  1. I am running 215's all around and i am pretty sure there is another 1/5" on either side clearence w/ no problems. I have the same suspension set up but not sure about my wheel offset. I too am running spacers. The car is sans motor right now so i could be off, but I am sure you will be ok. They should be almost exactly the same WIDTH, will be about 11mm taller per side or 22 mm taller total, so almost an inch taller.
  2. So looks like 900 bucks for the "upgraded" vortec's, intake setup and gaskets. Will mull it over.... $515 Ebay new Vortec's ~$200 Performer Intake Surely I could get set of springs an the heads modified for less than 200?
  3. So what cam are you using in your truck? I read this 'article' http://www.2quicknovas.com/vortecheads.html and basically this guy says you can run Trickflow's for the same over all price as these vortecs. He was saying that the stock vortec valve springs are too weak to rev or use any cam bigger than .400 lift and eventhough the intake gaskets and intakes seal better, they are expensive, and the rockers are expensive if you upgrade and blah blah blah. SO, if i run a mild cam (dunno what spec) can I run these heads stock? I want to bolt them on to my shortblock and go. I am ok w/ buying a new intake as I really have no other parts anyway. I want about 300 hp and and good low end. That is all i need (for now) and untill I can afford to upgrade my rearend and trans, that is all the car will handle. I can "buy it now" a complete set on ebay for $515 shipped, I just called the local chevy dealer and they wanted $383 each! OUCH. What do you all think? Again, the heads that came on the long block i bought ended up being weiners, 1.72/1.5's. Useless.
  4. UPDATE: Took my block and rotating assy to the shop today, said he will let me know about grinding the crank and all that by Tuesday. The heads that came with the block were 1.74's, so looks like I will be looking for some vortec heads. The guy at the machine shop said he liked them better than the aluminums he had on he sprint car. So anyway, will see how it goes. Have any of you uesed the Vortech heads with the older style intakes???
  5. I agree w/ SHO-Z, I had a bent cart in the front of my Z and it kept BOTH sides from moving up or down.
  6. Very Cool! You can keep your z at my house MAYBE
  7. Do you have a link or a copy of that article, sounds like a good read.
  8. Price, functionality, looks all issues. Would be cool if you had some variations on the std gnose. I am interested though.
  9. HERE HERE The DECIDED to do something that was not in their best interest. If they don't weigh the consiquences, then.... they pay.
  10. Now that there are actually some adds on there, I love it. Especially the ones with pics, alot easier to navigate and sort through what you are looking for, IF everyone posts where they are supposed to. There is now a WTB section!
  11. So they don't rust while the car is just sittin.
  12. What car do you have? If you are making sub frame connectors you can built them just about any way you want. I made mine like pete paraska's but I wanted my floors to be flush on top, So i might have problems draging here and there. But you could easily build some that pop up a bit into the floor or are just made of 1x3 instead of 2x3 tubing. It really isn't that difficult if you have a chopsaw and a welder. Take lots of measurments, mock up some cardboard even, take your time, and eventually an idea of what you want will come to mind.
  13. OK, the block is torn apart and everthing looks decent. Motor had some pretty serious miles on it but none of the bearings were torn or gouged. Some showed quite a bit of brass but that is it. I am wanting to get a feel for the work I should have done in the machine shop so I am not standing there for an hour filling out his work sheet. Is it worth it to balance is the power is under 300hp? Do I let him tell me whether the crank needs turned or polished? What should I expect to pay to have the heads redone completely vs just a valve job and new seals / stuff like that. Or should I bother and just get the Vortecs? I trust the guy I am taking to, have worked with him before as have others here at work. BUT it has been a while, and I am a bit rusty. I want everything done right, but I don't want to have any un-nessesary work done. This is phase I Mild SB so anyone have some insight? Still haven't gotten my perf SBC book, hopefully today! This might answer some of my questions. Sorry if this is too long.
  14. That is pretty cool, what did you use?
  15. Comments please? Looks like this guy/company makes lots of exhaust headers. If I can get a deal, i think they look pretty good. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33631&item=2466482979
  16. Just thought I would let you know it gave sql syntax errors when you type ( ' ) in the description feild. Example: The word DON'T will return this error. Looks great ALSO, is it ok to post Wanted to Buy adds there too?
  17. Thanks Jbeech! That means alot. I know how easy it is to type something up, no worries, good luck on your engine! Mine is coming apart slowly, but everything looks ok!
  18. Wow, thanks for the tips. Man, this 9' table is HUGE! Glad we had the 'unusable' room for it Will get started on it maybe tonight!
  19. Any of you all put one of these together? I aquired one this weekend, it is pretty nice but needs to be cleaned up and assembled. What type of putty have you all used to seal the joints and cover any minor scratches in the slates?
  20. All i can say is that those are some GROWING pains that atleast I have been through, and I am sure many others here, keep your chin up BRO. EDIT ADDED Would have been "funny" if they dumped the truck off by your school and you saw it there on your way to class Happend to a buddy of mine, his 94 cobra stolen, was at his brothers apt. On the way in to work, they spot it next DOOR! Stripped. At least they found it.
  21. The line is isolated from contact with other metals. I am only running a supply line, carb, and only thinking of a mechanical mishap that severed the line. I guess I will just get the oil pressure swtich and if there is a problem, kill the motor.
  22. Wouldn't let you work at school? Or it wouldn't make it to school. Glad you found the problem. Usually not a big deal on your hot rod but on your daily driver, stuff like that is stressful.
  23. Jack up the front end, lock the steering wheel and if the wheels jiggle, somthin ain't right, maybe they are ok for going straight but the centrifical forces or what ever stress the bearing enough to make her shake.
  24. Should have typed out 100. Could have said opps typo, or was off by a decimal place. Pretty good deal!
