  1. Some of the guys at the autox event commented on how my Z was leaning over really far in the corners, but it didn't seem too bad to me. It did slide around a bunch but that had more to do with a dirty track and small tires. Even though this is mostly a street car should I get some stiffer springs? Currently I have MSA 1" Lowered and Tokico Blues. What do you all think? http://www.youtube.com/user/gherwilm
  2. I had an 84 2 door. Loved that stupid little thing...
  3. Sounds exactly like my first solo run a month ago. I don't have runs to compare with but I'm sure my tires are old, and could use some alignment tuning too.
  4. Don't tease! Those are near impossible to find, at least near me....
  5. Ok, you got me to take some, I'll post them in a sec... Here they are... Everything looks pretty nice. The end stitching is well done but not 100% around every edge, I'm guessing most are that way. The center section was not cut per my request, oh and the snaps are for the E-brake boot, forgot to ask for those to be deleted... 4 main pieces of the 13pc kit. Heel pad is nice as is the Jute. The rest, consisting of the rear wheel well and shock tower, side sil area's and under seat pc's.
  6. I've been using a Marine oil change pump to drain and fill my trans. I've done it twice so far, once for the lil misshap with 5th gear adn once after the break-in. Not too messy and gets everything out of the trans.
  7. I like the VW TDI's but they are spendy, although they do hold their value. I'm looking for something new(er) too. The newer Carolla gets 35 hwy and is a decent looking car.
  8. I know there is another thread on this topic and I think it was pretty long. IIRC I found that if the bolts holding my locks were TOO tight, it would keep everything from moving freely. In MY car, I also found several different lenth bolts holding stuff together, so some of my issues could be a interferance fit from a too long bolt. I'm not really driving my car too much so I've not adressed yet. lazy...
  9. I think what Grumpy is getting at is that if you invest in some tools and have the know how (that's the tough part), that you can potentially gain more from tuning in the garage with your own equipment than dropping cash and hoping a dyno shop will help net any gain.

    T-5 differences?

There are lots of different T-5's and I suspect most of the differences are in the gear ratios / size of the internal gears, and possibly metalurgy of the internals. I think a rebuild kit will cover Ford and GM versions, but I'm not 100% on that. I started out with a V6 GM World Class and swapped in a "Z" Code heavy duty gearset, which is the same set in the 93 Cobra "R", and used a GM input shaft. I don't know if the input shaft I got was special or not but it is a GM spline. I called Kevin at TheGearBox.org told him what I wanted and he set me up with the parts I needed. His labor charges arn't too bad, shipping would suck though. Kevin is super helpful and browsing his site will net you some more info. I'd search google, and hit Kevin's site. http://www.thegearbox.org/T5.html
  11. Nice work. Can you give us the dim's on that cell and a pic from the rear? How much is blow the valance?
  12. Glad to see you go your new box together Terry, Glad it's working for you Mine is holding together, I'm well through break in milage and I've got new fluid in it now, I've had no problems with notchy shifting, but I don't have the Gforce gearset.
  13. Just got an Email from DatsunSpirit, he's shipped my carpet UPS Ground and I figure I'll have it by this weekend. I'll snap some shots and share when it gets in.
  14. That is specifically the reason I learn how to do almost everything I can myself. I have some thoughts on accountability but they are random and useless here. DIY Everything!
  15. There is at least one other current thread on sound deadening, can we leave this one for carpet?
  16. They sound like simular kits. I asked Datsun Spirit if they could NOT make the die cuts in the trans tunel, which he could. Cost was like $320 for the 9pc kit + $60 for the rear tire/tower covers + $20 shipping for a total of $404.95 shipped, and 2-3 weeks lead time due to the die cut deletes, which is more than datsunstore's. One thing that really sold me was the number of detailed pictures of the kit from DS, I wanted to SEE what I was getting, the other was the extreamly fast email responce from Eiji and his ability to meet my needs. If you buy the datsun store product, would be interesting to see if they are the exact same kit or not.
  17. Better lock the doors before you do that, I can only imagine them opening the door to bail! HA!
  18. Hmm, i like the idea, how are you going to secure the panel and finish it? I'd like to see you retain 4 the stock atachment screws for simplicity, they can be covered up once mounted and will alow it to be a "bolt in" mod. I'm working on something simular, didn't think to cut the piece to fit within the original 'frame' because I was trying to eliminate the original piece and went back to it for mounting purposes...
  19. Please post picks of your install and any helpful hints you run into I'll do the same, my kit should be in first week of April.
  20. I was following a current thread over at ClassicZCars.com on carpet kits, and ran across this site "Datsun Sprit" mentioned in the posts. I checked out his kit, which has a great photo if the pieces laid out. I asked Eiji (owner) if I could order the kit w/ out the trans tunnell holes cut in it and he said "no problem" !!! So I'm ordering his kit, w/ no cut holes and the rear wheel/strut tower covers in a dark silver. Here are some shots of the light silver installed, looks nice. http://www.datsunspirit.com/s31-carpet.html
  21. Anyone bite the bullet yet? The upholstery shop told me they buy the ACC brand carpet kits. Their site has a ton of options but the kits change from year to year. My issue now is whick year kit to order. I think I want a later 280 kit to get the rear wheel covers included in the kit, I think the earlier Z's just had vynil back there so it's not included in the kit, just the rear floor pc. Thoughts? I think I'll order the 280 kit and request no holes to be cut in it.
  22. I love it! My favorite is when you get back from the run, you pull imediatly into the garage I made a couple of those and now some of my neighbors give me nasty looks, I'm assuming their just jelous.
  23. Looked on the History Channell site and didn't see anything
