both the inlet and outlet are on the same end tank, would coolant simply bypass the radiator cooling fins for the most part and go through just the end tank, thus making the radiator highly inefficient? Or would thermal dynamics cause something different to happen. I have an electric fan and an effective shroud. Thanks in advance.
  2. Wooohoooo! Always a good feeling to finally get it started and hear that wonderful sound!
  3. Well its been a while since Ive updated things. I just got a radiator kit from Summit Racing today and it looks like its up to the job of keeping my RB cool. It was a good buy too got a Radiator, Fan, Shroud, Radiator Cap, Thermostat and relay and all the necessary mounting brackets for only $450 bucks. I just have to modify the inlet so that it matches up to the RB set up. A good friend of mine has a Tig welder and extensive knowledge of welding so it shouldn't be a problem.
  4. I'm not sure how many people on here use this boost controller but I thought I'd post my results I got after trial and error testing. I'm running an RB25 with the stock turbo with stock injectors and computer with the usual supporting mods. NOTE: all results are in PSI mode, make sure your unit is also in PSI mode if you decide to try my settings. Boost: 35% Gain: 18% Start Boost: 8psi Warning: 11psi I'm still working on it but this seems to be pretty close to optimum results you can get with a stock turbo and what not. I haven't gotten a boost spike yet so I'm going to increase the start boost until I hit a spike then back it off.
  5. I would suggest that you drive whatever else car you have, get a shop manual for your GTR and work on it. You could even take it into a professional for a few things if you choose. Fixing your throw out bearing (Im assuming) and upgrading your turbos would not constitute you having to completely disembowel your car. I see your logic behind the Z31 build but your probably going to end up neck deep in purchases and regret it. "If only I didn't spend the money on that Z31 I could have gotten ________ for my GTR...."
  6. Ahh hell, now I feel even more buyers remorse for going with the RB25 instead of the RB26:rolleyesg Why isnt this a more common thing? I did not buy the RB26 because I couldnt afford an RB26 with RB25 trans at the time. Personally Id like a 6 speed more then a 5 speed...are the results sub par (assuming the RB26 trans is in good condition) or something?
  7. I run full three inch off the downpipe and follow the positioning of the stock exhaust route and it fits great. Don't have any clearance issues.
  8. Alrite guys, I'm at work on my break where I tend to come up with crazy ideas. I was just curious if it is a viable option to convert an RB26 trans to RWD? I have never heard of this done before. Any attempts or succesful builds?
  9. Noticed your from Socal so you probally already know this... When it first rains down here, there is a build up of oil on the roads since it doesnt rain often it is not washed away frequently. So what happens is the first rains mix with the excessive oil build up on the roads become extremely slick. When it first rains you always hear of a million wrecks because of this. Make sure to take this into account and drive slower, try to avoid freeways and other drives as much as possible.
  10. Wow sounds like a hell of a 25 setup you have. I like the idea of being able to instantly spool up the turbo. Nitrous is defiantly going to be one of my upgrades now. I googled around and didnt find much info on Nitrous injected RB25s so I was curious.
  11. Thanks for the insight, I will be tackling it soon and will defiantly be posting my results. I appreciate the comment on my build:mrgreen: its been a long and bumpy road but it has defiantly been worth the effort.
  12. I have a strong sense that this thread was going nowhere from the start.
  13. I have a 1975 Datsun 280z with an RB25 engine swap. I have been having trouble with the headlights and turn signals. Neither of them work, when I turn the switch for the headlights all the running lights and the tail lights work but not the headlights. I have tried taking them off and testing them off a battery and they work. When I flip the lever for the turn signals I get nothing, no clicking or anything. The turn signals don't work on the front & back. Thanks in advance for the guidance.
  14. You do realize that those new N1 engines you see for sale around don't come manifolds, turbos, wiring harness, ECU, injectors and everything else that's not internal practically.
  15. Ahh man too bad it's not in the California area or I'd defenatly show. By the way your projects are killer, very impressive builds you have.
  16. I tried to run one that came out of a datsun 210, fits perfect and everything but it isn't sufficient in capacity. I'm buying a kit from summit racing with a fan/shroud with correct demensions but i need to cut off the outlet and move it. It only cost about 350 bucks. Edit: sorry didn't notice you have a Z32, I'm not sure if my information is relevant.

    RB25DETT

Haha hes from California. NO WAY it is gonna smog unless you do something scheisty, thats why hes selling it Nice deal though, look at that teeny tiny radiator haha. The car itself is kinda ugly in my opinion.
  18. To be honest the few people that I have talked to that have the RB20 and RB20 transmission have had problems with them going out. Even with the RB20 doing street driving like you said. It is because they are getting older and just arnt as beefy as the RB25/26 transmissions. The RB26 is considerably more powerful then the RB20 so you may want to reconsider. Using an RB25 trans from the beginning would probaly save you some money and headaches in the long run. Just my 2 cents.
  19. I had the same problem with the same hose. Best thing to do is just go to the autoparts store, cut a new one and replace it. Then hop in and drive:mrgreen:
  20. Well I got her all legal and took her on my first freeway/long distance ride. However I must part with my radiator and fan setup, it failed miserably. Ive got a radiator/fan/shroud kit from Summit Racing in my sights and will have that within a couple of weeks, maybe sooner. Besides the cooling problem she runs great on the highway:mrgreen:
  21. Nice build man. Just curious, what motivated you to do all this work as opposed to putting a twin turbo setup on the VQ or something like that?
  22. Oh yeah hey guys what do you think of this Radiator and fan set up from Summit? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-CSUM3804/ The dimensions are spot on and a good friend of mine is good with a Tig welder. So hes going to chop off the outlet, patch it, and move it over so that its under the inlet. From the looks of it Id say it should be enough to do the job.
  23. Sweet finally got that Z31 on the road eh? Guess that means its time for the RB30:mrgreen:
  24. How'd you test it? Make sure you have the teeth on the speedo sensor lined up with the ones inside the transmission, if you installed it and tested it that way. What seems to be damaged? Mine looked beat to hell but it works well.
