HELP!!, Can't Find Brake Line
DatsunBoy77 replied to Phantom's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I know many people like that at my work and other stores that basically if it isnt in the computer, then we don't get it. After 2 years at Advance i can pretty much remember everything we carry in stock. There is a lot that people do have to get at dealerships for their cheaper cars (Hyudai, Kia, Daewoo) as the aftermarket parts havent really cared about them much yet. But for stuff like brake lines, i could tell you off the top of my head about every size and thread, and almost every price. I think it is more of the difference of people who take pride in their job, and those that just want to get paid for standing there. I like the feeling of surprising the customer and knowing what they are talking about and have it there and can explain how to do it. -
HELP!!, Can't Find Brake Line
DatsunBoy77 replied to Phantom's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Advance auto definatly has em. We got them behind the counter, as well as 3/16 to M10 adapters. -
do you have a vacuum/boost gauge. If i remember correct at idle the vacuum should be near -20hg(whaterever it is called) give or take a little. I would think that would help give you some kind of idea as if you have a vacuum leak. Ryan

Anybody ever try Advanced Auto's half shaft?
DatsunBoy77 replied to Poundz9oh9's topic in Drivetrain
They are very good for the price and have a lfetime warantee, but you really want to add some extra grease to them. Thats the one thing i didnt like about em. They dont put a lot of grease in most of them. I dont see that many come back unless they race em a lot or they were defective out the box. Oh, yeah... I work at Advance. -
ok, lets not get too biased here about old people not understanding big rims. I have been to quite a few car shows lately where the old timers gave 18"+ on their hot rods now. It is not jusy a "ricer" thing anymore. On another note, i saw a VW Corrado the other night with 18s, and you literally couldnt see the tires. It was probably the worst thing i had ever seen. It looked like he was riding on the rims, might as well have been. I would hate to take a corner in that at a high speed, It probably scrapes the rims.

Final Exams, you thought YOU had it bad...

I think you missed the joke. Reread the first word. -
Well being a datsun roadster owner, I have learned some new facts. The 1962 datsun 1500 roadster was the first sports car offering of datsun. It wasnt much of a sports car until it moved up to a 1600 model in 1965. The 1967.5 2000 roadster, in mint condition can reach up to $50,000 in japan, was advailable with a 150hp engine in a 1850lb car. The Roadster ended production in 1970, with under 50,000 made worldwide, in favor of the Z car.

*Jumping for joy* SCORE!!!! My free FMIC is HERE!!! w0000t!
DatsunBoy77 replied to a topic in Turbo / Supercharger
On the stock turbo 2.25 is plenty. I would imagine 2.5 might cause a pressure drop on the stocker. Stock turbo outlet is only like 2" if i recall. -
The L20b was a 4cyl engine found in some datsun trucks in the 70's here in the states, but the L20's were an L6 motor found overseas

he cavalier was advailable with a V6 in the Z24 model in the early 90's. I still cat understand how it was a z24 with a v6. I get people in my work with em all the time. As a matter of fact i believe it was a 2.8 and it was actually advailable in Z24 and non Z24 models. Just a little off-topic information from your local parts guy.

Is it just me or is that fuel cell sitting pretty low? Have you ever had any clearence problems with it that low. Maybe, it is just the angle of the picture. But looks good. Very similar into how I am building mine.
-
Thats hilarious! a friend of mine i saw last week got them like a month ago from that store at the mall and i was in shock. But he paid $10 for 1!!!! I was thinking about getting em, but i dont wanna waste that type of money. But for that much, I wil think about it.

I have the same fenders and am going to use the vette rear end as well. I havent got the rear end yet, but i can imagine why they are there, if you see all the air ducts in the front, it does make sense why they left that part open so it doesnt cause as much drag. I am hooping the vette end cover up most though, the rest i think I will just put a grill in. Just by chance what size tire/rim combo are you useing, if you don't mind some off-topic talk? -
Yeah, I think Nissan was trying to put more money in funcion back then, than fashion that is. But if that was entirly true, i could think of some things they could of changed.

