  1. Hey MiloZ, Welcome to the fun. There's a lot that you need. You mentioned the wiring harness, you'll need both the engine harness, and the dash harness. BCU, IPDM(power management), Ignition, w/ Key and FM ant. Fusebox from drivers side. You might want to get the Y pipe too to help with running the exhaust. The gauges are nice to have, I've worked up a plan to be able to use them. If you can, grab the differential since it's got the rotor wheels to be read by the speedo. At the min you'll need the sensors. since it's availiable you should also grab the body harness, better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. You'll also want the AC Amp which runs the gauges. If the radiator is in good shap grab it, or at least the fans off it. You might also ask about the seats, they'll fit in the 240Z w/o too much modification. I also grabbed the door harnesses, just so I may be able to update to power windows. Really if you're getting all that for 1800, it's a pretty good deal! Send me a PM and I'll get you my # and be happy to talk about this swap, I've learned a lot about it while preparing for my HR swap. Phar
  2. Wheels look like 17's or 18's, Too much rim for how little tire IMO looks kinda funny. I'd guess the car it lowered 2" look at Wheel dist from sides of the well to the top, not the difference, is approx your lowered ratio. This is subjective, as it's just a picture. It's going to turn out differently on your car even if that's what you're aiming for, almost guaranteed. I bet the guys at discount tire could name the rims. all I know it that they look familiar.
  3. Yeah! That's a pretty nice looking 75'! I'm digging the color. I'm going to change mine to red, but haven't found the perfect shade yet. Though I've got a few in the running. Smokes a little eh? What grade of oil do you have in it? 10/30 should be working pretty well. If someone put synthetic in it, it might smoke a little since that stuff is thinner than most. Have you checked compression and leakdown to diagnose? Phar
  4. There's also a stickie about replacing the Datsun wiper motor with a early 90's honda accord wiper motor, cheap and almost bolt in. Do a little searching, you'll find all you need. MUCH better idea, is to post picts of your Z and tell us what you're doign with it, WE LOVE BUILDS! Phar
  5. That's cool, Who's car was that red one? I wonder how many Z's showed up. Edit: Aziza's... But I thought you sold it?
  6. I don't have pictures just yet, but I have a set of 77 belts and yes they do mount to the rear strut towers. the upper belt mounts to the bolts on top of the tower. If you find some 2+2 belts they'll mount to the side of the B pillar behind the interior body panel. Either way it shouldn't be too tough to mount them. tho I'd use grade 5 bolts at a min. Alternatively, you can easilly pick up a 5 point harness kit, it'll mount behind the seat to the floor. I couldn't tell you the Chassis differece there, I thought the 75' also mounted to the tower.
  7. So sad about the engine, but it must have been an amazing amount of pressure in there to do that kind of damage. Do you think it was Detonation? What gas were you running when the genie got out?
  8. Yeah I was going to say you don't much care for speed do you? 4.11's are what I have on my rockcrawler, it's got power, but over 50MPH in 5th gear is rough. (on 35's even) Are you making a drift car? That's really the only thing I could be thinking you'd need it for. 3.90's are going to be plenty for acceleration. You might be better off putting a lower 1st and 2nd gears in your tranny and keeping the higher top end, that way you'll be fun on both ends. Phar P.S: oh and your speedo will be off about 9.6% (3.9/3.56)
  9. this is a matter of preference. What are you looking for in a bumper? If you're looking for protection in an accident, then leave the park benches on your car. If not, and you're looking just to be legal, just go with the 240z bumpers. It'd be way too much work to refab the 77' bumpers, they're too heavy to start with. But hey, maybe you have mad skills, We'd love to see another bumper fab idea. Alternately you can get on MSA, and get a bumper kit, different styles, or go with a 240z Carbon fiber or fiberglass repro bumper. All look nice, but again it's your car, you make it how YOU want it, not what we think it should be. Phar
  10. Awesome Z, Tho for a daily driver you shouldn't weld the gears, unless you like farkin up your tires. you should just go with a R200 out of a late 80's Turbo 300zx. Look in the forums about diffs'. Phar
  11. It was scarey then, as it is now... The motivational poster is still funny though.
  12. I'd actually been looking into that same problem on my HR build. The AC pump is mounted too low, so what I was envisioning is a bracket that will mount the AC pump higher off the right side of the engine. I'm not sure yet if I'll be able to fit it, since my Engine is not yet in, but that's the idea. I might use a couple tensioners to help route the belt out that far. Hopefully I'll be able to integrate the 350Z system into the 280Z using the existing core inside under the dash. I need to find out about the O rings and stuff w/ the more modern refrigerant, but that all comes after the Engine is mounted. I also want to integrate the PS pump on the left side of the engine, so I can setup PS w/ a Subi rack etc. Phar
  13. Ahh Another Z-ombi... Z post back from the dead. If that 350 is really a 69 Vette motor, it might actually be worth something on the Vette boards. but I'm sorry to say that Z is in pretty bad shape. It's unfortunate, I hope you didn't pay too much for it what 3 years ago? Unfortunately most Z's end their lives this way, rusting and parted out. I'm sure it game someone a lot of pleasure. Perhaps you should consider buying a nicer body S30, and swapping parts over. In fact, there's a thread up right now from SloPoke, where he's got a Z he's pulling the engine and tranny from, then part or sell the shell. It looks in decent shape, I bet you could buy it and ship it cheap. Swap over your engine tranny (and pass side mirror ) n you'd be set! Phar
  14. Er that's PharaohABQ, but thanks a bunch for the mention. Your car is coming back together so well, it's an inspiration to us all. Yeah 1NONLYZ is a good guy to get parts from. Could you tell us a little about your new radiator/intercooler? it looks shiney! Are you going back to the late 70's bumper, or are you thinking about the bumper conversion? I mean, living through a crash like that I would be tempted to go with the stock park benches. Thanks! PharaohABQ
  15. hey I'm glad to hear it got you home well and in one piece with a huge smile on your face. it's pretty amazing. I hope I'll get to see it in person sometime, but unless you make it to New Mexico it's not likely. I'll be following your sites. I love how it turned out, and I think the SR was a good choice. I'm really impressed at what you said Nat Speed did for you. That's worth a ton to me, wish they were close by too. I'll be upgrading to AZ coils at somepoint. Again Jared, very nice Z and thank you sooo much for sharing your build with us. Phar
