  1. Sounds like a cool project, hope you get it running!
  2. Good to hear! I have a 94 sport with "JUST" 146K You guy's have any trans problems? Mine is slipping to get into first only when cold and once it's in the first time, she shifts just fine the rest of the drive. Loving it.
  3. So I'm at the Upholstery shop getting my quote, the manager guy likes the Z and is giving me mostly praise about how clean the install was. He didn't like my remote oil filler hoses, and mentioned I should get some made. Oh well. Anyway, this other guy comes out, doesn't work there but seems to be a car runner or knows someone at the shop, he has another shops mechanics shirt on. So he comes out and is checking the car out and asking lots of questions, seems to know a bit about HybridZ's, and I'm like cool. He's got a 72 240 he's wanting to drop a LT1 into. Cool. Then, he starts jabbering. and making comments that kind of erked me. Comments that were supposed to portray how much HE knew about SBC Z's, and all the while he's asking questions about every little thing I had put on the car. Making it perfectly clear he know's 0 about the swap. I start to realize he's at least half full of it, but I'm ok with it, he has a Z and is just a chatty guy. So, he runs off to get another shop guy to see my car, so I wait around. The manager guy say's, referring to the lug, "He'll talk your ear off". Guy comes running back out with his buddy, asking me to start it up and starts talking about this black super charged LT1 240 he used to own that had like 650 hp, "you know the one on all the 'such and such website' videos" I was like, WHA? I know you didn't just try to pass off Darius's Z as your own! What a doof. At lease I know where NOT to take my car if I need services that his company offers. So, I'm like, I need to get out of here SOON. I get in rev it a little so they can giggle and as I'm backing out, he has some words to live by for me... "Drive it like you stole it, it's what I do!" No moral, just had to tell the story...
  4. I stoped by a recomended shop to get a quote on carpet, door panells and seat recovers and basically decided to do the Carpet and Doors myself. I may let him do my seats depending on what I find. Carpet, he buys ACC's carpets and would charge me $400 labor to install, the carpet kit is about $300, YIKES! Door Panells, I told him I just wanted simple door panells with Leather Strap pulls and he said $4-500...EACH! I bought an interior finishing book for 30 bucks... Seats, If I buy the factory type slip on covers, he'll install the covers and new foam for 150 per seat, which didn't sound to bad, so if I don't find any seats I like used, I'll probably go this route. I have a story about another guy that was there, but I'll post it in the Non-Tech forum later.
  5. ZMASTER, if you want to put Dragons on your car, by all means do! It doesn't really matter what anyone else says or thinks about YOUR car. It's YOUR car. Having said that, you won't see any on my car, but it's not about me, it's about YOU. BTW...I've been contemplating a dinosaur on my hood... http://www.price-oil.com/Pictures/Sinclair%20Logo_1.jpg
  6. If you do that, clean everything, and use a heat gun on the first layer when you smooth it out, and again on the 2nd layer.
  7. Cool car, clean install. But the car is just not clean enough for the $$ he's asking IMO.
  8. It is probably easiest to try and peel or chip it off when it's cold out. When it's warm or hot, it's just going to be soft and will make a mess. You might try contacting Dynamat tech.
  9. Most Fuel cells have those types of vents, the question is how do you keep your garage from smelling while keeping the security of the rollover vent. The roll over vent alow the cell to breathe, but in the event of a rollover shut the flow of fuel off. I didn't think about the loop in the line, or the fact that it needs to end up being below the fuel cell in case the car ends up, upside down. Another note, I HAD my vent tube just pressed on the vent w/ no hose clamp and just routed the line outside the car, it was around the level of the bottom of the cell. Anyway, I filled the tank to the TOP and all was fine untill the tank set in the sun and the gas started expanding! IT ran out the vent tube for a while, then the fuel relaxed the vent line and it slipped off the vent and it when I found out this was happening it was but barely burbling out of the vent and lukily running around the cell and hardly any fuel go into the car. I only post this to let you know, cause I didn't, how important it is to have this stuff sorted out and hooked up correctly. I got lucky that the garage was open, and that I even noticed it and was able to get everything cleaned up w/ little dramma! For me, this is a really good discussion. Keep it up fellas.
  10. That's cool, what kind of fabric is that? Neat idea.
  11. Whatever it is, it's a rough car for the jack he wants for it...
  12. There HAS to be a trans shop in Houston that can service that trans for you. Don't be afraid, get a service manual, tear it appart, take picutres and notes and put it back together. Just make sure you SEAT the retaining rings really well! If you bring it up to Tulsa, I'll do it but I can't confirm how long it will take to get done.
  13. He could benchmark some of the other shops around, and google some stuff. I'd say depending on how big he's going to be, maybe start with excell or access.
  14. On my camaro I ran the oil pressure from the port under the exhaust manifolds. I think it's right in the middle if the under side wall of the block. I used copper line, then a coiled plastic line to the body.
  15. I've got the same issue. I was looking for a small charcoal canister to vent to and then run the other line to the intake to pull the fuel vapors out of the canister once the car is started. There may be another way but I don't know of what it might be. I'm interested in seeing what pops up here, cause my garage is STINKY.
  16. noodling could be cool but the stories of finding one that has a hook in his mouth doesn't sound so cool.
  17. Well, after a couple more runs, the speedo is still intermittant, but works alot more than it did. I'll look into some shielding.
  18. Thanks for the input I think a 02 sensor is probably a must for anyone that cares about tuning. I'm seeing that from the articles I've read, but not really sure which meter is best, even after reading the Ford Muscle Mag's compao article. The carb is off, there are a couple of spots that it hesitates then comes on strong and is running rich enough to make the house smell any time I leave to take a drive. (that's what Crystal tells me )
  19. This is something I've not gotten around to, but would like to have a name to refer to her as... I've though about Mouse in Japanese (nezumi), which would be a refrence to the small block 'mouse' motor in the car...
  20. HAD to go for a quick spin today, even though it was sprinkling and I don't have my wipers on yet... Anyway, at a stoplight and was looking at the speedo sensor wire and noticed that it ran along with all the rest of the wire harness to the fuse block, and then back to the connection to the sensor. Then it dawned on me, IT PROBABLY STOPS WORKING WHEN THE FAN KICKS IN AT TEMP! So when I got home I re-routed, bypassing all the main harness wires and still no go, so I pulled out the speedo and tried having the sensor wire away from all the other wires behind the dash and BINGO! I havn't figured out where I'm goint to finish routing the wire but at least I know what the problem was. I guess any interferance is too much!
  21. That's what I'm thinking. OR maybe something else is kicking IN and causing enough interferance in the signal to stop it from getting through which is apparently what some others have had issues with. Other circuits getting in the way of the 'fragile' signal. I can't think of anything that isn't already constant that is running along the signal wire under the dash, I may re-route to test... BAH!!!
  22. I'm interested in this as well, but we'll have to get some other guy's that are working on this to chime in. It was my original plan but ended up going SBC. I'd suggest searching for other posts, there aren't many but maybe 3 or 4 guys working on this. None of them have been posting updates that I've seen. Maybe PM or email the other guy's you find doign the swap and see if you guys can get some information flowing on this.
  23. If you do the cap, do the full cap. My car had the half on it when I got it and I didn't like it. With the full cap, most people ask if I had it recovered or if it's new. I pulled my dash out of the car which made it super easy to install, it's been about 3 years since I've done it and there are no spots that have come unglued yet, but it has not really sat in the sun too much either.
