  1. OK, I searched and searched and couldn't find what I was looking for.... My next question is this......why do people choose the T5 slave over the T56 slave???? I know that most people with the T56 run the T5 unit, but why? Is there that big of a difference between the two?
  2. I might have to take ya up on that one!! On a side note, do you know anybody that rents out cherry pickers around here? Ok, I went to Jegs to oder some of my parts and saw that they had a Wilwood clutch master cylinder (7/8), that looked to be the same thing as the Tilton unit just a little cheaper from what I found. Is there any difference between the two?
  3. Now, how much more clearancing do you think I'll need? I know I did a lot of beating to get the 700r4 in there (it's a 240 by the way), and thought the 700r4 was a pig compared to the other GM tranny's. I haven't had the opportunity to do a side by side comparison yet.
  4. Ok guys, I'm swapping my 700R4 for the T56. I've got an 86-up SBC, and the 93-97 T56. I've searched the forums thoroughly and I just want to run down my list of teh things that I came up with that I'll need to complete the swap, so I just wanted to the more experienced guys to double check what I've got. Like I said, I HAVE - 86-up SBC - 93-97 T56 - 93-97 T56/Lt1 Bellhousing Parts Needed - 93-97 350 V8 Camaro Flywheel (153 tooth), Clutch disc, pressure plate and throwout bearing - 93-97 350 V8 Camaro pilot bearing - Reverse light switch, reverse lockout switch and VSS switches (on the tranny) - Autometer Electronic Speedo (to get rid of the cable) - Tilton 7/8 MC - Stock T5 slave - JTR #7 Starter (if I remember right) for the 153 tooth flywheel. (running 168 tooth flexplate now) - driveshaft (assuming that the 700R4 is longer than the T56 - I haven't measured, and couldn't find it on the search) Now these items would just be associated with and good to have new, but not necessary - 93-97 Camaro 350 V8, New flywheel to engine and pressure plate to flywheel bolts - 93-97 Camaro 6 speed trans mount And I was planning to run the JTR tranny crossmember that I already have for simplicity reasons and lack of the means to fabricate something. And the Tilton M/C will bolt right to the stock clutch pedal - correct? Have I got everything covered guys? Or am I missing something?
  5. I got a 700R4 I'm looking to offload. Might need a little internal work, but apparently it was "race prepped" and "ready to handle 500hp" per Gary Savage (Savage42). He's who I got it from. 1st and 2nd gear run great, but somethings wrong with 3rd, it slips pretty bad. Either way, I'd let it go cheap. Well, that's if nothing pans out over there at Zcar.com.
  6. Yeah superbusy!!!! He's been trying to get things settled down at work enough to where he can get back to the Z world. I just figure .... good things come to those who wait, ya know? T56, scheduled delivery, 11 May 06!!! Woot Woot..... Hopefully, it'll go as smooth as I'd like on the tranny swap.
  7. Well get this......... The "race prepped" tranny that was included on this deal just went south as well (I put 1,800 miles on it). Left me stranded about an hour away from home after the Branson Z fest. Luckily, Vince (Vintage tech Z) was gracious enough to bail me out and let me leave the car at his place. Also, got a beer for me and the wife as well while we waited for my ride to come pick us up!! Thanks again Vince!!! Either way, got the T56 en'route. I'm hoping to have it here sometime next week and hopefully I'll have all the parts and time to install it within a couple months.
  8. hmmmm, that's what I was thinking. I was just wondering how much of the original stuff I could really use with it.
  9. Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a T56. The front runners are..... A 2000 SS T56 with 55,000 miles and 93-97 bellhousing to put it behind my SBC (86-up) for about 1500 to my door. The other is a 93-97 T56 with unknown miles that includes, the flywheel, bellhousing, shifter, pedals, master and slave, used clutch hardware for about 2,000 to the door.. Which do you think will be the better deal????
  10. I hate you!!! Very nice looking car though!
  11. Ok, reset everything, and now I'm getting a little "poof" of smoke out of the carb. Not during cranking but right after I let off of it. ??????????
  12. Ok, I changed all my ignition stuff over to a complete MSD setup. Well, I stuck the new dizzy about 10 times trying to get the sucker fired up and I'm pretty sure that I was at TDC, with all the wires routed correctly, I'm getting spark and fuel, so I'm positive it has to do with the timing. Now, while doing some research I came across this ....... "On engines after 1986, the side timing marks will no longer match up, as the new marks were moved to behind the water pump in the 12:00 position. This was done because these engines had so many brackets on them, the side scale just wasn't visible. So, new marks at noon, timing light down from the top, behind the water pump." Is there any truth to that statement???? The casting number is 14093638... so it's an 86-88 block (from what I've found) Opinions please.................................
  13. DIBS!!!!!!!!!!!! On the F40 Wing.........How much??? and where to paypal the $$$$$$
  14. ummmmmmm, I knew that.......... heh Hopefully will get her up and running here in a little bit!! Updates soon!
  15. Ok, looking at the distributer paperwork (MSD stuff came today), I see the "out of the box" advance curves. Now, the ready made curves in the paperwork ( page 3 of this http://www.msdignition.com/pdf/8360_frm%2023793.pdf ) shows that the top total advance that I can limit it at is at 28*. How do I get to the 2900rpm total advance of 36*? Also on that page, on the example of "E" or "F", which one do you think the best bet would be?
  16. I'm POSITIVE it's nothing else other than a drivetrain issue! Now the torque converter, that's a different story ... I always thought that may be the culprit or a contributing factor. It really wouldn't surprise me if it was bad too or the tranny wiring messed up. The motor it was attached to was an anchor that I paid WAY to much for (thanks again Mr Savage). So needless to say.......it wouldn't be surprising if it's crap. Now, i never messed with the internal lockup stuff in the tranny. I pretty much just plugged it up and ran with it. I've got my eye out for a WC T5, or T56, to completely eliminate the auto option (never wanted it to begin with, but it came as a package), but I'm always keeping my eye out for a decently priced TC too so I can attack that next.
  17. Thanks Grumpy. I don't know why I come to you guys first for this stuff when tech lines exist, just a natural reaction I guess. Oh, by the way. They both will work fine, the only difference they said was that the SS coil has more current. I turned around and ordered the SS one anyway, so I'll just send the Blaster 2 back when it gets here, or just keep it as a spare. Wish me luck!!
  18. Ok, ordered the standard Blaster 2 coil as opposed to the SS coil recommended in the Dizzy paperwork by mistake. Will that be a problem or should I order the SS coil and send back the Blaster 2???
  19. Ok, MSD stuff (Dizzy, Coil and 6A) is ordered and should be in the car by Thursday afternoon!! Will post more updates then!! Also, was getting ready to order the holley secondary quick change kit as well. On a side note, I obtained a Holley 770 Street Avenger body, so if the ignition and spring kit don't help, that's where I'm going next. Get a good rebuild kit and have at that carb, which, by the way I ordered one of those Holley rebuild books ( http://www.motorhaven.com/catalog/product_590_Holley_Rebuilding_and_Modifying.html )................ and yeah and I'm still intimidated.
  20. I will MOST DEFINATELY get on the rest of those checks as soon as I get back from the field. I'll be gone the whole week playing in the woods with the new soldiers. I've been wanting to go MSD for a while now, and will prolly get it mid march. Not in time for my dyno day, but ya know money talks. I'll go through the carb as well. I think I'll just have it rebuilt with the upgraded jets, power valve and accellerator pump. And call it good, I'm not familiar with carb internals and frankly they scare me. Is there anybody here or on the internet that you guys could recommend I send it to??? Does Corzettes suggestions about the jets seem about right?