1968 or 1970 Datsun 1600 Rims
DatsunBoy77 replied to WickedWild's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Yes they do. Be careful of tire size though. Stock sized tire will clear, but anything larger, forget about it. -
I was on the SR20DEFOURM for a few years and also on the mailing list. The main guys at the sr20 forum are great, but you do have to learn to deal with the couple of new guys that are just like the couple of new guys we get here. They are usually the youngens who "have been doing this all their life" that always cause the trouble, a little bit more over there as there are a lot more sentra's and they are a bit more appealing to the younger crowd. As a matter of fact, I believe John helped me out with a problem I had with my 91 NX while on the mailing list. Both are great resources. Also check out SE-R.NET. One of the best documented resources advailable. Enjoy the car, they are great. Ryan

Yeah, that yellow stuff tastes like crap. I pnd a good half a day cleaning up just a couple sprays of that crap. I think i am gonna get a fire blanket and an extinguisher just in case.
-
Must be a NY thing !! 4 days ago I was working on my 69 Roadster putting in the master cylinder i just got finished rebuilding. I thought, Hey why dont I try to fire over the engine right now. Mind you, I had no air cleaners on the carbs as i was planning to adjust them after i got it started. Well, it was just about to crank over, when it backfired out the front SU. Well, long story made short, I dont know if it was open empty bottle of brake fluid right next to it, but poof, up it goes. Luckily i got it out before any serious damage occured. Only some slight bubbling on the passenger side fender and the top corner of the hood, and also the wiring to the alternator. So now I will be putting in my GM 1 wire seeing how my old atle wont work withought wiring.

Well you just never really experience childhood unless you have had your head caught between something at least twice. That might explain why i like to get into projects that are tough to get out of. Now that i think of it, my life is one big chair stuck around my head.
-
Now who hasn't done that at least twice in their life?

Supercharged maximas are very fun. Problem is they are very torquey (cool word, right?). They have may traction problems. FWD is not the best set up for the supercharged 3.0, definatly would be much better in RWD format. But the maximas are great cars as far as 92+ SE models with 5/6 speeds. I have been looking to get another maxima for sometime now, but instead got a roadster. I kinda wished i waited a little longer and got a max, but i never can fine a 92+ se WITH a 5 speed anywhere in my price range.

I found http://www.311s.com and seems to be a pretty decent forum. I am just gonna get everything up to snuff this year soi can drive a little, but come next year when My Z is near finished (never really be finished) it will be a hybrid roadster, so no worrys over those $250 balljoints. I am thinking of finding a wrecked 240sx and swapping in drivetrain and suspension. i saw someone that made the rear IRS fit on the frame. Front rack of the Z looks like it may work with a little shortening. As a matter of fact i have a whole RX7 front and rear suspension sitting next to my Z from a friends RX7, might just have to make some measurements. Firt Hybridization will probably be the brakes. The car was garaged since 89. I am the third owner with 88K on the clock, and those years in the garage probably have been tough on the brakes, and with no replacements advailable and only $120 per side rebuild kits, those will be the first thing changed. The motor runs good though, just needs a lttle tune up. Hey i wonder if i could add the roadster as another entry to jackstand racing? Are non-Z cars allowed?

Well, I got the urge to spice up my same old routine of working on one datsun, so i bought another. So now i went out and bought myself a 1969 Datsun 1600 Roadster. Couldn't pass up the deal. Don't worry, my money pit, a.k.a. 1977 280Z is still getting its full love. It will eventully get up on the rotisserie once i get the darn font bracket to fit right. I just needed something i could cruise around in during the summer while working on my other datsun. So, I have been searching on the internet for like 3 days, and i have yet to find a forum to the car. Does anyone know of any that can be matched near the quality of this site, or even maybe something close to Zcar.com? I have found a few parts suppliers, but not forums to just that car. Thanks, Ryan
