  1. i heard that in japan you have to get your car inspected everyyear, not just smogged, they can take you off the road, for body damage, smog, aftermarket, and a bunch of other nit picky things that you either have to fix or junk your ride. i know two people in japan that have to rebuild their cars from the suspension on up back to oem every year to pass that inspection, my buddy rolls a s14 out there with all kinds of boost and squeeze, and in the corner of his room is almost a whole car in boxes, and he has taken it apart and put it back together again at least five times, hey its just like anywhere, you have to find a way to do what you really want to do even if the odds are against you, if you have the heart to do it, you can do it.
  2. ive never had a turbo car before, i would love to get a ride in one of those turbo six cars, and the surge out of a corner must be bad ass, i love whipping my car around turns, dont do it too much but when i do.
  3. i love those 700r4s, nice low first gear in those things, and when they are built up, oh man the joy, i have a 87 firebird with the 305 with a vette servoed 700r4 and a slightly higher stall in it, man this barge will fishtail and smoke posi for almost half a block by just hitting it wot from a stop, and get fistail second if i stomp on it from a roll, some of the only joys i get from that car at all, since i lose every race i try to engage in in that thing.

    4.6 vs 5.0

ditto, i like the 5.0 cars, not fast enough for me, but they do rev up quick and make nice power, and they are very comfortable, especially the drop tops with the booming systems in them, with flowmasters of course, man those things are fun cars, they whip the silliest doughnuts ever, almost as good as my firebird
  5. im in love with those first gen rx7's, this summer i might pick up my buddies gsl-se( is there any other?) if the price is right, dont think ill do much to it, but you know how that be....
  6. i dont think its true, if that were the case why do top fuelers not run anything except a shell of a muffler looking type thing staright out the headers?
  7. "no no, youve got a heavy foot, you'll blow yourself to pieces"
  8. yeah i know, i have a 305 firebird and it doesnt seem to like 5k even, but on the other hand ive seen tpi 350 camaros run 13's with the tpi mildly modified shifting at 5600-right around where i like to shift, im not going to buy a tpis miniram, it costs too much. but yeah i can see that it may be restrictive, i may hold off on swapping it on for a while, until i can talk to more iroc owners that have got them to flow at least in the 5-6k range, which i have seen done and 300hp by 5500 kicks ass on the street.
  9. alright forget it, im gonna spin it(the bar right back the way i had to before), checked my halfshafts after years of punking them out constantly and dumping on them, and every ujoint is holding great, i havent had driveline vibration in three years of hard driving, i just didnt want to drop it again, but oh well here she goes.
  10. i dont know much about rotaries, but i do have a side project that ill probably get finished in the summertime that involves a rotary and a funny yellow car, to get 200 you have to do some port work, and in the end doing that versus dropping a turbo2 rotary is close, im looking at 150-175 with minor work and i think im overestimating that figure as well, i think the thing with rotaries without boost and a lot of money is putting it in the right chassis, 150hp and 1700lbs is gonna be a blast.
  11. you can also change out the motor mounts only, which will make it really drivable, and sway bar should not interfere with the crank pulley. sounds like this was a dragster with no front sway bar and all. i would also check the trans mount and the diff mount to see if those are solid as well, it would be nice to have the mounts all the same compound so it doesnt shake the mounts to death. depends on what customer wants and how much he wants to spend. shifting the motor back will complicate a lot of things , driveshaft, trans mount, fuel pump, balancer circumfrence, header clearances, youll open up a can of worms, but if the customer wants that the customer is ALWAYS right.
  12. and you gonna need it, and you gonna need more than me.....
  13. i think i read it in another post or yours somewherre, if you make it out here id love to check out your car and hang out. as for competition, i think if you went with intercooler (you have a blow off valve right) car should be fast as heck, im not sure who your comp would be because a lot of people cant drive well enough to use what their car has the potential for in the first place, ive suprised myself a couple times that i could beat cars that look way better on paper than mine, but you know how it be, you gotta really go for it, and if they get you they get you, but the second time they better psych up cause im leaving the clutch at home!!!
  14. i have a 1972 240z with that 327/350/m21 that wont quit, but the mounts do from some of this this and this and a little of to make em all ill get it down. i would go 280z but smog here dont allow for it too easily. i could not see why it would be different, but in my case it is, and everything looks right and holds pretty solid, hey stony2- youre HYDRA huh.
  15. ok im getting scared now, heres what i got i have a mustache bar from a r200 280z, originally had an r200 with that mustache bar but it was in the r180 slightly forward position, when i reversed the bar like jtr showed me, it started this chain reaction that ended up in me needing about 2.25 inches more driveshaft? it doesnt make any sense to me either.
  16. hey thats a black pearl v8 zcar!!! i used to have a 78 just like that, but it was so plagued with rust i had to off it, man if i could only find another one, man those 78 cars ride so dang nice.

    4.6 vs 5.0

depends on money and mouthpiece. the 4.6 can be very potent, but for my ill take 5.0 pushrod over it any day of the week, it has thirty years of hot rod history behind it. im sure those more educated in ford will chime in, thats my two cents on that.
  18. you know i would go lt1 over it in a heartbeat, but my 327 has proved to be a very loyal friend to me, and that tell me he's more than earned his keep in the engine bay in the bay area. ive heard you have to go roller cam to have the knock sensor not tweak out on you and throw a code? anyways im just gonna do a couple mild tweaks and convert it over, right now im daily driven a tpi car and i really do like it, the salt and pepper shaker wot sound would sound even better with no cats.....
  19. i like my pizza to have a heavy subframe on it.
  20. when you go to kragens, wear pants with long pockets.
  21. i couldnt get it to bolt in to the mustache bar, i finally unbolted it, and then i bolted it to the mustache bar, then did the jack dance to it until i could seat it on the bar, then the rest was ok, took me about two hours, lots of screaming, and lots of scars.
  22. ok heres what happened, when i reversed the mustache bar, i also had to reverse the direction of the diff insulator (small side towards rear wide side towards front)( i did use the r200 later xmember, its thicker and i seam welded the crap out of it) to move the crossmember about an inch and a half forward so it would line up with the bolt holes and hold up the control arm fronts, then went to bolt up the flange, i pulled on the driveshaft and the yoke slipped out, i was pissed. but i figure its time for new ujoints and the money spend now is good insurance, and im a cheap ass. it looks like an inch and a half difference, ill get under there tommorow morning and take the measurement to be sure, and then im running the quarter and getting some mo fo'ing et's out this son b**tch.
  23. what i meant was that 85-86 will bolt straight up, but with later style you have to modify those four middle bolt holes for it to work, not worth, just grab up on an 85-86, or maybe just the lower manifold, i just gotta find out whether or not the lowers will bolt to the upper intake plenum on 87-up, that way i would just need to find the bottom baseplate. i like the looks of tpi more than anything, once i found you can get around 300-325 very drivable hp out of it, i was sold, plus you can always spray it.
  24. you have relatives in the bay area dont you? next time you visit shoot me a line i'll run em with you, lets go
