  1. May be a silly question, but where is the outlet/return routed?
  2. Why smaller, then it's even hard for people like me to get them mixed up looks great as always.
  3. The new picture of the pulley it looks much closer. If this picture correlates to the oil pump drive shaft that also looks correct. To check the V notch on the cam pulley you will have to remove the cam bolt (~100ft/lbs) to see the other notch. It looks like someone has engraved a line perhaps to extend the hidden notch under the cam bolt. If this is the case your cam is close although from that view it could be slightly off. Tough to see from the camera angle. The marks on the chain move around as the engine is turned. So overtime the engine does a full rotation it will move it's place on the cam gear. I think 4 turns and it will go back to it's original position. These marks are meant for setup only, and not a good way to judge cam position once assembled. This is what I have learned at least. Did you try checking your ignition timing with a timing light? Could it not be possible the mechanic was talking about ignition timing (Although, i suspect he would change it on the spot).
  4. Do the mechanics notes mention cam timing being severely retarded or ignition timing? The picture of the pulley does not make it look like the engine is at TDC.
  5. Speaking of shrouds like the one above. It's hard to see from the pictures, but is there any space between the rad and the shrouds in that kind of setup? If the sheet metal is mounted flat against the rad does that not decrease the efficiency of the rad drastically? Or are the pictures just deceiving and there is in fact a small spacing?
  6. Looks pretty good Although I ended up soending a little extra as the kameari unit from msa. Its down to $200 now.
  7. Someone will correct me I'm sure. It's common knowledge a set of rockers is set with a camshaft. If said camshaft is moved to another head, which places the wear pattern in a different spot due to lash thickness etc, those rockers are no longer matched with the cam. True, or false?
  8. Everytime I see those fuel lines I drool. Great job overall Derek. Very excited to see a video. What did you use, to attach the fuel lines to the injectors? Custom machined bits?
  9. I'm happy with the kit. Kit pretty well too out of the box. I purchased the "Premium kit".
  10. Thanks Xnke, Unfortunately it came without any documentation from MSA. But yes, it is a MLS gasket. For the price of the gasket, I think it's worth a try. The only thing is I wonder if it's worth cleaning all the viton coating off, and spraying it with something new.
  11. I installed a 1mm MLS Kaminari headgasket in my new rebuild using ARP studs. If I remember properly, torqued down to 60ft/lbs. I did a 25 minute break in, and now the head has to come back off. Is the head gasket reusable? I've read thing's that if the sealer is intact it should be ok. Should I use a spray on sealer to make sure it seals?
  12. Could this all be avoided by finding a set of SU's?
  13. I've been trolling these pages for over 2 years and this is the first time I've come across that page. Normally when I see an angelfire link it leads to a website which died about 12 years ago. Great read!
  14. I think it's fantastic, and if I hadn't bought a retro sound unit already I'd be buying it! Very cool.
  15. Ghost AMR Plus 5900 and a Jamis Ventura Race for the road. Both fairly basic, but they have just the right parts to keep me going, and I also don't have to compete like an expert to deserve the better bikes
  16. Hey Madkaw. I've been having issues with my early tach (Similar build date as you) and my ZX distributor. I noticed an 8920 is available locally, I may pick it up if you've had success with it. Better yet, I have a MS2 on my desk awaiting install. Did you have any luck with the 8920 prior to MS as I believe you were running a ZX distributor as well.
  17. Haha, Oh man. I think my girlfriend was even excited when I saw this video the other day. She has no interest in cars at all, it was just the fact that the video brought me so much joy! Glad to hear it's continuing to be succesful!
  18. Me as well. I have an MS2 sitting on my desk as well. I've done minimal reading so far, but I do believe I will be going the EDIS route as it seems the most simple. I'm sure it will come in very handy.
  19. Thumbs up! Lot's of work still ahead i'm sure but what a monumental step! Looks great.
  20. My dowels unfortunately went with the block I do believe, which is at the machinist. So I can't say for sure how correct the alignment of the HG is in that photo. As we sit, the head is in a crate and it's ready to be shipped out to Whitehead Performance in Ontario. They said they could repair my damage if too large. Do a more serious porting job and rebuild the head. It was a fun experience, and I think i'd tackle it again but this rebuild is taking far too long and i'd like it out of the way. I'd also practice on a practice head like everyone suggests too! Xnke, I found a list of diameters of the head gaskets available. Most are 89, or 89.1mm. The only one larger that I could find was the MLS gaskets at 91.5mm.
  21. Great job on the trim then! I'm impressed, and dissapointed this isn't an option that retrosound offers! Looks like I may have to attempt something simar to what you've done!
  22. Just picked up a retrosound system myself. Did you get the chrome trim plate through retrosound, or did you somehow do it yourself? They only offered me the black version.
  23. If it ends up being a complete disaster, can I buy it for a coffee table? It's just so pretty. I love seeing your creativity. Really blown away by how quick it's coming together as well. I can't seem to get my motor together, and it's just a rebuild. Really love the external lines as well, PITA to make, but satisfying when you get them right. Cheers to you good sir.
  24. Done and done. It is a stock P90 head I removed off a 120k mile 1981 280zx. It looked awful, but was pressure tested and straight. I have a Colt c542.s cam (280 duration, .510 lift), SI stainless valves, Schneider Springs waiting for installation.
