  1. Sounds like everything else... there are pros and there are cons. when O-ringing, does the copper gasket stop short of the O-ring and the steel O ring hold the cylinder pressure in, or does it fit over the copper gasket to increase the clamping force above and beyond what pressures the copper alone can manage?
  2. the "View Page Info" in Firefox says it was last updated in 2001... "Thursday, 11 October 2001 12:51:15 AM"
  3. Hmm, My bad, missed the "fine at WOT" part of your first post... still sounds like insufficient fuel at idle tho. I've had an SR18 which had a spark die (wire failed) and all that happened was it ran rough, no spluttering around and hestitating like you describe, it just sounded like a chainsaw and shook due to the uneven firing. I'd still be looking at the fuel system rather than spark, but if you pull a bad plug I'll be happy to admit I was wrong Bad sensor in the air meter causing the ecu to tell the injectors to pump the wrong amounts of fuel?
  4. It's my turn to ressurect this dead thread from the ashes do the Windsor and Cleveland blocks use the same mounts? I've learnt of a Cleveland 302 block and crank available, and CHI ali heads are available here...
  5. on an SR20DE in my serena, I've had that happen when the fuel is out... have you checked the fuel pump?
  6. Do you know the cop's badge number? can you ring the Police Dept and get a copy of his report? even if no ticket issued, since he was called to the scene SOP is to file an incident report on every such call. If his report makes no mention of an "injury" and you can get the cop along to testify that the woman showed no signs of injury at the time, then you have a good chance with a good lawyer of having her case dismissed and a countersuit for stress, inconvenience and mental distress has a good chance of prying damages out of her.
  7. My view of Ricers? People of whatever age, that make visual modifications to any motor vehicle that is intended to provide the appearance of higher then stock performance, while retaining stock performance... I've seen riced up Kenworth trucks... Lights and chrome and exhausts you can loose a man down, yet they are stock under the shell. Non rice, but a similiar thing, is I have also heard of a Lancer Evo, that the engine blew, turbo shattered and bits of blade munched the valves and pistons, so the owner did and engine swap. For the basic non-performance base model Lancer engine from the family sedan. Thats not rice, but someone taking a basic lancer sedan and fitting the complete Evo spec body kit to it, Is...
  8. I had a 1983 Nissan Laurel Medallion stolen once, that was the top of the line luxury cruiser of the time it was made, only model above it in the lineup was the leopard limosine, electric everything, options and extra trim out the wazoo... 20 years old at the time and the option lists was still pretty respectable compared to a new car. It also had over a grand worth of SCUBA gear in the boot ready for a dive trip. that hurt as much as the loss of the car. More so since I already had 2 other cars at that point.
  9. So, if it's now a V8 G-box, and I get an adapter plate, how hot a 302 can I run before having to shop for a new box? In all the reading I've done here on Hybrids, I haven't run across a post or thread that give the typical breaking strains of the various boxes... Sure theres statements than such-and-such a box is stronger than that one over there, and others talking about swapping out their boxes as they upgrade. But theres nothing that says that a FS5W71B with break at x HP and y Ft/Lb, and a FS5W71C will break at x+A Hp and y+B Ft/Lb I gather from discussions on blown trannys, taken with other posts about their engine upgrades that the FS5W71B box will manage 250Hp, but break between that point and 300Hp when driven in an exciting manner. Can anyone give a hard figure of the Do-Not-Exceed HP for a FS5W71B box to keep engine tunes under?
  10. Heres the pics of my gearbox... you can clearly see where the starter bump has been shifted over to the other side. A bottom view Heres a pic from trademe, the NZ equivalent of ebay, showing a FS5W71B without any modifications... quite a lot cleaner The guy selling this is a member of Zclub.co.nz
  11. Haven't seen this thread before, I have capsized a number of optimists bumming around Kawhia Harbour in my early 20's, and sailed on the Spirit of New Zealand for a voyage. But I prefer power boats, so long as there's plenty of gas in them
  12. Umm... that might be it... I got the box, definately a FS5W71B from all the pics on the net and HybridZ, but the car as posted on Zclub, is set up with a Twin pipe V8 layout with connector tube between the two pipes just back of the tranny/driveshaft join point. The car also came with a number of 302 SBF pistons and a BIG air cleaner casing with a "4 barrel" decal in it. So the previous owner may have been planning to use the fairlady box on his 302 conversion. I'll have some pics later today.
  13. I brought the gearbox that came with my RHD 280Z fairlady (280ZX stateside) back to the workshop from the car in the shed at the far end of the farm, however looking at it the starter motor bulge in the belhousing has obviously been welded in rather than cast in place. It's now in a 4 o'clock position on the front of the bellhousing, placing it on the passenger side of the car, (driver side in the states). That called for a bit of looking around since I was sure that the stock position was on the driver side (passenger side...) I found THIS: notice the starter on the right side of the motor... 9 o'clock position. I'll take some photos and load them up, but does anyone know what my tranny, which looks identical to a FS5W71B, has been modified to fit?
  14. After a week with no power after snow brought down the lines this winter (our first at the new farm in the mountains) I'm seriously considering a 15Kw PTO generator to go on the back of the 35Hp tractor we have.
  15. Looks like a KL60 series to me, age is right too. Probably the P series I6 engine 3.9L and GOBS of torque, other than the P series I've only seen diesels and RB30's on old patrols here in NZ.
  16. I'd still like to see a solidworks 3d file of a SBF flat plane so I can satisfy my curiosity by sending it off to a crank maker to see how much the'd cost to make
  17. don't the gas stations have trigger switches on the pumps and certifiers? here there's a number of organisations that are contracted by the ministry of consumer affairs that drive round and fill certain containers of set sizes and ensure what the pump reads, is what the container holds. if anything's reading a wrong volume pumped, then woe betide the station manager!
  18. Whenever I see discussions on forums about having to run special wiring for welders and heavy duty electronics... I'm glad to live in a 240 volt country. All I did to upgrade my electronics in the workshop for a welder was get a 20A circuit breaker off the electrician re-wiring the farm shed down the track, and swap the old 10A wire fuse for the circuit breaker.
  19. So the brits will be able to use Vauxhall Chevalier mounts as well if they came with an RB rather than a brit engine, the VL Commodore is a rebadged Opel, as is the Vauxhall, also available in some markets as a Caddilac.
  20. They're available, they're cheap, the curve along the front of the bumper looking down looks to match the curve of the front of the S130 nose, the sides back tot he wheel arches look to match without a lot of work. And shipping of a proper S130 airdam from either japan or the states is F**King expensive unless the piece is chopped into shorter bits. There's a S130 with a Del Sol Civic bumper with pics floating around, the Serena one looks to be a better match. any gaps ought to fit up with a bit of ExpandaFoam and some Bog, plus a coat of paint.
  21. I can't find any specs on the width of the S130 nose, only the 280Z onto 280zx thread mentioning it's 5" wider. I don't want to run all the way down to the other end of the farm with a tape measure to check the fairlady in the shed there, so does anyone have the width of the 280ZX bumper specs handy? I have a Nissan Serend, '96 model people mover x van, and wondered if it would be able to be chopped onto a S130 without TOO much extra work. The stock bumper is just such a heavy lump. The Serena bumper is 170cm or 66 inches across. Just curious. Thanks in Advance.
