  1. Anyone having any issues with fuses tripping on thier painless harnesses? Currently my turnsignal fuse will last about 10 minutes, and when it goes, I loose the dash lights, guages stop working, turn signals stop, and brakes stop. I don't recall having this issue in the past, but to be honest, I just got the car back home after having it in storage for a year or so. Any thoughts? I think I might have too much of a load on that circuit and didn't realize I had everything wired up on the same one. But the wires are labled, so that doesn't make a lot of sense, but this was my first wiring job... Thanks.
  2. I have seen that a few times too on the Hybridz site using Chrome. I uninstalled Chrome, and I'm running a scan now, have been having some issues, don't know if it had to do with Chrome or not.
  3. Congrats! Your car is one of my all time favorites!
  4. So what kind of work are you doing, cleaning, tool hand? It takes quite a bit of exposure and training with this equipment before they'll let you mess with anything too serious. The equipment is expensive and dangerous. I'm not trying to be negative, but give you an idea of some of the reasons they aren't tripping over themselves to show you the ropes. I went to VoTech for 4 years and worked in the tool room and on the production line for about 7 years. It was a lot of fun and challenging. Today I wish I still had access to all those machines but I chose another path. Do you have any tech schools around? They typically they will have night classes. This would be a great place to learn about how to run these machines. Let your boss know you want to learn more, show some initiative. I say enroll in a night class, they might pick up the tab. Good luck.
  5. Posting these makes me sad. Z hasn't been home for almost a year due to some remodeling stuff. Good news is I've spent the last month getting the garage cleaned up enough so she can come home! Plan on getting started on the interior this winter.
  6. Take it apart and see what you have, having the block vatted is about 50 bucks and if all it needs is a hone and new rings then you'd be going for less than 200 bucks (The hone and new bearings should be less than 150 or so) and you would know what you have. If it needs more, complete motor machine work will run you around 600+ if you need everything done including balancing and all that jive. I would not trust that motor, don't care who I got it from, that from dealing with 4 different guys before i found a decent block to rebuild, let alone putting it in my car and running with it.
  7. Wow, that will really change how you view your home's security! I'm glad your ok, that could have gone really badly. We had someone knock on our door about 4 or 5 months ago after midnight. When I opened the door and he didn't recognize me, he freaked out and jetted. He didn't see my pistol but I think he knew he was in the wrong place.
  8. I rebuilt and upgraded my T-5, best tool was the Manual. I was able to borrow a buddies press. Other than that, snap ring pliers were the only tool i had to buy, rest of my hand tools,, my heavy bench and vice did the trick.
  9. You might as well tear it all the way down and see what's what with everything. Take the block in to a good machine shop, have it cleaned and checked out, get a set of new set of bearings, paint it and put it back together. That way you KNOW that there isn't trash or other issues with the bottom end.
  10. Just two things. They have V8 kits for those , and I've been thinking it would make a great format for an electric swap.
  11. Go here, Kevin is super helpful and has alot of upgrade parts for your T5. I went with the Cobra "R" gearset and a few other bits. Been a couple of years but it's a one-stop-shop for this trans. Good luck http://www.thegearbox.org/home.html
  12. Should be ok, but if you park inside, your garage will smell like gas.
  13. I remember that. Dwight is definitely a TA guy anyway Seems he sold the Z to a "Sucker" or something in a later episode?
  14. After the organic pesticides part, I tried 3 other spots in the vid but couldn't do it. Wow
  15. looks good, I'm wanting to do something similar using black and grey.
  16. Any changes you want to make need to be laid out with a scribe first. This will really help when finishing the slots to size and you'll be able to see what it's going to look like BEFORE you cut. How long will the slots be? 1) IF the holes will be a drill dia. longer or more, I'd center drill then step drill a hole next to each existing hole and dremel/file to finish. 2) If the holes are only to be slotted a bit, lay it out and use 1/4" endmill in your dremel to rough it out then file to finish. The layout lines are your guide. EDIT: Sorry didn't get that you were cutting the cap out to replace with a plate. I have have excellent luck with my sawzall on stuff like this, but it is only as accurate as your layout and is also dependent on your eye/hand coordination! Lay it out, rough it in with the Sawzall and file to finish!
  17. I've got 4 3-ton and I need to upgrade to larger (they are too small to help on the 4Runner) but I seem to have plenty of room working under the car. I'm 6'3" and about 210, have pulled the trans with this set up with the V8 still in the car. That job was a little cramped but if I drop the exhaust, I have plenty of room for pretty much any job.
  18. While you have it apart you might as well make any changes, if any, that you have been wanting to make. It's also an opportunity to check everything. Since you didn't build the motor, it will make you a lot more in-tune with your car.
  19. Don't have a lot of time right now but I suggest the following. Get a machinists Handbook, indespensible for any machinist. Get a dial guage with a good mag base. Always adust for the slack of the table when changing direction. Added Thoughts: Try to always lay out your parts with dye and a scribe, could save you a part. Get an "edge-finder" In addition to the Dial Guage, a test indicator is also helpful. These should get you started.
  20. Wonder what the little cab will feel like during cruise night in the middle of the summer...
  21. Looks good, just wanted to note that you really should try to take the mat up the firewall as much as you can as well as cover the entire rear deck of the car, LOTS of sound coming from behind you.
  22. feels good doesn't it? Sounds great, what mufflers are you running?
  23. Really cool. Me personally, would have made all 4 doors functional even if it only sat 3 Really like the way this thing is shaping up cool find.
