did you separate the two halves of the caliper? i did and then read in my haynes manual that you are not supposed to!! to me if there are bolts on it i assume that it can be taken apart and put together again!! this may be one of the reasons why. in order to get my back together again i had to talk to one of the mechanics at nissan and he had to take out one of his books on deciphering the bolt grading stamps in order to get me the torque settings.
you're looking to go the 300zx vented rotor route? if so i've got a spare set of S12W calipers i just rebuilt, i even teflon coated the pistons so they won't rust. i could let them go seeing as they spares. they are off an 88 fore runner. send me a PM if you want them.
if you wreck any of those little plastic pieces i found that the ones off the 84-87 300zx work just fine. i haven't seen an early z in the jy for about 10 years but there are plenty of 300s.
no, that strap is origional. i haven't use the solid diff mount but i think it would be too harsh for me. the route i am currently going is this one http://240z.jeromio.com/diffmount.html
i like this approach because it not only gets rid of the stock diff mount and strap but it also retains some isolation between the diff and frame.
this is the kind of work and attention to detail that keeps me coming to this site every day. awesome work!! of course, that being said, now you must divulge your secrets. where did you order that door from and what mechanism are you using?
i've got a dead set of chrome and some hydrochloric acid in my basement. if you can give me a day or so i'll get back to you on whether it works or not. i don't think the acid will eat the plastic but am not sure of the chrome. otherwise you can go here http://www.datsunrestore.com/catalog.html near the bottom of the page you can get them for a measly $232.50.
the chrome molding is only held in by an 1/8 inch flap of rubber on either side of it. if you are going to replace the rubber then you can just cut the flaps off and not risk bending the chrome. when installing the new rubber it will be pliable enough that it should be easy to replace the chrome without incident.
i like the idea but personally i would add one more fin and either change them to 60 degrees or shave them to half the height they are currently at. i would definately keep them the polished aluminium.
