  1. ok guys, here's the complete cam specs: The duration at lash point in degrees (intake/exhaust) is 275/280; duration at .050" tappet lift (intake/exhaust) is 208/221; and maximum lift with 1.5:1 rocker ratio (intake/exhaust) is 474/501. Valve lash is zero/zero and lobe centerline is 112 degrees The suggested timing is 10 degrees initial @ 800 rpm (where it is now and set with the vacuum advance disconnected) Suggested Total timing of 32 degrees @ 4,000 rpm (no idea what I'm getting exactly) So where do I go from here timing wise? Do I stay with the suggested or take it up to 20 like mentioned before? Anybody want to go in depth as to how exactly to limit the total advance at the vacuum advance assy.? Would something like this work for the total timing adjustment. http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=3315&prmenbr=361
  2. Dude...... enjoy the time off relaxing. The car will always be there, and may cause more headache than you want to deal with when your supposed to be "chillin". But yeah, 120-130 hrs seems reasonable
  3. HA!!! Exactly!!! Thanks guys, you've givin me a lot to think about and check................ When I can get some time....
  4. Timing is good, but the torque converter may be another story, it's supposed to be a stock corvette 2500 s/s. Would that really restrict the motor that much?
  5. Yeah, I'm sure it's going through all the gears. 1st is often shortlived at light throttle but it stays there when I step on it and it's shifting good through all the gears especially when I stand on it. Now just light throttle, that's a different story, the shifts are, in my opinion are coming way to soon and I tap into 4th at low speeds which bogs it down just a little. But hey that's at light throttle whose trying to go fast at light throttle..
  6. Engine ZZ4 block bored .030 Complete roller cam setup (474/510 - I believe w/o checking my build sheet) 1.5 ratio aluminum roller rockers Vortec Iron heads Airgap intake 600cfm Edelbrock carb Hei with 50,000 volt upgrades 2 1/2 dual exhaust Rated at about 385 hp with matching torque(ish) 700R4 3.54 R200 My question is this, can I be losing a great deal of horsepower through the transmission? I mean the motor seems to be running great, maybe a little rich sometimes but other wise fantastic. I have great throttle response and the car is quick. My problem is off the line, it seems to be a dog, compared to my higher rpm ranges. Can the trans really be stealing this much horsepower? I mean, with this setup I should be able to burn the 205's off the back of the car right? I barely can get a little screech from the tires off the line and then another shifting from 2nd to 3rd. What do you guys think?
  7. BLAH!!!!!!! I'm Jealous!!! My progress has been so slow, ya beat me to a couple things that I was working on with my car....... It's cool though, you did a good job!
  8. Yeah, Mike. I knew I was running rich and still needed to adjust the timing for the final time. I didn't know those factors by themselves would cause the glowing. Oh, and I did run new wires for the tach. I guess I'll do some troubleshooing later today.
  9. Well, it's been a long time coming and even through all the trials and tribulations I got the first start along with my cam break in period. I only ran into some minor problems with the cooling. The single speed taurus fan I got was not enough, so I added a pusher to the front. Everything seems good to go now. I fried about 4 distributers before I got it to fire. Somewhere the tach was shorting them out, so now I need to get the tach checked out to make sure it's ok, then hopefully I'll get it rewired in and operable. Does anybody know how to test them (tach) out without frying anything??? It's an auto-meter phantom guage. Also, is it normal for the headers to be glowing red after running about 15-20 minutes?? Only a couple things left to go. I still have to .......... 1) Wrap up the engine bay wiring. 2) Final adjustment on the timing and carb 3) Get the headers jet-hot coated, and get it to the exhaust shop. 4) Finish the fabrication on the shift linkage 5) Mount my Prelude seats 6) put the carpet back in 7) install the hood latch 8) Drive Seems like a short list compared to what I started with. Hopefully, I can get some good quality time in over the next few days and drive this beast. The motor sounded GREEEEEEEEEEEAT!!!!!! I'm getting really excited about driving this thingy
  10. Just wondering if anybody ran into any fitment issues with the PDK strut brace. I bolted the strut bar and down bars into place and went to put the firewall bars on and they seemed a littl2 too long. I couldn't even get them into place for a trial fit. They were probably about 3/4" tool long, did I do something wrong.
  11. hooah! or is it oorah for you guys?