  16. Pict please Seems I've heard that "Now the fun begins" phrase many times.
  17. hehe it was probably made before most of the guys at autozone were born.
  18. Sadly S30's are really easy to steal. I had my 78 2+2 stolen some years back, and it sucked, but fortunately I was driving about and found it sitting in a parking lot w/ the windows down. The ignition still had the flathead screwdriver they hammered into it lodged in place. I didn't lose much but a crappy stereo and a week of bumming rides. It sucked tho. An alarm is one of the best things you can do. But know that even with one you're still running a risk. A Disc Brake lock is an idea. Usually they use them on motorcycles but there are ones you can get for cars. They may work, but don't forget them unless you like buying calipers. Another Idea is the Brake line lock. You can get them in Manual w/ a key, or Electrically actuated solinoid. These you STEP HARD on the brakes and Set the lock. It's then much like having the Ebrake on, but for all 4 wheels. Likely the car wont go far if at all in this condition. Fuel cuts, ignition cuts all work but can be defeated. A decent alarm (& stickers saying it's alarmed) will make just as much difference. If you're enterprising, you can swap in the 350Z engine computer and NATS system, so if you don't have the key it won't start, or if they have a non nats key it'll stay in limp mode. More than that, you can shave your locks and use bluetooth. Dunno there's a lot of ways, but really if they want it, they're going to take it. So look into Classic Car Insurance (Haggarty etc). It's cheaper than most standard insurance, AND it covers the car on a much higher value incase those rat-bastages actually hurt your babies. Phar
  19. Sounds awesome, We love to see project picts so whatever you've got, just post them up here. We'd be happy to try to get you pointers. Starting a project though, it's a good idea to make sure you know what you're getting into, more than half the project cars that get started are never completed. Know too that it's going to be expensive. Take your budget and double it. There's always more costs than you're expecting. These are 40 year old cars (33 I know)- old tho. Best advice I can tell you is to be certain you're starting with a good base. so inspect your car and take note of any rust (I can't imagine S30's are cheap or at all common in Norway) Anything you find will need to be addressed. From that I remember of norway was the rain, I don't know about winter, but the salty air won't help your car at all, so take precautions. So make a plan, and see where you should start. Since you're planning the engine swap, you might consider tearing it all down and painting before building anything up. The biggest issue is $ or in your case, I think Euros right? Good undercoating will go a long way. As for the suspension. Tokico Blues are decent, but you should read in here for spring rates, and I guess a lot of guys like the Illumina adj shocks. You can get them both off Ebay, or a number of dealers. You should also look up Arizona Z Car, they're not cheap, but they have some nice stuff. There's a guy on here, I think in Finland or Sweden who's been reguilding a 240z, that's just awesome, total rebuild, you'll have to search, but maybe someone has the link. Phar
  20. I have a L28 from my 78 280z, I'll sell cheap, but I'm in Albuquerque so the shipping would be a killer, I know of a few other L28's out here maybe even an ET, but again the shipping wouldn't be cheap... Phar
  21. Says the guy w/ the Red Z31... Yeah, Problem is Black in new mexico is very hot in the summer. I'v a ways out from paint right now unfortunately. but Getting the tranny together was a happy point. Clutch installed Tranny installed Color I'm thinking...
  22. Yeah, the car is looking amazing, Can't wait to see the end result pictures. I've been following it your threads a long time and it's awesome to see it almost done. It looks so good. Now how do you get it insured for what you've got into it is my big question now. I mean it's one of a kind, basically perfect. Phar
  23. Oh, New board won't let my edit my own post. Anyway, Some of what I've done: My HR engine was from an Automatic vehicle. the Harness I have is also for an Automatic, I dont know if I'll have an issue with this later on. We'll see. I may need to find a harness from a manual tranny car. I've removed the Automatic timing wheel, and installed a used Manual Flywheel, and clutch from an HR vehicle. I inspected the Conscentric clutch on my tranny, and though the manual says to replace it, I'm going take a chance and reuse the cylinder. if it leaks I'll have to replace parts, but I think it'll be okay. I then have mounted my 6sp manual tranny to the HR engine, I don't see where the preed sensor is supposed to connect, but that could be part of the harness differences. I'll need to compare and maybe make a splice. Next I'll need to fashion the Tranny mount crossmember for the tranny. (might need to talk to austin-240Hoke about that part, his looks awesome. ) I'll be making my engine mounts a bit differently because I want to use the factory mounts/isolators. I'm also working on a front crossmember to put under the HR engine that the mounts may then bolt to. But I need to pull the L28 from the Z first for that. On a separate note, I've decided to paint my Z35 kinda a candy apple red over gold. Should look real nice. we'll see tho. Black is also so tempting. Phar
  24. I've done a little more work on my project. I may be starting a new thread as this one is much more the planning and parts gathering, rather than the actual build. I was going to upload some picts, but Photobucket is farkin up on me.