  12. Heeeeeeeeeeey, I was in Schweinfurt!! Not quite that long ago but I was there. Gotta love Conn or Ledward Barracks!!!! 630th MP Co at the time. 96-99
  13. Sorry for being late on this thread guys but please bear with me. I'm currently going into my third week of Drill Sergeant school here at wonderful and EXTREMELY (blah) HUMID Fort Jackson, SC. I, for the next two years at a minimum will assist the sons and daughters of the american people in their effort to become american soldiers. The type of young warriors we are seeing entering the military today astounds me. When I joined, I'll have to be honest, I did not join for the benefit of our wonderful nation. I was personally motivated, but regardless of my reasons, I have stuck with this decision for the past 9 and a half years. What I'm going through right now is nothing new to a lot of people. It is however, completely unfathomable to most. I'm not a stressful person but for the past 2 weeks I have been kept awake at night with burning stomach aches, and cold sweats. Am I sick? No, I'm just doing one of the most stressful things that I have ever even attempted. Alot is expected of me and I will rise to the challenge. But these young warriors are patriots!! It takes a special kind of person to join the military when your nation is at war. I will take these young civilians and turn them into soldiers. I will teach and mentor these young souls until they are able to stand on their own two feet!! Alot of these kids will be sent off to fight in our present theaters of operation, and they know that getting into it. I have grown to love my profession and will continue to bear true faith and allegiance to to my country and the military service. i guess what I'm trying to say is that this guy is a complete idiot with a vietnam era mentality towards soldiers, but you know what. He's entitled to his opinion, and if it came down to it, I would put my life on the line to protect the very freedom that he enjoys and makes him able to say these things. On a personal side note though. I'd love to meet him face to face The sad part is that I guarantee he's not the only person in this country that feels that way. He should kiss the ground that the Soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines walk on. Because of US, he has the quality of life that he has today. Ok, I've rambled long enough and I don't know if I made the point I was trying to bring across, but I feel so passionate about what I'm doing and the impact I'll have on the 600+ lives that I'll come into contact with of the next couple years. If you have served in the military, one of the people you will never forget is your Drill Sergeant!! This guys obviously does not understand what we go through EVERYDAY to do the job we do. He tries to make it look like we're freeloading off of the taxpayers. I would love to see him go through a couple days of what I'll be doing for the next couple years. This is not the time to down talk these young patriots, just thank them. I know you guys on this site are GREAT about supporting the troops. And this guy obviously has no clue. Thanks for listening, have a great day

  15. went out and bought an ohm meter / volt meter and everything has checked out ok --- except this test light turning on and off thing ..... So, correct me if I'm worng -- but the tach input signal should be blinking on and off at the test light during cranking?
  16. ok, here we go. I checked the wires at the coil. Used the ground wire as the ground. Both of the other wires are hot with the key in the on position. I completely unplugged the tach. It's an autometer Phantom series. It has the three wire plug in, in the back. A ground, a 12v, and the signal input. I checked on the test light, grounded to the ground plug for the tach and checked both the 12v and the signal wires. Both are constantly hot when the key is in the on position and during cranking. The motor has a good ground in three places. Once to the battery and two to the firewall. The rotor is in and makes good contact. It does spin. The rebuilt distributer is an autozone oem replacement. hmmmmmmmmm. And I think that's it so far this morning. Going back out to the car to poke and prod a little more -- be back soon unless it starts. So I'll be right back I guess
  17. ok guys, update ................ I have ran the hot wire straight from the battery ......... Nothing I tapped into the ground and added another good positive ground straight to the ground wire that comes from the dizzy to the coil plug in ........ Nothing I got a new coil ...... Nothing Got a complete rebuilt distributer ....... Nothing Man, I'm sooooo close and this thing is killing me. Now, the new coil I bought has that ground wire that attaches under one of the coil screws. Is it a possibility that the wire is not enough and I need to run the actual all metal ground strap that you buy seperately? I assumed that the wire was all that was needed. I've never seen anything act like this and I've cruunched brains with a few other local guys. I don't know their experience levels but I know that you guys usually have the right answer. This is really getting me so frustrated that I want to quit because I'm at my wits end................
  18. SBC 350/HEI, Composite cam gear, No Spark out of the cap. Has electricity going in during cranking with the key. I've changed all the internal parts of the distributer. Coil, condenser, module, pick up coil, to include changing the cap and rotor. So I basically have a new distributer. I seem to have checked everything that I can think of and I'm still not getting anything to the plugs. Anybody have an idea???? This is the only thing keeping me from getting my first start. HELP!!!!!!!!
  19. Well, I got the motor in and it fit -- FIRST try like I had hoped. Just need to shorten the driveshaft a bit and plumb everything up. Now for the problem...... I forgot to fill up the torque converter with fluid before I put it on the tranny. So it looks like it'll have to come back out huh???????
  20. I understand your point' date=' however..... That sig is just serving as a constant reminder to the potential buyers of any product from anywhere that you can be screwed at anytime from anywhere regardless of how much you think you know about a person and their reputation. If the admin has a problem with it, I will take it down willfully and replace it with something more appropriate that will enable readers to form their own opinion. And for the record, that was the 2nd time from a member on this site. Well that's two on a 2,700+ member site, something just doesn't add up here.
  21. Hey Guys, I said "BE CAREFUL" not "don't buy". And being careful means cover all your bases and most of all protect yourself. A seller that you may perceive as trustworthy, no matter where you know them from, may turn around and kick you in the balls at the first sight of a problem.
